Thank you for these tweets, meta. The stupidity of the anti-TPP movement is staggering. I hope that common sense will prevail because these idiots are actually advocating that all the ills of NAFTA remain in place AND China achieves trade dominance in the world, shutting our US workers.

        • July 29, 2016 at 3:38 pm

You’re so welcome. I think I’m so obsessed about this because I know how important it is to PBO, to our country. And to have worked so long on it only to see it squandered……I’ve personally worked on longitudinal studies and projects to upgrade systems and systems thinking that have suffered that fate because people resisted change. People get mired in old patterns of thinking and doing and can’t see the forest for the trees. It’s truly astounding because change is so necessary and resisting doesn’t make the issues go away.

The Convention Showed Confident Democrats and Progressives
    by Martin Longman
    July 29, 2016 12:00 AM

    ……………………………………..

This was a Democratic Party that was fiercely positive about America and completely non-defensive and unapologetic about how their racial diversity, religious pluralism and cultural liberalism might alienate historically critical voting blocs.

Tim Kaine spoke a foreign language repeatedly during his speech, clearly demonstrating that the party does not give a shit about alienating the crowd that seethes when told to push ‘2’ for Spanish. Clinton adopted a more progressive set of policy prescriptions than any modern Democrat, in defiance of people’s expectations and the Clintons’ historical positioning as New Democrats. She was carving so much meat off the moderate Republican bone with her proudly American thematics that she was utterly unconcerned about pushing economic moderates into Trump’s arms.

This was basically the triumph of the counterculture–a kind of bat mitzvah for a decades-long movement–today, you are a woman.

    Today, you are the mainstream.

No more apologizing for what you believe. No more bashing your own voters to win the support of bigots.

And because this new progressive movement knows that it is winning and that it owns the future, it’s positive about America. America is a good place that is headed in an even better direction, and they are not fearing any man.

These are all disorientating developments because they defy what people think they know about the Democratic Party and the Clintons and politics in general.

And it’s somewhat of a gamble because it’s still possible that the majority of people in this country do not want to be part of a pluralistic, multiethnic, socially liberal and tolerant society led by a party of people who want to enact a broad liberal agenda.

Yes, rikyrah, this is so true, and another sign that PBO had a strong hand in the planning of this convention. It has his motto written all over it, “When they go low, I go high.”

      To quote from the link

The appeals court — citing a lower court’s findings — pointed out that state lawmakers sought data breaking down voting practices by race. The judges said that the law’s provisions singled out the practices disproportionately popular among African Americans, such as preregisteration and provisional voting.

“The district court found that not only did SL 2013-381 eliminate or restrict these voting mechanisms used disproportionately by African Americans, and require IDs that African Americans disproportionately lacked, but also that African Americans were more likely to ‘experience socioeconomic factors that may hinder their political participation,'” the opinion said.

This chapter; Black Lives Matter group in Cuyahoga County (BLMCC), should be very careful. They should take a minute and talk with Flint Michigan and ask them how it’s working out going from a Dem governor to a Repug. How does that water taste?

However, Cleveland Scene reported that Mixon’s group is not affiliated with the national network. Black Lives Matter in Cleveland is the only group that is.

“This is not our chapter nor are we affiliated with them,” BLM in Cleveland spokesperson, Latonya Goldsby – a cousin of Tamir Rice – told Cleveland Scene in an email. “The Black Lives Matter Network that we represent is not connected with this organization.”

It is so important to not just read a headline or snippet, but read the entire article.

I was puzzled by the opening statement of the tweet because it reminds me of other declarations heard from Nina Turner and Ben Jealous stating that “Democratic candidates shouldn’t count on Black votes but earn them”, something to that effect.

I would not be surprised that whoever the leader is was promised something. Something for him/her.

Don’t you mean Tim Kaine? Was Bill there? As far as Bill having a problem on stage last night. I watched Chelsea’s husband Mark grab ahold of him also when Bill was chasing balloons and had this childs look on his face. He was shaking a lot also and during his speech. I wonder if he doesn’t has some form of onset of Parkinson’s disease.

