Morning Nerdy and Early Birds. Tomorrow is our Fifth Annual Fiesta Latina and I’ve got a “to do” list a mile long. Woke up to the terrific news that Alycee and Terri are coming to the Fiesta!! What a treat! Weather outlook is fair and sunny and our regional Hillary Campaign organizer is still waiting to hear whether a high level Hillary surrogate will join us. If we get good photos from the event can someone tell me how to post them?

There are those in the GOP who continue to say that they prefer Trump over Hillary Clinton. At this point, the one thing on which they are hanging their hat is their assumption that Trump will nominate individuals to the Supreme Court that are *acceptable* to them. They are basing this on a list that was generated, even before the GOP convention, that was approved by members of the GOP “establishment”. This list was their justification that it was okay to endorse/support Trump.

But since then, Trump has put people in leadership roles in his campaign who have ties to the Kremlin/Russia and white nationalists organizations. This is where Trump goes to for guidance and validation. These are the people who are his strategists; his speech writers. These are the people who Trump looks to for input and approval in developing his policies. These are the people who are allowing Trump to be Trump.

Does the GOP truly believe that this “approved” list of potential SCOTUS nominees is still intact? He no longer seems to care what the “establishment” thinks. He no longer needs their endorsement or support because this is now *HIS* party. Given the staff, surrogates, consultants and strategists who are now in Trump’s inner circle, there should be questions as to who is NOW on this list; and assuming that this list has changed or is changing, to whom would these potential nominees be *acceptable*?. He is elusive when it comes to the specifics about his policies, his taxes, and his associates/associations. Even his campaign staff and his surrogates don’t know from day to day (minute to minute even) what he will do or say; what pivot he will make. These should be red flags as to what he would REALLY do if he is elected.

I was slightly worried about watching (turned out to be listening – they lied about her being in the studio, it was on the phone) Hillary this am on MorningJoke. Silly me – she held her own and more. Got in everything she needed to say about Trump, the Clinton Foundation and her years of public service.

I would think the “Trump Team” will now be working out how they can refuse to debate without appearing to be 100% wimps

Joe & Mika spent the next two days doing nothing but tut tut about the Clinton Foundation – presumably to stop trump discussing further – but when Hillary agreed to call in to his show it seems they swapped sides again.

Donald Trump’s ‘Apprentices’ Had to Agree to Go Nude
To play in The Donald’s corporate Hunger Games, contestants agreed to surrender control over their lives and images to his producers.

Appearing on The Apprentice with Donald Trump required agreeing to a series of odd and invasive demands regarding sex, nudity, and food consumption. According to a copy of an NBC contract reviewed by The Daily Beast, contestants had to agree to be filmed, “whether I am clothed, partially clothed or naked, whether I am aware or unaware of such videotaping, filming or recording.”

It gets WAY worse!! Read the article at the link. SIck

Good morning TOD! Thanks for the info yesterday regarding the Times piece on the O love story and the info on the celebration of the national parks. Really enjoyed both.

Hillary has a new ad out to go with her theme from yesterday.

It is not as harsh as the web video but gets the message across. It will run in four swing states. I hope along with her speech this is a defining moment in the campaign.

On the speech, this is one of the few times when I found it worthwhile to read it in addition to listening to it. It is even more powerful in writing. The full transcript is here:

Hope that everyone has a great day!

      • 80 FoxfireTX
        August 26, 2016 at 11:37 am

It did, AMK, but the truth often is harsh. The voter group she is aiming for is great at denying its own bigotry which is why it still exists in this country in such great numbers and institutionally. And believe me, they don’t like harsh which is why they so put off by Trump despite being Republicans forever.

UN blames UK politicians for Brexit hate crime spike.

“Divisive” and “anti-immigrant” rhetoric by UK politicians during the EU referendum helped to fuel a spike in race hate crimes in the weeks before and after the vote, a UN body has said.

It said prominent political figures had “failed to condemn” racist abuse and created prejudices during the campaign.

The report expressed concerns at the negative portrayal of immigrants in the UK and a rise of racist online abuse.

Some 3,198 hate crimes were reported from 16-30 June – a 42% rise on 2015.

The EU referendum was held on 23 June – when the UK voted to leave the European Union.

Abuse peaked on 25 June – the day after the result was announced – when 289 hate crimes and incidents were reported across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

A further 3,001 reports of hate crimes were made to police between 1 and 14 July – equivalent to more than 200 every day.

France’s highest administrative court has suspended a ban on full-body “burkini” swimsuits that was imposed in a town on the Mediterranean coast.

The ban in Villeneuve-Loubet “seriously and clearly illegally breached fundamental freedoms to come and go, freedom of beliefs and individual freedom”, it found.

The ruling could set a precedent for up to 30 other towns that imposed bans.

The court will make a final decision on the legality of the bans later.

Correspondents in France say the court’s decision means that all the bans on burkinis are likely now to be overturned but one mayor in Corsica has already vowed to keep the ban in place on his town beach.

A human rights group, the Human Rights League (LDH), and an anti-Islamophobia association (CCIF), brought the ban in Villeneuve-Loubet to the court’s attention.

