There are going to be big thunderstorms in Philly tonight and also in this area. It had better not knock out our power and reception or I will be a very unhappy camper. Anybody on the Philly streets attempting to protest the convention is going to get drenched.

Following this discussion of the Bernie “protesters” on Twitter: https://twitter.com/tcwittes/status/758775202616643585 – I hope the DNC can do something to prevent a protest. 😦

      GA Meta.

Saw that I missed him, hope I can find video of his appearance.

Have heard him several times on @knx1070’s monthly “Ask The Mayor” segment, and have been so impressed with him — he’s is very active and engaged in so much in LA, ranging from attacking the homeless problem here, improving LAX, improving light rail and bicycling here — wish we had a person of such vision here 40 years ago — from what I’ve seen, LA is such a sprawling, diverse, unmanageable city that it’s hard to do much more than keep your head above water as mayor.

He’s definitely handsome, with such an interesting heritage (Mexican, Irish, Italian):

His grandfather immigrated from Italy and married a Mexican-Irish (which from personal experience offers a good chance of great-looking genes) woman from Arizona.

And of course, his father was LA’s DA during #TheTrialOfTheCentury, OJ Simpson.

      • July 28, 2016 at 8:56 pm

Thanks for all that background. I’d heard some of that but didn’t really have a sense if he was admired. He seems like such a great guy to me.

          GE Maryl.

Bernouts are such immature, privileged juveniles in adult bodies.

Heard a Bernout leader from CA delegation on the radio today who complained about the way they were being treated, and when the reporter asked about what the Bernout thought about not supporting HRC could pave the way for Trump, the Bernout didn’t care — “it’s a movement, bigger than one person.”

Oh, and this guy was from Playa Del Rey — recently heard an ad for some homes there “starting at $1 million.”

They are nothing but privileged troublemakers and I hope Dems have learned their lesson, and never allow someone who IS NOT a Dem run as a Dem. Meta tweeted something along those lines a couple of days ago.

          • July 29, 2016 at 1:02 am

Privilege is the operative word there. They are not only blind to the consequences to other people, they don’t even realize that they would suffer the consequences themselves.

          • July 29, 2016 at 1:04 am

Privilege is the operative word there. They are not only blind to the consequences to other people, they don’t even realize that they would suffer the consequences themselves. At first I thought that it was smart to let him run as a Democrat to avoid a third party candidate, but then he proceeded to use the party’s resources and run as a third candidate within the party. That right there shows his ethical standards.

  19. July 28, 2016 at 6:27 pm

On the last night of the Democratic convention on Thursday that will culminate when Hillary Clinton accepts the nomination and addresses the audience, a representative from an unlikely group will be in the lineup of speakers preceding her: Jennifer Pierotti Lim, one of the leaders from Republican Women for Hillary, will address the audience.

“It’s really important that Republican leaders, especially Republican women leaders, stand up right now and say we’re not OK with Trump representing our party,” Lim told CNN earlier this month.

    • July 28, 2016 at 7:18 pm

I’m glad they’re voting for Hillary at the top of the ticket-really glad. But I’m sure they are voting for all the other twisted GOP candidates. It’s just amazing to think that after all the anti-woman gibberish they’ve spouted and legislation they’ve past it took the monstrous Trump to finally horrify them. I’m glad they’re voting for her, but it is a drop in the bucket compared to what they’ve helped foist on this nation.

Just got home and about to turn on the live YouTube feed. Cleared my schedule for the rest of the day.

I saw this posted on an earlier thread I think. This picture is so iconic to me, not only because of its exquisite defiance of racist taboos of the past (and of the present, for some idiots), but also because President Obama and Sec Clinton have both taken so much grief, vitriol and bullsh*t during their careers. They have both been accused of imaginary crimes, been the inspiration for the craziest of conspiracy theories and each of them hated for their audacity to defy the status quo.

I imagine them both thinking about how each of them has survived more opposition than just about any other political figure and, to paraphrase Maya Angelou, “Still they rise.”

