Yay for Jackie! Huge thanks to Nerdy for tremendous work on the blog. We hope Chips is enjoying it from wherever she needs to be right now. Really enjoying the diversity of this Olympics. Spiciest and strongest US women’s gymnastics team ever!

    Thank you NW 🙂

    Well done Jackie 🙂

From the bottom of the previous thread ….

WE must push to have the truth told regarding the 2nd Amendment.

It exists SOLELY to support SLAVERY.

That is why it was created and it is one of the darkest truths of the time that in order to have the Constitution of the United States ratified it’s authors had to, were absolutely required to, ensure that SLAVE PATROLS would not come under Federal control.

It exists SOLELY to support SLAVERY.

Never, ever forget that simple fact.

    Thank you.

    back to work …..

    Congrats J4O on First!!!!

This week NBPC is in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, celebrating black stories with a free reception and a screening of the riveting narrative short You Can Go, starring S. Epatha Merkerson (“Law & Order”) and Charlie Tahan (“I Am Legend”).

“You Can Go” — which premiered this year at Tribeca Film Festival and was nominated for HBO’s Short Film Competition — spends nine minutes with a high school administrator and a troubled student as their conversation escalates into a danger zone. Prior works of the filmmaker, Christine Turner, include Homegoings, which NBPC was proud to co-present during the 2013 season of PBS’s POV series.

“You Can Go” will be screened Friday, August 12, 7:30 PM at Martha’s Vineyard Performing Arts Center as part of the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival (#MVAAFF). If you’re planning to be in Massachusetts this coming week, don’t miss it!

    Tickets are still available here.

Check out a trailer for “You Can Go” here.

It still would require McConnell to bring it to the floor. Just yesterday he said obstructing the vote was one of his proudest achievement. I hope I’m completely wrong but I just don’t see this happening.

      • August 9, 2016 at 7:13 pm

I saw that…and then Sen. Kaine’s response yesterday was a nice & subtle shot at McConnell…”would vote for Garland in lame duck while also implying that HRC may or may not re-nominate him after the election” …..I personally think HRC would like to have a nomination fight out of the way to clear the deck for RGB retirement and make the court 6-3….while not using up all of her political capitol right after the election….my two cent, Meta 😕

It will be interesting to see how the GOP handles confirmation hearings when we retake the Senate. I think she will nominate another woman.

    • August 9, 2016 at 7:27 pm

In the case of the senators who have to defend their seat this year, they’re blocking so they don’t offend “the base”, whose votes they need to win .

    GE TODville.

Something to keep in mind when MSM shove college polls down their audience’s throat (Meta and I responded to Betsy on previous thread after this one opened, who asked why the Q poll showed HRC leading by a single point.

    Meta responded:
“Quinnipiac polls are not very reliable. They weight their sampling heavily toward whites and uneducated. IOW, Trump’s base.
Her numbers probably look a LOT better than this.”

    From the article:

“But the leaders in this expansion of academic polling are hardly household names outside of politics, including Marist College in New York, Monmouth University in New Jersey, Suffolk University in Massachusetts and Quinnipiac University here in Connecticut.

For these schools, polling in a polarized America yields a marketing bonanza akin to what others might reap through college football bowl games or the NCAA basketball tournament. They are building brands through surveys of political battlegrounds.”

Here’s the tweet on previous thread that prompted Betsy’s question:

In tennis, so it could be something about the Rio tennis courts.

On the other hand, Serena has not looked well this entire time (in Rio). Her serve was virtually non-existent and her game has been just off. Yesterday her voice was quite hoarse so she probably is suffering from a virus of some sort. Not entirely out of the realm of possibility when you consider that Venus was not well and confirmed to have a virus by an MD.

But Serena is the GOAT of tennis, she’s lost before, and gone on to do well subsequently. I hope she’s well enough to win another trophy at the US Open in early September.

