I was left on the previous post but for a good cause. I was listening to HRC’s and VP Biden’s speeches. HRC was good, forceful and to the point, with a fresh vigor in her tone. As for Joe Biden, what a smack down of the Donald! And in a way only Biden can do it, with sincerity, empathy for those listening, respect for their opinions but convincing words to show the demagogue that is the Donald.
“I’ve been thinking lately that I don’t mind the idea that Republicans would disagree with President Obama or Hillary Clinton on policy issues related to things like the size of government and the role of this country around the globe. Those are things that we can discuss. What is unacceptable are accusations like the one’s contained in that flier about “treason;” when opponents suggest that Democratic leaders aren’t patriotic and are accused of giving aid and comfort to the “enemy” (no matter how that is defined). That isn’t about political disagreement – it is about hatred being exploited by leaders in order to gain power.”
They thought that they didn’t need to vet Trump as long as he was going after President Obama. The fact that the speaker of the house and the majority leader of the senate aren’t running away from Trump is all you need to know about what they think about Trump.
The GOP does not VET anyone because they have the RW newstainers to carry water for them or so they thought. Look at $Palin, Clint Eastwood and his chair, Mitt Rmoney, and now DT, ALL losers.
This is the first gymnastic medal for a woman from the Netherlands; she had a flawless, original routine.
Simone, almost fell off the beam when she went 3rd; had a score in the 14’s.
Hernandez, had a strong, error free routine.
There were three inquiries, for Laurie and the women from France and Brazil, but they were all rejected.
It is so reassuring to come back to TOD and once again feel like an informed adult after spending all your waking hours, and some sleeping ones, babysitting and entertaining an almost three-year old. This is day one of our granddaughters week long annual solo vacation with us and we’re still working on the problem of keeping up with her inexhaustible energy. It seems that one thing remains constant no matter what circumstances keep us away–Donald Trump will always say something stupid and dangerous.
Our grandbabes are near twins jackie & they sure act the same way. Does she stand outside the bedroom around 6am & say “Are you awake yet grandpa” – repeat a little louder every 2 minutes.
Sounds good, so do make the most of it. All that running around your body’s been doing over the last few months deserves to be acknowledged. 😉 I trust you are getting great bikini weather.
It’s been raining a lot, on and off, here since Saturday. Right now I’m trying to decide if I should go get wet buying lumber to build shelves in the garage, or just phone the handyman who’s coming to do the job this afternoon and reschedule.
Sigh, I suppose I’ll go since I’ll have to eventually get the materials anyway.
– Take nothing for granted. We are the underdog until they call us the winner.
– If someone tells you their vote doesn’t matter – tell them it matters to the GOP. Why do you think they are trying so hard to prevent you from voting.
I hate this gun culture. I just got word that a friend died today. Her husband shot her and then shot himself. They were going thru a divorce. They have 4 children under the age of 15. Of course they had guns in the house. Needed them for protection right. I want to scream at the NRA how dear they take people lives in such low regard. Each life is precious. You can’t solve problems by shooting someone. Don’t the police know that by now. And all these killings. I am so sick of it all. Life is precious.
How incredibly tragic and sad.. it makes me want to scream too and cry…just like that 4 kids no longer have their parents. How can one possibly think that taking life is a solution to the unwinding of a marriage. Heavy sigh I’m so so sorry for your loss. {{{{{{mtmarilyn}}}}}
Thank you.Judith, Carolyn and purpleshoes. It is the children I worry the most about. But second I worry about my friends brother, in this last year he has gone thru a divorce lost his mother to cancer and the kids grandmother, lost his grandfather and now his sister. Theses loses were part of life we all go thru, not easy but part of life. This loss is beyond words. Have I mentioned how much I hate guns, and we have guns in our home.
So very sorry to hear this, Marilyn. We’re all angry and sick over what’s going on – what’s been going on. Sorry it hit so close to home, with the loss of your friend.
So sad for your friend & her family mtmarilyn. Family disputes are so impacted by guns. One of the major reductions in gun violence in Australia after new gun control laws was the reduction in suicide. So some comment sense could also have saved her husband’s life as well.
I’m so sorry, mtmarilyn, about your friend. I can’t imagine what effect this will have on their children for the rest of their lives. My thoughts and prayers for you, and your friend’s family.
{{{{`Marilyn}}}} So sorry to hear of your loss. For the life of me, I cannot understand the selfishness and hatred that lets a person leave four innocent children, whom they supposedly love, traumatized orphans. Prayers for the kids, family, and friends.
What horrific, shocking news. Cannot imagine knowing someone that this happened to, with children who will never be able to erase this trauma from their lives.
Just awful.
It astounds me that a lobby for gun manufacturers has such a stranglehold over the lives of all Americans.
We so need a Dem President and Congress/Senate just to restore sanity to this country.
So, so sorry to hear this, wish there was something I could do for you and your friend’s family. 😦
From the pool report:
“The Goldbergs’ home was perched high atop a hill, with gorgeous views of the water in the distance. Tonight’s event was held outdoors with the temperature hovering around 80 degrees. Guests were seated at round tables under a white tent. Carol Goldberg introduced the president, offering effusive praise.
Obama looked vacation casual, donning a button-down shirt and khaki pants. He opened with a standard summation of his presidency, touting all the progress that’s been made but noting that more work remains to be done. He ticked off the challenges that the country is facing, from climate change to violence around the world and then quickly segued into making the case for Clinton.”
It really has been something to watch the GOP implode in an effort to destroy and discredit this President. If only they had something to offer the American people. A party that had something to offer could focus on THAT.
In the “empowering boys who don’t really want to leave their Mommy to start school” category:
Here’s a brief report-out (for all you grandparents!) on my great grandson’s first day of Kindergarten! Let’s just say he apparently had a good day in the classroom, learned the rules (no spitting, no kicking, no biting), colored pictures, played Tag outside with the other kids and got a tiny red mark on his chin from it because he had fallen (apparently the other kids hadn’t heard his Mommy’s rule of not getting hurt – Ha!), thinks his teacher is NICE, and said there were six boys and six girls in the class with him (although Mommy says more like 22 total!). When his grandmother and uncle picked him up from school, he was sitting wearing a hat that said “I rocked the 1st day of Kindergarten” and said school was good and he had fun.
On the other side of that coin, I had to hear most of this second-hand, because once his Mommy got home from work, he told her he didn’t want to talk to her (apparently for dropping him off in the middle of the big scary you’re-on-your-own-now-kid world) and added, “You do know there’s no school tomorrow, don’t you?” and he refused to speak with me on the phone, but by the time Mommy relayed his responses to my questions, which he pleasantly answered third-hand, he had told her he WAS going to school tomorrow, he liked the teacher (and unlike what the neighbor boy right out of The Omen had told him, she was NICE), and asked what they were having for dinner. Whew!
I’m sure much of this is being repeated all across America this month! And I felt like crying all day, but I kept that to myself! ❤
This is my little guy, right, JO’B (I noticed earlier that he was off on this new adventure today)? I chuckled at the silent-yet not silent treatment; a man’s gotta let his feelings be known. 😀 😀 ‘told her he WAS going to school tomorrow’ >> Good for him!
Yes, it’s your little guy, VC ❤ and I have a little update – my son told me that by the time he spoke with them, they were in the car getting ice cream and his grandson was in the background singing a song they were singing in class – "We rocked Kindergarten" – and all happy and such.
My buddy CanadaBarb said about his meltdown when Mommy got home: " … his retaliatory skills are impeccable" !!!!!! He paid back Mommy for forcing him to go to Kindergarten, but all is well now. Thank God!
As VC said, jackieo, the little man has to make his feelings known. Glad it all washed over so quickly, too. You must be so proud of him, and his parents.
Awww, thanks. I’d rather have him in an environment where he can make his feelings known than to crush his little spirit (of course, I’m the great grandmother, so why wouldn’t I feel that way?!?).
God Bless Michelle Obama and President Obama. They have made has made such an enormous impact on our lives.
Congrats Jackie.