Patrice Spinosi, a lawyer for the LDH, said outside court that people who had been fined could claim their money back.

Hungarians return awards over ‘racist’ journalist.

Prize-winning Hungarian mathematicians, artists, philosophers and religious leaders have been handing back their state honours as a protest against a government decision to give a controversial journalist a medal.

Journalist and activist Zsolt Bayer is best known for his xenophobic views and close ties to the ruling party of Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

In a matter of days around 80 leading Hungarian intellectuals have declared that they want nothing to do with Mr Bayer, who was recently awarded the Knight’s Cross, the country’s third highest state medal.

A petition calling for him to be stripped of the award has garnered more than 4,000 signatures.

“Donald Trump is a flake and a fraud”

…it is with a certain degree of genuine sympathy that I say what has to be said: Your candidate is a flake. A fraud. A bag of air. A con man. A joke.

I understand the frustration that made the Republican base such fertile ground for the Trump phenomenon to flourish. The GOP leadership spent the entire Obama administration making promises it knew it could not keep — on immigration, the economy, fighting terrorism, repealing Obamacare and so on. This was good short-term politics, especially in the 2010 and 2014 midterm elections, but many voters became disillusioned with politics and politicians. Enter Trump, a non-politician with zero scruples, who quickly identified which buttons to push — and pushed them like crazy.

1.) Spicer says Hillary Clinton’s speech on Trump’s racism Thursday was a sign of desperation — but he can’t refute a single point in it.

2.) Spicer won’t defend Trump’s assertion that Hillary Clinton is a “bigot.”

3.) Spicer has no explanation for why no prominent Republicans have rushed to defend Trump against accusations of racism.

The atoll islands, an area that includes where this president is protecting, under the 1906 antiquities act…

Was highly radiated in the 1950s. The US exploded several nuclear weapons there. As they were testing these weapons in the area.

The islands were inhabited thirty years later… As radioactivity levels dropped to a safe level.
Recently, however, people on one of the islands had to evacuate due to radioactive poisoning.
They kept testing, came up negative… Abd yet people kept getting radioactive poisoning.
Come to find out, cessium, a radioactive isotope, was hidden in the coconuts.
All these years later, and people still getting sick from those bombs. 👎👎👎

I support the president in protecting this area, as well as others.👊

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will campaign with Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine in September at separate events in Pennsylvania and Ohio, the Democratic nominee’s campaign announced Friday.

Biden will appear with the Democratic ticket next Thursday at events in the Mahoning Valley and the Cleveland area, having previously campaigned with Clinton last week in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

The event with Obama comes nearly two weeks later, on Sept. 13 in Philadelphia, urging people in the battleground state to register to vote ahead of the Oct. 11 deadline. Obama previously appeared with Clinton last month in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Civilians and rebel fighters have begun leaving the Syrian town of Darayya after a deal was reached ending a four-year government siege.

The first buses left the town, near the capital Damascus, accompanied by ambulances and Red Crescent vehicles.

But the UN has expressed concern over the plan, saying it is essential that those leaving do so voluntarily.

The Syrian army encircled Darayya in 2012 and just one aid delivery has reached the town since then.

The first bus to emerge from the town carried mostly children, women and elderly people, AFP news agency reports.

Some 700 armed men and 4,000 civilians will be evacuated as part of the agreement, according to Syrian state media.

  55. August 26, 2016 at 1:56 pm

Between 2003 and 2005, the George W. Bush White House “lost” around 5 million emails, including messages related to the firing of federal prosecutors who didn’t adhere to Bush’s conservative agenda…most from right around the period that it was crafting a scaffolding of lies to sell what turned out to be the greatest American foreign policy debacle in a generation: the Iraq War.

Colin Powell—Bush’s secretary of state … also used a personal email account while at the State Department. He didn’t even bother to set up his own home server but chose the eminently hackable public email giant AOL. And he was hacked, by an Eastern European criminal …

Donald Trump apparently just destroys sensitive emails…

Mitt Romney, deleted his entire email correspondence during his four years as governor of Massachusetts, so no records exist from 2002 to 2006.

But, today, it is only Clinton’s private server system that has sparked federal and congressional investigations… by some of the very men whose email hygiene habits are no better…

Well, we are already approaching the meme “Hillary only won because Trump is such a terrible candidate”, which we also heard about Mitt Romney in 2012. Makes me wonder how many election cycles it is going to take for the GOP to wake up and realize their party is completely out of step with the American people. The vast majority of Americans, including Republicans, want common sense gun control. The vast majority of Americans, including Republicans, do not want Social Security benefits cut or privatized. The vast majority of Americans, including Republicans, do not want to see the VA privatized. The vast majority of Americans, including Republicans, do not want to see marriage equality reversed. The vast majority of Americans, including Republicans, are in favor of immigration reform including a path to citizenship. The vast majority of Americans, including Republicans, want at least a $10 minimum wage hike. On issue after issue, the party is out of step with the country. They can keep telling themselves that their primary electorate selects lousy candidates and they do not have a broad tent but when are they going to recognize the party overall is not with the American people circa 2016? Until they recognize this fact, they will continue to lose the presidency regardless of the candidates.
