Inside the Failing Mission to Tame Trump’s Tongue
    AUGUST 13, 2016

Donald J. Trump was in a state of shock: He had just fired his campaign manager and was watching the man discuss his dismissal at length on CNN. The rattled candidate’s advisers and family seized the moment for an intervention.

Joined by his daughter Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, a cluster of Mr. Trump’s confidants pleaded with him to make that day — June 20 — a

Ever since the Atlanta Summer Olympics, American women have led the charge. Thank you Title Nine and to all of the parents who taught their daughters that they are more than “sugar and spice and everything nice.” These days it is a compliment to say to anyone: “you hit, run, swim like a girl.”

How We Killed the Tea Party
Greedy PACs drained the movement with endless pleas for money to support “conservative” causes and candidates. I worked for one of them. But Tea Party ideas live on.
    August 14, 2016

As we watch the Republican Party tear itself to shreds over Donald Trump, perhaps it’s time to take note of another conservative political phenomenon that the GOP nominee has utterly eclipsed: the Tea Party. The Tea Party movement is pretty much dead now, but it didn’t die a natural death. It was murdered—and it was an inside job. In a half decade, the spontaneous uprising that shook official Washington degenerated into a form of pyramid scheme that transferred tens of millions of dollars from rural, poorer Southerners and Midwesterners to bicoastal political operatives.

“What began as an organic, policy-driven grass-roots movement,…” Organic, my big toe. This entire thing, whatever it was, was born out of unadulterated hate for the election of the First African American President. They wanted their country back. They and the GOPers that used and abused them wholly deserve each other. None of this came from a good place. The result is that their own hate swallowed them all up.

      Good riddance to them.

When young Schooling took the gold: Phelps had already won a gold that day — immediately followed by a total of 38 minutes to stand for a medal ceremony and then run to a semi-final. Then another swim in which Phelps earned a silver. Unbelievable. As for Negar’s “Little Boy that Could” story: Michael Phelps surpassed all conceivably credible odds to pick up 5 golds in Rio.
Congrats to this beyond incredible athlete.

Carlos Gutierrez, former United States Secretary of Commerce under George W. Bush, has endorsed Hillary Clinton, adding to a number of Republicans who are siding with the other side of the aisle in this election.

“I actually think Hillary Clinton has the experience, she’s been around, she knows how the system works. I think she’d make a darn good president,” he said on CNN’s State of the Union. “I would have preferred Jeb Bush, but I think Hillary is a great choice. I am afraid of what Donald Trump would do to this country.”

Several Republican members of Congress, including Maine Sen. Susan Collins, Sen. Mark Kirk of Illinois and Reps. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, Richard Hanna of New York and Scott Rigell of Virginia, aren’t backing Trump. Also, dozens of Republican national security officials recently signed a letter saying Trump would “risk our country’s national security and well-being.”

McConnell and the GOP minions in Congress filibustered and OBSTRUCTED all Jobs Bills including Veterans Bills since 2009:
After they’d agreed to block all American progress and President Obama’s every attempt to pull us out of a Bush Depression.
In order to undermine the U.S. President, GOP conspired to bring down our Economy and take the Global Economy with it.
President Obama scared the pants off of these Do Nothing weenies.

I couldn’t get that video to play, but I think ole Shaq should stick to making goofy commercials. I guess he doesn’t remember the American Jobs Act that the gop killed at every turn. It was NOT the president’s “failure” or lack of trying it was a short-sided, self-interested, vindictive GOP congress. Major structural changes require legislation and cannot be accomplished through executive action alone.

It wasn’t Shaq who made the comment. The comment was from an article in the New Yorker.

The GIF using Shaq’s expression was meant to convey the ridiculousness of the New Yorker piece.

Anyone here ever been attributed to liking an article on FB that you did not like?
My sister-in-law’s name was at the top of a Fox News article saying she liked this and the article showed Meghan McCain’s photo with words to the effect that Donald Trump’s words may be confusing, but Hillary Clinton’s words have killed thousands. I have emailed my SIL that this appeared in my FB news feed. She is a really big HRC supporter now and was in 2008. I cannot figure this out. It is not listed in her own site as being posted.

I usually think of the Olympics as being unifying….but now we have TrumpWorld…sickening

Elsewhere in the Olympics, the other side had a medal, too. Ibtihaj Muhammad, a New Jersey-born Muslim woman, is the first American athlete to compete wearing a hijab, the traditional Muslim headscarf, and now is the first to win a medal, with a bronze in team sabre. When asked early in the Games if she hoped Trump was watching, she brushed the question off; she did, however, speak about not feeling safe in a country where demagoguery was a mainstream political brand. After winning the medal, Muhammad was asked: does it matter more that she is doing this, and competing as a Muslim woman, at this particular moment in American history?

“Oh, I think so,” Muhammad said. “We’re in a really peculiar time in our country where people are comfortable saying things about particular groups. They encourage fear, they encourage violence, and I want to challenge those ideas.

“My time at the Olympics is bigger than me. There are a lot of people out there who face challenges because of who they are.”

Well not to put too much of a fine point on it but Bush was actually clearing “Brush”. I only make this point because when one is on a cattle drive, brush can be a total nightmare to deal with as it can impede or block a path that a cattleman or cattlewoman uses to take their herd to market. Even though I’m a “City Slicker” I’ve spent time out on the range eating beans and listening to stories about how it was back in the day.

        August 14, 2016 at 5:47 pm

Unfortunately, I have seen Bush’s “ranch.” It is not a cattle ranch. It is dry, desert-like land outside of Waco, Texas. All there is to do on that land is “clear brush” not for any reason, just to have something to do. The other thing he did was ride his bike around the “ranch.” I put ranch in quotation marks, because it is not a working ranch; it is land that gave Bush the Texas background Rove thought he needed.