So the media keep complaining because Hillary won’t have a press conference – why on earth should she – the ONLY questions they want to ask are about emails, emails, emails. Hillary and her advisors are well aware of this. Hope she refuses to ever be in front of the WHPC.

In other words, what Trump just did is engage in so-called stochastic terrorism. This is an obscure and non-legal term that has been occasionally discussed in the academic world for the past decade and a half, and it applies with precision here. Stochastic terrorism, as described by a blogger who summarized the concept several years back, means using language and other forms of communication “to incite random actors to carry out violent or terrorist acts that are statistically predictable but individually unpredictable.”

    Interesting term….”stochastic terrorism”

this has been used against the President on more than a few occassions by the TP folks..

been used against abortion clinics…blk folks …gay folks …etc….

Outcry over GOP nominee Donald Trump’s claim that “Second Amendment people” could do something about Supreme Court nominations made by Hillary Clinton follows years of National Rifle Association efforts to normalize the notion that the purpose of the Second Amendment is to overthrow a “tyrannical” government. As NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre has put it, “The guys with the guns make the rules”

As the women’s synchronized diving teams took to the pool in Rio de Janeiro today, they were greeted by a strange sight. The diving pool had turned green overnight, while the neighboring water polo pool remained a crystal clear blue. This confused the Olympic organizers, media, and the internet profusely. Long story short: it’s most likely an algae bloom.

Olympic divers report that the water is so cloudy, they can’t see their diving partners.

In the meantime—green water or not—Olympic athletes are still diving into the pool, so they must not be too worried about the safety.

we must remember and keep pushing the fact that an overwhelming majority of REPUBLICANS in america voted for this vile man to be the most powerful person in the world. republicans cannot be allowed to separate themselves from this mess. they “built this!” “the news” will continue trying to separate chump from the party that nominated him for president, and keep pushing the idea that there are “reasonable republicans” who are separate from chump. they are the same thing.

Donald Trump would ’cause mayhem’ for Australia’s security alliance with US: Kim Beazley

Former defence minister Kim Beazley has warned a Donald Trump presidency could cause mayhem for Australia’s national security and wreck the crucial security alliance with the United States.

His comments come after senior national security officials in the US warned Mr Trump would be the most reckless president in American history.

Mr Beazley — who finished his posting as US ambassador earlier this year — told the ABC the Republican candidate would also trigger an unnecessary confrontation with China if he wins the election.

“Were there to be a Trump presidency — and I think that’s slightly less likely than more likely that that will occur — he would trash basically the structure of alliance relationships and trade relationships in our immediate region,” he said.

    GE TODville.

Just a gentle reminder that every. single. day Trump is gonna say something that Sharron Angle or Todd Akin or Richard Mordock or countless other RWNJs who didn’t get elected said after the MSM-fueled “tea party.”

And it’s only get worse as he lags further behind and continues to spend $0 ad dollars. He is certifiably insane, and I shudder to think of the real-life consequences of MSM making it OK to spew Nazi, Aryan white nationalism, bigotry and violence.

But to go back to the subject at hand… PBO:

And this is absolutely delicious, an article to savor after experiencing the grotesque filth of the DJT “campaign.”

From the must-read/savor-with-great-anticipation-this-Fall article, contrasting the two men:
“Obama prizes reasoned dialogue; Trump is an ignorant demagogue. Obama strives to make judicious judgments; Trumps’ sputterings are mindless to the point of danger. Obama speaks to inclusiveness and generosity; Trump to suspicion and divisiveness. Obama is a man of dignity; Trump a narcissistic buffoon who would degrade our public life.”

    And concludes:
“Come the fall, Barack Obama will be free to mount an argument in his own time and way, giving everything he has to make sure that the next president embraces, not destroys, the values he has brought to the office. And, by doing this, he will exact his well-earned reprisal on Donald Trump, dispatching him from public life with the back of his hand.

Perhaps that is the best part. Barack Obama’s ultimate revenge is not simply that he will do that, but how — with a grace and elegance beyond the power of a man like Trump to summon, or even imagine.