      • July 29, 2016 at 1:57 pm

I don’t really know! There was all this buzz yesterday on twitter because everyone on the main floor had a card wrapped in plastic underneath their seat with instructions to open it at a certain time when instructed by monitors standing in front of them. Guess it didn’t work!

  35. 103 FoxfireTX
    July 29, 2016 at 3:11 pm

One of the most POWERFUL things I have read this election cycle:

“We are having an election that is about whether we, as a nation, value people like Khizr and Humayun Khan. Whether they are real Americans. Whether we will define our nation by shared values, as both parties have claimed we do for decades, or by ethnicity, as Donald Trump would have us do.
    ….
This is a load of nonsense, as we can all tell by Trump’s attacks on “Mexican” Judge Gonzalo Curiel and by his demands for President Obama’s birth certificate. Trump’s concept of the nation he speaks for is not about values or citizenship or even birthplace. It is about ethnicity.

If you are a white model from Europe, like Antonio Sabato Jr. or Melania Knauss, you are welcome in Trump’s America. If you are a brown or black person, you are suspect, even if you are a citizen, and even if you were born in Indiana or Hawaii (as in the cases of Curiel and Obama).

This is the philosophy of a major-party candidate for president, who has most of his own political party lined up behind him. It is enraging, it is scary, and it is sad. And I cried Friday morning because it was even necessary for someone to stand up at a party convention and explain why that candidate is wrong.

I did not expect people like House Speaker Paul Ryan to behave so indecently as to line up behind this hateful man, who does not even agree with them on public policy. I was naive, and I am sad, because it means we have a less durable democracy than I thought.”
I rewatched Khizr Khan’s speech — and it made me weep for our country

  36. 106 FoxfireTX
    July 29, 2016 at 3:27 pm

Ya know, there are days when I wonder if our media has one working brain cell in their collective heads! I was watching Don Lemon late last night (too excited to sleep) and he had a couple of gopers to round out the panel. They were talking about Kahn’s powerful speech, and one of the GOP commentators said Trump is simply where the party is, most want the Muslim ban. Now there is new poll showing most of idiot GOPers think it was just fine for Trump to call on Russia to hack our systems. Tell me, has ANYONE heard of LEADERSHIP? We all know there will be no booing at PBO rallies. Why, you ask? Because PBO says no booing. In short, all those “poorly educated” Republicans are the most susceptible to being like sheep to the wolves’ den. Of course they are agree, because Trump has told them to think that way. But then they turn around and use it as an excuse, that is where our party. The circularity is mind boggling, and no one says a word to them.

    End of rant:-)

    • 107 Obama Grandmama
      July 29, 2016 at 3:51 pm

So true about the importance of a good leader setting the parameters of behavior using PBO’s “Don’t boo. Vote!” as an example. Noticed Hillary used it during her speech and even credited PBO. No plagiarism there.
Bernie is an example of a leader that could inspire followers, but did not realize the power of a leader. His many rants against Clinton affected many of his followers long term. He did not realize how far to go or how long it would take to walk back the damage he did. He concentrated on his revolution message and with no real party loyalty did damage to the Democratic Party. As a teacher we always knew it takes many more affirming positive messages to erase negative ones planted in kids’ heads.

Yep this is a wedge issue which means I’m not gonna retweet that wonderful tweet. I have come to the conclusion that because so many of our people do not read, they lack the critical thinking skills to assess rather than react to complex policy ideas. HRC said it did not meet her jobs test so she will do some tweaking or add some clarifying langauge and move forward with it. But for right now, she should do what she’s doing. Just because more people watched does not mean that this will translate into votes for him. Many watched to see what we are up against and some watched the way people slow to watch car wrecks, and still others watched for the entertainment value. Furthermore, what about the millions who watched Hillary’s speech on the internet? Ratings, really is all that the Cheetos man has been about for years (I even remember his very embarrassing appearance on the television show HeeHaw, dressed in overalls, many years ago). We will keep it moving registering voters, pushing back on the lies, and praying that this man gets no where near the White House at any time.

Yesterday, Trump kept telling his supporters not to watch the final night of the DNC. I do not see the MSM saying that. Then HE watches it himself. Shouldn’t that say something to his followers? He wanted his ratings to be higher since tv ratings are so important to him. He influenced the ratings by telling his people not to watch.
