Break On Through (To the Other Side): Part II
    by D.R. Tucker
    August 21, 2016 3:30 PM

Are the Republicans who are declaring that they’re “with her” quietly admitting an inconvenient truth about the man who was declared victorious over Al Gore sixteen years ago?

Notice the common thread that runs through the words of pro-Clinton Republicans: they’ve declared that GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump is “completely unqualified” for the White House, and has “undermined the character of the nation.” Could it be that on a very subtle psychological level, these Republicans are acknowledging that the last member of their party to reside at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue was indeed an epic screw-up, and that the bigoted billionaire would equal, if not surpass, Dubya in his dimwittedness?

    early warning system.

For weeks, Donald Trump has watched his poll standing in battleground states plummet, from Pennsylvania, where his strength among Rust Belt families was supposed to turn a blue state competitive, to North Carolina, where Democrats had been making inroads in recent elections, to the ultimate battleground of them all: Florida.

Trump’s poll numbers remain dire, but he can point to at least one ray of hope for a turnaround: Republicans have continued gaining ground in recent months in voter registration in Florida, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Iowa, while the late surge in Democratic registrations relative to Republican registrations that occurred in battleground states the final months of the 2012 election had not materialized in numbers released in early August.

“The atmospherics of voter registration trends in those states do not point to a strong Democratic year, so that’s one negative the Trump campaign does not have to deal with at this point,” said Louisiana pollster John Couvillon, who added that spikes in registration can add a point or two to a candidate’s vote share in a close race. “The voter registration data I’m seeing does not support the idea of a surge in Democratic voter enthusiasm.”

Clinton remains comfortably ahead by an average of six points in the Real Clear Politics average of national polls, and encouraging registration trends alone will be insufficient to carry Trump in must-win states like Pennsylvania, where he trails by an average of nine points in recent polls. Meanwhile, Republicans have been losing ground in Hispanic-heavy Western battlegrounds of Colorado, Arizona, and Nevada, where Democrats have boosted their voter registration standing in recent months.

What is the time period that the article refers to? For instance in my county, from Feb 1st to mid-May we had 8,000 new voter registrations, and 10,000 + re-registrations in a county with a population of 260,000. This was huge for our registrar. If this article is counting from June 1st (our primary was June 7th), and if this type of primary registration was occuring across the country, then there may not be a big spike since so many people registered for the primary.

Now I’m not saying we can totally disregard this article and sit on our laurels. I’m just saying, don’t panic when you read something like this, and be sure to still keep doing the footwork of registering people, telling them to check their registration, their mailing address, etc.

Remember the MSM, including the Internet, needs to have stories to keep us interested in them, so they have a tendency to blow every little thing out of proportion.

JS talked over ER when he was ticking off all the offensive things DT said about AA’s and other minorities. I think JS is afraid of DT and will bring up some unpleasant things that could hurt him financially.

A very Presidential issue the media is discussing today. What I do find amazing is the religious side of the GOP accepting that for a GOPer
        multi marriages are good
        adultery is good
disappearing from your job to chase a woman is good

But Hillary standing by her man – very very bad.

They are 2 faced bigots in so many ways. I would care less about any of these issues, but these folks about face to suit. What on earth is Mike Pence doing being mixed up with this lot.

        • 30 jacquelineoboomer
          August 22, 2016 at 11:01 am

Mike Pence is just as guilty as they are – I try not to think about any of them, but I think I recall Pence hates gays. And, yes, Trump actually fits right in with the other GOP (of which he is not a member, unless it benefits his self-aggrandizement du jour). Newt and so many others went after Bill Clinton, until their own skeletons came out of their Haloweenish-closets. And we recall hearing about all the RWNJs, anti-gay, who are later brought up on charges of going after under-age boys and the like. I’m with you on not caring about how any of them live their lives (other than the crime stuff), but for the hypocrisy in the GOP that you highlighted. Ugh. Creepiest people I’ve ever seen in my life. Glad I don’t know any of them personally, aren’t you?

They are repulsive jacqueline. When Mark Sanford was elected to congress after leaving his wife and 4 boys to chase his exotic lady friend – the GOP lost all sense of value and values. Could not live with oneself after voting for such people.

OMG, 99. That right there speaks volumes about the hypocrisy of the RW. I have said since all that broke that if everything about the story were exactly the same except a D after the name, he wouldn’t even have survived serving his term as governor and then definitely wouldn’t have been elected to Congress! All of the media would have “beat” the story to death and I bet within 2-3 weeks, he would have had to resign. Yet another perfect example of IOKIYAR!!!!đŸ˜±đŸ˜±đŸ˜±

WANT TO HELP THE CLINTON/KAINE CAMPAIGN?

Here is one of those ways you can do it. Host a debate viewing party at your home. Invite the neighbors, friends and anyone who may be undecided about Hillary.

Have a few voter registration forms handy (they are availale at most libraries and POs). And if you have internet access you can ask everyone to verify their voter registration and mailing address by going to http://www.usa.gov/register-to-vote. They can even register online at that site if they wish, or if you run out of forms.

Also go to voteriders.org/voter-id-info-cards and print out the pocket card for your state. It will list the documents each voter must bring to the polls on election day so they can vote. Have several on hand so people can take one home with them.

        August 22, 2016 at 11:28 am

Very much so. Whatever we think of him, many like and respect him. AND it apparently is true that the memo referred to was written at a time when she had been using the private server for more than a year. What I have never understood about her inability to handle this is why she chose Powell and Rice rather than the Bush/Cheney WH that kept their emails on the RNC server and deleted something like 5 million. So going to miss PBO and his no drama administration.

