Allison, that’s disgusting and outrageous treatment of Olympic athletes. Rio is disgracing itself before the world. If they couldn’t handle the Olympics, they should have turned it down. And this city was chosen over Chicago!!!

How this response to Allison’s video of the rooms for Olympic athletes drifted down here is beyond my understanding.

Do you all remember, Russian Olympics building were in the same shape when the athletes went there and they were also bugged. I think it is time for the Olympics to get it’s shit together and don’t give it to a country that is too poor to get bid. The people in Brazil were also, disenfranchised in order to “supposed” build their buildings and such for the teams. It’s disgusting what this has turned into.

Good morning TODville, and good morning Ggail. Hope you all have a beautiful day.

Happy Happy 55th birthday to our wonderful President Barack Obama.

Sending lots of love to Chips and her family. Nerdy Wonka, thank you for keeping this place going.

Update on the Roaring Lion Fire south of me. Yesterday was a much cooler day and it help to slow the fire down. So far 14 homes have been lost and 50 out buildings. 500 homes evacuated. More on alert. They are hopeful to slow it down more. Still no timeframe of when they can get it under control. Lots of pictures and info if you Google Roaring Lion Fire Hamilton, MT.

It is fire season so when we get those dry storms with lightning fires start. We pray for a cooler August.

Winning a Super Bowl is great, maybe even greater than getting honored with a personal shout out at the White House by President Obama.

But not as great, we’re betting, as getting your grandmother back for Christmas after 16 years in prison.
The Broncos’ Demaryius Thomas can soon attest to that feeling. On Tuesday, Obama commuted the sentences of 214 inmates, including Minnie Pearl Thomas, 60, who was serving a life sentence for cocaine trafficking.
The wide receiver tweeted an immediate thank you.
“Wanna Thank the @POTUS for everything he’s done for my family, and a lot more families giving them second chances. Couldn’t be a better day!”

Today is a good day to put aside the ugliness and hate that is Donald Trump and the Republican Party and concentrate on our beloved President and his family. The evil drags us down, the goodness lifts us up and right now, on August 4, we have an abundance of goodness in the White House.

  21. 43 jackiegrumbacher
    August 4, 2016 at 9:18 am

Just heard that our Congressman, Republican Charlie Dent, will NOT vote for Trump! This is a brave statement to make in a Republican county. Either he’s willing to risk everything or he knows which way the wind is blowing. Some people won’t vote for him because of this, but I’m sure he’s hoping that more will.

    • 44 99ts
      August 4, 2016 at 10:15 am

He has said he is not voting for Hillary & who would people vote for if not the congressman? I can’t imagine any Trump supporter voting for a democrat. It is probably good for Hillary, but just amazing that Trump has got this far before major party members/supporters have come out against him. They have no-one to blame but themselves and at the minute (never can be sure before November) it looks as if the party will pay the price of making Trump their nominee.

    • 45 Obama Grandmama
      August 4, 2016 at 12:53 pm

I am so conflicted about whether I want Trump to stay in the role as GOP Presidential candidate or not. On the one hand, I am scared to death that he might win putting us all at risk. On the other hand, with Hillary’s high negative likability factor and the liar, crooked label I am afraid anyone substituted for Trump now would not have enough vetting time, would look like a gift in comparison to Trump and may be able to skate in for a win against Hillary.

Wow, thank you, Dudette. I want to respond to some very good comment by GGail about the lack of sophisticated technology in small towns. You can protect your vote and those of your fellow Dems if even one Democrat in the town has a landline, rotary phone. You appoint runners who make regular visits to each polling place to get messages from the poll watchers. Any poll watcher who’s harassed and asked to leave needs to call the state or national election protection number. If there is systematic harassment of any kind at the polls, one call to the 800 number is going to pour a lot action and negative publicity on the perpetrators, especially on election day and especially when the abuses have already been highlighted in the media. If a polling place has been moved to disadvantage minorities, any determined group, especially church groups, can organize car pools. There are ways to fight back and I guarantee you the Georgia state party will know about all of them. Also, if Georgia shows genuine promise of becoming a swing state, there are going to be Clinton people EVERYWHERE!!!