    Damon Young, 7/28/16

For as long as I’ve been aware of American politics and the differences — real and perceived — between our two major parties, I’ve also been aware that the GOP has been touted as the party for grown-ups. For serious (White) men and the women those serious (White) men were married to. The solid and sober and solemn oak trees of America, that stood stubbornly and valiantly steady while the winds of social change swayed anything unfortunate enough to be unsettled. No, you would not find many new ideas floating around them. Or platforms. Or concepts. Or even new types of people. In fact, not only would you not find these things, they’d be openly antagonistic towards them, regarding them as distractions. Weeds. Flotsam. But at least — at the very least — their performative grownassness was reliably reliable.

Yet, as I’ve watched both the RNC and the DNC over the past week and a half, listening to each party’s litany of speakers and celebrities and alphas, one theme has been a bit more stark and unambiguous than the rest: The Democrats are led by grown-ups. Which is something the Republicans can no longer say about themselves after collectively deciding to rally behind a half-baked soufflé of analog cucumbers.

Regardless of what you say about Hillary Clinton — and there are many, many, many, many uncomplimentary things you could say about her (and be right) — you can not deny that she’s a serious woman. With a serious career. And serious ideas. Who has devoted her life to doing serious things. And who is comfortable in a room with equally serious people. Basically, she’s a fucking grown up. As is our President and Vice President. And Hillary’s husband, the former President. All men who could and should be criticized and held accountable for decisions they’ve made. But all fucking grown ups.

Minority Dem delegates frustrated with ‘Bernie or Bust’

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — As most Democrats rally around Hillary Clinton, the lingering “Bernie or Bust” movement is stirring frustration at the party’s convention among delegates of color, who say they’re upset at the refusal of the Vermont senator’s most fervent backers to fall in line.

“I am so exhausted by it,” said Danielle Adams, a black Clinton delegate from North Carolina. “I think there are undercuts of privilege that concern me.”

Adams is among those who say the “Never Hillary” crowd, a group that is largely younger and white, isn’t considering the struggles black Americans still face every day. And, they argue, how the nation’s ethnic and racial minorities may be affected by a Donald Trump presidency.

Rep. Cheryl Brown, a California delegate from San Bernardino who is black, condemned what she called the “aggressive” behavior of some Sanders delegates, saying they jumped on tables and shoved people at the state’s hotel the night that Sanders moved that the convention nominate Clinton by acclamation.

“I think here at the convention, it’s been exacerbated by the way they are treating people,” she said. “I haven’t had that happen with any of the African-American Bernie supporters.”

Yes, Enough is enough Bernie. Get over yourself and bring your followers to the table. That is how you will make a difference.

Donna Brazile is a very close friend of the Clintons, and I have a feeling she knows what is going on. I doubt she will let anything damage Hillary’s big night. She is tough and smart. Also, POTUS isn’t going to let anything spoil her night…..he and his troops know what is going on. When has he not? How many times have people said “Why doesn’t he say this, or that or do this or that…..” Assuming he was ignorant of the situation, then in a speech or press conference, he blew everyone away by dealing with whatever they complained about. I know this will be taken care of.

My husband always said when I would worry about the President and events……”He’s got this, Carolyn. Trust him.”
Isn’t that what Bob always told us? Trust Barack, he’s earned it.

Tongue in cheek, I’d say America needs all the blessing that can be directed her way.

IMO it’s a simple and harmless enough way to cut back on the complains that would be bound to be launched in the current climate were speakers to omit it. Would probably be reacted to along the lines of the reaction to ‘Happy Holidays’.

They need to take their stupid asses back to California; so tired of them. This is Bernie’s only sad and silly legacy; glad that the unruly children booed him. The tone is set at the top; he encouraged them to be unruly, even reveled in it and like the republicans, have created a monster that cannot be controlled. PBO taught his followers how to behave long ago and it is serving us well. In Bernie’s case, the head was rotten and it only produced rotten fruit.