By Zeus! Another good ad. Il Douche should be crushed every day with his own words, those of other Republicans or the media.
Wow!

I saw the whole speech by VP Biden. Couldn’t have been better!
I loved that statement!
Hello TOD Global Community.
It’s indeed a Manic Monday.
🍸 NW for all you do.
Congrats, J4O on your Au ⭐ medal.

I keep on fainting whenever I see my POTUS on the golf course. I wonder why!
You’re a sports fan? …. Yeah, that must be it. Lol.
You got it!
Trump is making his big speech about how he will take down the group that Obama founded.

Good one, Donna. LOL.
Thanks.
Good evening, DD. Other than being a whole year older, what’s up in your corner these days? 😀 😀
Hi VC, just peeking in from time to time. Enjoying vacation at the beach this week.

Aaaaw, Marilyn, that is so awful! What lifelong misery and pain for the children! Sure hope they have options other than foster care. {{Marilyn}}

@VP was spectacular at his old stomping grounds today. Couldn’t love him more:
Bonus: Instagram video of @VP with HRC at the Scranton house he grew up in… Love it.

Here’s a photo of @VP’s boyhood kitchen. (see pool report #4 above to see how event was described to the press).
And here’s the pool report on PBO at Martha’s Vineyard fundraiser for HRC tonight:
