Remember, Malia is in Spain now. Also, it may have been to emotional for POTUS. Did you see him tearing up at the end of his speech as he walked from side to side on the stage. If only Michelle and Sasha came out, I bet he would have lost it.
Our President is such a good man, and that speech was totally brilliant and humble. The ending was so powerful complete with Hillary joining him on the stage. Such a filling event.
I am feeling all kinds of ways and almost in tears (as PBO was during part of this). I love him so much (wish I could have one of those hugs). He uplifted us all and showed us our better angels . His face looked transcendent. It was so powerful when Hillary came out. I feel that we can get this done and that we have a great team. All vestiges of fear that I have had have dispersed; fired up and ready to go!
And did you see when the cameras panned up to Bill after Hillary and POTUS hugged. He had an interesting look on his face, kind of like “what part am I going to play in all this?” I mean he is entering an entirely undefined role. Anwyway, I thought it was an interesting expression.
As a cynic of politics and politicians for decades, the kenyan brought back the belief that a sincere and honest politician can make the big difference and in that process, transition from a politician to a statesman.
Hope the dem party and hillary realize that too and use him to their advantage.
Wow, i’m such a basket case now I don’t how I’m going to survive our illustrious Prez and magnificent First Family’s ride out across the horizon come January. What a privilege to bear witness to his masterful leadership of our great country.
I had to take a walk to allow my tears to flow. It’s impossible to put into words how much I love and respect that man. We have been so blessed. Now we much work to insure his legacy lives on.
I am off to bed. Not sure if I can sleep, but I have an early, long day tomorrow. Good night.
I watched PBO on CNN, while my friend and her husband watched on PBS at their home. We conversed by phone at the end and we were all in tears. What a speech!
I am an Afro-Caribbean woman who is a British citizen living in a British colony. But in my heart, PBO is my president. I hope you, my friends here at TOD, do not mind my claim. I truly love your first family.
I need to sleep on this…I was sobbing like a baby. I love him. LOVE HIM. My heart was filled with hope, brimming with pride and aching with the thought that his time is drawing down….grateful to live in the Age of Obama. xoxox
I’ve been miffed at Axe for awhile with his CNN gig and oddly negative remarks from time to time. But that statement was strong and true, and the emotion that he displayed was called for.
President Obama is amazing. Actually, I feel as though my vocabulary does not afford me the ability to state how I feel about President Obama. I’m going to miss not seeing him everyday or most days. This was probably his last major speech and what a speech it was! I love him dearly.
Not trying to start a fight here, but see, this is why I’ll never get that people think Bill Clinton is such a great speaker. IMO, he could never hold a candle to FLOTUS, VP and POTUS. Never.
Bill Clinton is fabulous at simplifying complex things for people, making people laugh.
Barack Obama is pretty good at explaining things but what he is fabulous at is the “aspirational” speech. He elevates your soul, and makes your heart sing. It’s the depth of his heart and his soul that he shares with us.
WOW what a night!!!!!! Fantastic speeches, watched it all on CNN!!!!! Loved the all. Thank you NW still up and working at this late hour for you. (Its 4:00pm for me). Now back to the earlier threads and catch up with the rest of the TODders.
I feel the same, David. I prayed that God would give POB wisdom in his speech tonight as he spoke to all of us, and I do believe my prayers were answer. Our beloved President spoke to the nation and we needed it. I love this man so much, and for my seven decades plus, I am so grateful to be living in these times. What a journey. Tears and more tears. God bless you, Mr. President.HZ
Thank you, chips, for creating this wonderful space and guarding it like a fierce mom. I can’t remember when I last logged out of this damned place. I blame you.
Thank you, ut. for your tireless work on behalf of us lazies. I blame you too for making me stay here.
Ms NerdyW, I truly thank you for your commitment and hard work over the past weeks! Your coverage of this DNC convention has been stellar and I don’t doubt that it occasioned a fair bit of sacrifice and some sleeplessness on your part. THANKS!
