    Good Morning TOD

Some of the stories they tell about how they came to work for the president could be rejected plot lines from an early episode of “The West Wing.” But together they see their durability as a tribute to how Obama inspires both loyalty and sacrifice from staff in a field where burnout is the norm, and where many people accept political appointments with an eye toward self-promotion and long-term financial benefit.

As one lifer put it: “We’re not political people. We’re Obama people.”

      August 16, 2016 at 11:31 am

Many of us here have long realized PBO is not a ‘politician’ (tho ‘they’ keep trying to pigeonhole him), he is a LEADER, a statesman, a man of profound and genuine dignity, who stands for ALL people, stands for the earth in whom all life as we know it springs from, and he is articulate in his awareness. Most people have only ever known ‘politicians’ to be focussed on everything except what PBO has focussed on, and has brought the entire world to focus on. Finally. As such as man, and in doing so, he has threatened the fact that ‘their’ view, ‘their’ values, ‘their’ motives, have brought all life forms into an unprecedented brink of extinction. Well, the earth will survive, Gaia has already begun her necessary process of evicting us, birds, snails, worms, all creatures who belong to the earth and are of the earth, will survive us, will rebuild, as they are from the Creator, it is their ‘job’, they know and do not question or violate, or create imbalance. Once we are gone for good, earth has many millions of years left, to whisper the name: Obama. 🌏🙏☯♌🌏

      August 16, 2016 at 4:00 pm

All of this speaks to the character of the man at the top. Our PBO is the real deal and so many people saw it long ago and went to the wall for him because it also meant going to the wall for the country. These wonderful public servants, the “Obama people” make up one of he many legacies of our president. during the last London trip with the Q and A with the students, one asked what PBO considered to be his greatest gifts and the president answered is one is his ability to see talent in others and to foster it.
What we have had in the reality Obama administration is way better than the fantasy West Wing. So thankful that I was WOKE during all of his time as president.
I have prayed for all of these staffers that surround the president just as I have prayed for him and his family; that they would be safe, that they would not be hurt by the sacrifices that they have made (personal life, etc), and that after their time in the White House is over that they find careers worthy of their talents and dedication. Like our PBO, they are running out the tape and leaving it all on the floor.

No idea, because we never had to worry about these briefings until Trump came along. The briefers will keep a close lid on whatever is discussed, so either they all have to take an oath to keep their fat ugly mouths shut, or Christie and the other turd will have to sit in the outer room, eating mints.

Read somewhere that PBO is the one who decides what the candidates can see, so I’m thinking it’ll be a blast of some patriotic music from YouTube. Or maybe Mr. Kahn will give them a briefing on the U.S. Constitution!

      • August 16, 2016 at 5:35 pm

Automatic voter registration hits an Illinois pothole
    08/16/16 11:20 AM
    By Steve Benen

In March 2015, Oregon became the first state in the nation to embrace automatic voter registration, California adopted the same idea soon after. This year, West Virginia, Vermont, and Connecticut joined the small-but-growing club.

The AVR road, however, is not without pitfalls. A bill passed in New Jersey, for example, only to be vetoed by Gov. Chris Christie (R). Late last week, as the Chicago Tribune reported, Illinois’ Republican governor also balked, at least for now.
Gov. Bruce Rauner vetoed a bill aimed at making voter registration automatic in Illinois, citing concerns about potential voting fraud and conflicts with federal law.

Poll: Trump only ahead by by 6 in Texas
    By Ben Kamisar

Hillary Clinton is within 6 points of Donald Trump in Texas, according to a new poll released Tuesday, as the Democratic presidential nominee continues to make inroads in traditionally red states.

Trump, the Republican nominee, has 44 percent support in the state to Clinton’s 38 percent, according to a survey by the liberal-leaning Public Policy Polling (PPP).

The Lone Star State has gone Republican in the last nine presidential elections.
The result is the latest in a string of poor poll numbers for Trump. Recent surveys have shown him down big in battleground states such as Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Virginia, and trailing by smaller margins in Ohio and Florida.

He also has been getting slimmer-than-expected leads in traditional GOP states such as Georgia, Arizona and Utah.

For years, the Jabara family says, their neighbor terrorized them.

He called them names — “dirty Arabs,” “filthy Lebanese,” they said.
He hurled racial epithets at those who came to work on their lawns, they alleged.
He ran Haifa Jabara over with his car and went to court for it.
And it all came to a head last week when the man, Stanley Vernon Majors, walked up to the front steps of the family home and shot and killed Khalid Jabara, police said.
“The frustration that we continue to see anti-Muslim, anti-Arab, xenophobic rhetoric and hate speech has unfortunately led up to a tragedy like this,” said the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Jabara Family Statement on the Murder of Khalid Jabara
      August 15, 2016
On Friday night, our world was shattered when our brother, Khalid Jabara, was murdered on the front porch of our family home. The perpetrator was not unknown to us—he is our neighbor—someone whom we continuously brought to law enforcement’s attention. He killed our brother while awaiting trial for running over our mother, resulting in a broken shoulder, collapsed lung, broken ankle, broken nose, head trauma, and fractured ribs amongst other injuries. Only 30 minutes prior to my brother’s shooting, Khalid called the police stating this man had a gun and that he was scared for what might happen. The police came and told him there was nothing to be done. Minutes later, the suspect murdered our brother with four shots.
My family lived in fear of this man and his hatred for years. Yet in May, not even one year after he ran over our mother and despite our repeated protests, he was released from jail with no conditions on his bond—no ankle monitor, no drug/alcohol testing, nothing.
This suspect had a history of bigotry against our family. He repeatedly attacked our ethnicity and perceived religion, making racist comments. He often called us “dirty Arabs,” “filthy Lebanese,” “Aye-rabs,” and “Mooslems”—a fact highlighted by the Tulsa Police Department who also heard these comments from the suspect. The suspect’s bigotry was not isolated to us alone. He made xenophobic comments about many in our community — “filthy Mexican” and the “n” word were all part of his hateful approach to anyone from a different background.
Today, in our pain, we are also keenly aware that this is not just another murder to be added to crime statistics. Our brother’s death could have been prevented. This man was a known danger. He intentionally tried to kill our mother less than one year ago when he ran her over with his car. Based on his racist comments towards us, he should have been charged with a hate crime then. He should not have been released without monitoring. Yet he was released and put back next door to us, the family he assaulted just months before. This is troubling at any time, but profoundly disturbing given the current climate of our country and the increase nationally in cases of hate crimes.
Our brother Khalid was just 37 years old and had his whole life ahead of him. He was a kind spirit, loving brother, uncle and son. Khalid’s heart was big. He cared for our entire family, our friends and people he didn’t even know. He created every Jabara family joke and filled our lives with love and laughter. All of that has been taken away from us by this hateful man and a system that failed to protect our community.
Press inquiries for the Jabara family may be sent to:

Alison–This is just horrific and I can only imagine the depth of agony the family is feeling. The politics that promote hatred and our appalling criminal justice system all failed this family. As a people, we have allowed this corruption and bigotry to fester by not standing up to it and fighting back.

Next, the emails, the FBI investigation turning over thing to Congress–I am SO over this CRAP! Will it EVER stop?!?! Was talking to a friend Friday and she shared what she said was a DIRECT quote from one of the R’s the day Comey was pulled in. I may not have it 100% correct, but she assured me she still remembered EXACTLY what they guy said. “We thought ‘This time we’ve got her’. Now, you’re telling me we don’t!” Also, can Congress use the FBI to go after a political opponent?!