      • August 4, 2016 at 12:54 pm

Jackie what si the national election protection number? I assume I can google my state (California).

Good morning all. NW, you have done such a masterful job of keeping us informed, and happy! I wonder if PBO ever took a bad picture…..starting with his very first ones, which we all treasure! The Singapore visit pictures were wonderful.

I loved the president’s article from Glamour. My husband was a feminist too…..he said, he could not understand why men who had wives, mothers, sisters, daughters, did not want them to have the same opportunities as their sons or themselves. I loved him for that and so much more. He also thought women, on the whole, were more interesting people than men…..men only wanted to talk about sports it seemed, while women’s minds were more curious and creative. Women loved him, because he never “hit” on them, but respected and admired them, and they could trust him. I thought while we were in D.C. how much he would have enjoyed being with us, not minding being one of two men with all of us. He would have laughed and laughed, his big baritone voice ringing out. His blue eyes would have sparkled with delight.
We used to lead trips to Europe for groups, and usually more women than men traveled. Men only traveled if their wife came. Women ventured alone. I have a delightful picture in the café in the Musee d’Orsay of our table, six women and him, all of us laughing. He loved it.

      August 4, 2016 at 11:14 am

Oh, Carolyn, you were so blessed to have this man in your life, as I know you know. I so enjoy talking with men who are present and respect women’s minds. Too often I can be having a nice conversation with a man at a gathering or on the street in town, and another man walks up to us and I am instantly invisible, even in mid sentence. But for those men who are not threatened by women’s intelligence, the conversation simply expands to include anyone who joins the group. And you are so right about men and travel. I would take my daughters and travel the world with them, and hubby would stay home so he could play golf and watch sports on TV. So sad to have such a narrow view of the world.

Him even *thinking* it’s okay to use such language in front of an adult, especially in front of his mother, shows how much respect he has for her. That she’s tripping over herself to justify it explains *why* he has no respect. The language and the attitude is reinforced at home.

These Olympics make me a little anxious….anyone else? Saw an article somewhere that proposed just always holding them in Athens, Greece…just like the first Olympics…that might infuse some $$ into the Greek economy:)

If the countries that participate in the Olympics got together and all donated money to build those venues in Greece, then they can be held there every 4 years…at least the Summer Olympics.

        • 140 cd4biden
          August 4, 2016 at 4:04 pm

And if they did this, df, then the accomodations for the athletes would not be in the state that we saw in the video above. So disrespectful that those who are the heart and soul purpose of holding the Olympics, do not have completed quarters to live in while there.

    • 141 Don
      August 4, 2016 at 12:43 pm

I don’t think all the other countries would stand for Greece being the only country to hold the Olympics, too much money is involved. But I do think that which ever country receives the Olympics that country should have the infrastructure in place. Brazil might have bitten off more than it can chew in hosting the Olympics.

        August 4, 2016 at 1:14 pm

I saw an intriguing documentary on PBS Tuesday night on the 1936 “Nazi” Olympics. Many of the factors we consider necessary today in the Olympics started then. One thing which began then was the running of the Olympic flame from Athens to the site. Also, spectacular opening and closing ceremonies. Hitler wanted the venues to be huge and spectacular, and the original plans were scrapped because they were too mediocre. He, of course, wanted to prove the superiority of the “Aryan” race, which fortunately did not happen. Since then it appears that every host has tried to top the previous one.

An interesting segment concerned the U.S. rowing team. An unknown group from University of Washington, composed of lumberjacks, farmers, sons of shopkeepers, not the elite of the East. Germany was favored and had won the four man races, but the big race was the eight man, and Hitler was there for the big finals. The all-heart, U of Washington crew won that race, and Italy came in second. If you get a chance to see “The Boys of Summer 1936” I urge you to watch it. It will do your heart good.
