      I love how Sasha has grown into a lovely young lady. But a part of me wishes that she could have gone totally (unrealistic, I know) incognito for her summer job. Just my own wishful thinking. Also, something rubbed me the wrong way with this article. As if she couldn’t have gotten this job w/out her parents! Please! As if she’s lived in luxury her entire life! Give me a break! Maybe my over-protectiveness for this amazing family shadowed what I read. Oh well! 🙂

      Oh, & NW, where are my manners today! Bless your absolute wonderful, fierce heart! Thank you so much for all you do to keep TOD going. I, among a zillion of us, so much appreciate all you do. Even though I don’t comment as much as I’d love (life gets in the way here & there), I take my hat off to you every single day! HUGS!

        She’s top 5 right now, I imagine she will be 2nd only to Eleanor Roosevelt, or will be number 1 when history revisits this.

    NW,

    you are THE BEST!!!

    I can always depend upon TOD to give us the best of these kinds of visits. You are so appreciated for all that you do for us. You have been holding TOD down, and we all have noticed. The quality of TOD hasn’t gone down one iota during Chips’ break.

      I saw a tweet yesterday about the Koch brothers pouring money into state local and congressional races. They know the wh is lost

      • 56 catrst
        August 4, 2016 at 8:25 am

        They are pouring it into our senate race for one. The adds against their candidate are working though. I live in a rural mostly GOP area and it seems people are kind of sick of the privatize everything mentality. They don’t want to lose social security and having experienced the real Koch experiment up close and personal for a few years due to Tea Party ascendance here they are registering it as true that the Koch candidate would want to privatize it or weaken it. Interesting.

    wondering if, in honor of PBO’s 55 birthday, we can mobilize others to donate multiples of $5 to HRC or any Dem organization;

    Last Wednesday he asked us to do for HRC what we had done for him;

    so #55forPBO

    Good evening TOD! Really surprised to see Sanders looking for more donations in the middle of campaign season. I expected he would do it when the election was over but not now. Some of us just remain too optimistic about folks getting their priorities straight. I will be very surprised to see him out on the campaign trail for Clinton, think he is just too selfish.

    Managed to catch the town hall this afternoon, awhile after it was broadcast. Ya know, PBO is just soooo kind! Don’t know if any of you caught it, but on one question it came from someone who was hearing impaired. PBO made sure to get a translator over there, but then in the middle of the question they had to get a second one to translate from the original language and then from sign language. Throughout, PBO just did everything possible to stay relaxed and make it seem like not a big deal although at times the silence really stretched. It almost made me cry, just love this man and his compassion for everyone.

    Caught a couple of other snippets today that I thought were interesting. There is a new book out about those white non-college men called the Hillbilly Elegy. It is by a man who grew up somewhere in Ohio, had a pretty distressed childhood, joined the Marines, went to college and I believe now works in the financial sector. He was on Chris Hayes tonight and Chris specifically asked him about the racism we’re seeing in this campaign. His answer was interesting and sad. He said there was no doubt that some racism existed but it was not predominant and nothing like we are seeing now. Rather, it is his opinion part of the reason it now seems so predominant is these voters are following Trump’s example rather than Trump appealing to something that was widespread previously, at least in the author’s experience. Not sure if this country will ever really recover from the damage that has been done in this campaign.

    BUT on the good news front, caught something with Chuckie Todd this afternoon. The Fox poll is just the beginning, which is the REAL reason the GOP is in a panic. NBC has its pollster in the field and there a bunch of private polls, all showing Hillary with big leads. He mentioned that in one swing district in IA that GOP would need to win to take IA she is up by 13. Just hoping that no one takes good news as a reason to be complacent. I am a little concerned that her unfavorables are so high some of her voters could still switch. That said, I’d much rather head into the home stretch with a nice lead.

    Hope everyone is having a great day, and Nerdy, thank you again for all you do. These photos are just beautiful!

      Hi Foxfire

      I thought I read that he was going to campaign for other races but NOT for President – sounds like Sanders – doesn’t want to be one of many – he’ll campaign for a few lost causes

      And the Polls – apparently one of the pollsters (sorry the name escapes me) is keeping Trump in the race by underestimating the minority vote – based on “without PBO the white vote will be a large % of the total”

        GM Bob – stimulus policies I agree with – but the monetary policy of low interest rates has done little. As we discovered in the 1990s rates at medium levels generate the best growth.

        Interest rates at near zero are a sure way of continuing deflation. Brings about massive household debt as cheap loans abound and does little to stimulate business growth. Anyone who has watched 20 years of deflation in Japan should know this.

      The Donald seems to fit many of the disorder descriptors as I found last week from research he fit pathological liar and sociopath as well as authoritarian and narcissist. In short, not a person to be launching nuclear weapons or to be CIC.

    What is this about the 4 hostage from Iran and $400 million dollars? They are trying to say it was money paid to Iran for the freeing of the hostages.I haven’t been paying any attention to it, do any of you guys know what it is about?

    • 77 99ts
      August 4, 2016 at 8:00 am

      gm Bella – it was refunding money (plus interest) that Iran paid the US in 1979 for equipment that was never supplied. The President spoke about it in January (the media must have forgotten). The interest deal was very good for the US, Iran wanted much more.

    • 78 Linda
      August 4, 2016 at 8:04 am

      We gave back 400 million of Iran’s OWN money that was being held here . They had made of weapons purchase that never went through due to the hostage crises during the Carter Administration. It was part of the 1.6 billion of Iranian money we were holding here.

      Media is trying to say we paid ” ransom ” . The payment and the hostage release happened on the same day. One problem….the media and Republicans are trying to spin it as ” secret deal ” , but the State department released the information back in January in a printed statement. So, as usual, the media pretends that never happened….

      It is a made up controversy.