“So going to miss PBO and his no drama administration.”

      • 58 Don
        August 22, 2016 at 11:31 am

Yep, some might say why go after the only black guy in the Bush Administration. Me personally, I’d go after everyone that used private email to conduct government business. I don’t think that Powell was the only one, as a matter of fact I think I read somewhere that both Dems and Repubs used private email to conduct government business. Now don’t get me wrong I think Hillary will make a good President, but something is always going on with the Clintons. Trouble seems to always find the Clintons, maybe I’m wrong and my perception of things is off.

        • August 22, 2016 at 11:38 am

            August 22, 2016 at 2:41 pm

I am a diehard Obama supporter but I am looking forward to Hillary Clinton as president. So many things that have been advanced will keep going forward and for that I am very grateful. She could have distanced herself from the President as so many have but she didn’t. We need to have her back just as we have the President’s, in my opinion, because it will help us all in the end.

        • August 22, 2016 at 11:42 am

Whatever the circumstances, Powell wasn’t going to go along and get boxed in on this so HRC just caused another needless headline and threw a bone to the RWNJs. Unforced error. They do have a way of confounding the drama at times. They’ve gotten better but they need to sharpen even more. I miss PBO already. He and his team are a real tight machine. Pure achievement. No drama.

The GOP are all a bunch of crooks and you’re absolutely right about W and Rove being the best example of destroying emails. But that’s not how the press rolls.

      • August 22, 2016 at 11:39 am

On this one meta, I have to disagree.

I think it was brilliant because it has enabled many to re-focus on Colin Powell’s absolutely central role in enabling GWB and Cheney to launch their criminal war on Iraq and effective occupation of the ME.

That Sec Powell endorsed PBO was nice but it never distracted me from the fact that should America ever find the moral backbone to launch a Tribunal on the Iraq War, Sec Powell would be imprisoned, at best, for whatever remains of his sorry ass life.

Millions upon Millions of innocent people have suffered and continue to suffer because of the War he enabled.

She used one wrong phrase in saying she had discussed it with him (which is now proven to have happened). One small wrong choice of words and she’s vilified. GOP & Trump’s lies – no big deal. Sigh.

        • August 22, 2016 at 12:06 pm

I think the issue is that it was more than a discussion. She’s reportedly said he advised her to do so. That’s why I think it’s a mistake.

          • 73 57andfemale
            August 22, 2016 at 12:08 pm

“advised” was a wrong word. But she gets zero slack on anything. Especially since I’m now hearing that the private server was already in use? Totally inexcusable error. Of course, the pattern at the time was a private email server: Powell, Rice.

      • 74 sjterrid
        August 22, 2016 at 2:00 pm

It wasn’t HRC’s fault. This information was leaked, probably republicans, from when Congress asked the FBI for Hillary’s testimony to them.

    what the frack???

Americans for Responsible Solutions, the anti-gun violence PAC founded by former congresswoman Gabby Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, on Monday endorsed two Republican senators for their 2013 vote following the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre.

“In the wake of the tragedy at Sandy Hook, Republican Sens. Pat Toomey and Mark Kirk broke from the gun lobby and supported a bill to help prevent felons, domestic abusers and the dangerously mentally ill from obtaining firearms at gun shows and online,” Giffords and Kelly wrote in a CNN op-ed. “This week, they are earning our organization’s endorsement.”

    /

The group is also endorsing Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), who is running significantly ahead of Republican challenger Darryl Glenn in the polls, while acknowledging that their endorsement of the two Republican senators was not an easy decision to make.

“In Pennsylvania, Katie McGinty is a passionate advocate for gun violence prevention and would be a consistent vote for life-saving gun safety laws in the Senate,” they wrote. “Likewise, Tammy Duckworth of Illinois is not only a decorated veteran and an American hero, but has been a champion for commonsense gun laws in the House. We have no doubt she would continue to be a leader on gun safety in the Senate.”

Absolutely. Kirk couldn’t give a damn about gun violence, just a way to look “moderate”. It’s his M.O. to be a first-class McConnell ass-kissing jerk 95% of the time, and fool Illinois voters. There is absolutely NO reason for Giffords’ group to endorse ANY GOP. I’m very upset about this. Especially with an excellent Dem like Tammy Duckworth.

I wrote an email to them on their site stating that I would not be giving the money I had intended to give them as I wasn’t sure if they were after success anymore knowing how obstructionist the GOP is. I also mentioned how important it was to have a Democratic Senate majority and what they were doing was undermining that.

I am furious and deeply disappointed in their decision. It’s another case of Democrats shooting themselves in the foot. #NOTAGAIN

Well there are now 15,000 additional emails that the FBI recovered and the judge has ordered the State Department to turn over to Judicial Watch. This is going to go on until the election and I suspect afterwards. What I will never understand is why Hillary did not anticipate this would be a problem, and check with the appropriate personnel in the Obama administration before making this decision. Is this scrutiny unfair? Of course. But given the history with the Clintons you would think she would have been more scrupulous about following every rule rather than trying to get around them. PBO always understood he had to be virtually flawless. Hillary should have realized the same, and why she never gets this is beyond me. Although her errors are nothing compared to Trump’s shenanigans, it provides his campaign and the media with the fodder they need to attempt to make coverage more “balanced”. While I remain confident she will win this battle, I do not expect the blowout it might have been with a candidate less embroiled in various conflicts.