WOW….I’m still trying to process the overwhelming pride, joy, inspiration, hope, that our President’s speech (and pretty much all of tonight’s DNC speakers) have left me. What a gift to be alive at this time!
I always think my expectations might be a little too high, that he’s given us so much and knocked home runs out of the park when things were looking bad SO many times, that it would be okay for it to just be good, to be on point, that it would be enough. But DANG!!!! He did it AGAIN!!!!!! Just took us all from the past to the present to the future, with so many smiles, such humor and wit, so much persuasive sensible clarity and reframing of the garbage and shining light into the dark scary closet, and yet still going in for the scummy walking cheetoh with full armor and warrior truths. Home Grown Demagogue. He is our hero, our greatest President, our rabbi preacher cheerleader coach therapist buddy brother sister friend and commander in chief. How could he gather so many thoughts, details, points, insights, into one incredible coherent persuasive generous story, just what we needed to hear? We do not deserve his greatness. When he was moved to tears there, when he said that how he got through the hardest times, was us? US!??? I did not want him to stop talking. But he reminded us that he is going to be very busy doing his great good work, always. NERDYWONKA!!!!! How did you catch all those words and share them? YOU Are how so many people who didn’t hear it or couldn’t or missed parts can experience the whole shining message, little by little. Thank you Nerdy. Thank you TOD friends for all the bright and dear and sweet commentary, and the snarky too. Good night all. Good night CHIPS. Thank you for TOD. Thank you God In Heaven for the Great Gift of President Barack Obama. Grace. Because we do not deserve him but we needed him and all his gifts, still do, always will. Beautiful night. Some people will still be drawn to the hellhole swamp of mean nasty Guliani-OReilly-DTVille, because there is evil in the world, but the light and laughter and music and kindness and generosity and grownup goodness of ObamaNation will draw many many people to the light. He showed us the choice. And so did JOE B! I cherish every day remaining in this year of POTUS.
Ohh Nancie, so beautifully said… and I’m reduced to a sniveling heap again. Don’t think the job is gonna see me tomorrow, I need a day to process and collect myself..
I know Joe was so touched when PBO referred to him as “my brother, my friend” on a national stage with millions watching world wide. One of the many gifts and great legacies is what is possible when a President and Vice President respect and admire each other. That it is possible to have a real friendship that allows them to do great things. Joe accepted the position when he was assured that “he would be in the room where it happened” and PBO more than lived up to this and the country has been the better for it.
Michelle served notice on everyone “That’s my man.”
Yes, they were, Judith. I think anyone who is not affect by the President’s and VP’s words simply has a hardened heart, and probably lives a pretty bitter life. Not someone I would want to be friends with. I’ll take those at TOD any day over the ugly Berners. Love you guys! And {{{Chips}}}
Yeah, cuz that’s all it’s really about in this election, you not getting to hold up your anti TPP sign. Please proceed to have a stadium full of seats.
Wow, love this tweet Dudette. I can’t believe that every pundit on MSNBC gave positive comments about the speech, including Nicole Wallace and Steve Schmidt.
I bow down to you oh great Nerdy Wonka, in gratitude for your amazing ability to not only keep pumping out all these amazing tweets of the events of the evening, but also keeping on top of all the comments being posted here AND starting new threads with totally relevant title pages for each one. I cannot keep up, and all I am doing is simply reading each item. I don’t know how you do it. TOD is a wonderful place, and your talents and presence help so much to make it a loving home for all of us. Thank you so much.
Such a beautiful picture….my heart is so full right now…. one of the last times to see him stroll into the White House… can’t accept it… just can’t….unable to can… nope, nope nope.
One thing I keep thinking, whenever POTUS speaks is why don’t any of the other Democrats borrow his phrase, “Don’t boo. Vote!”? It is so effective, and I think really makes people stop and think. But I’ve never heard anyone else say it.
It is with such deep gratitude, Nerdy and Chips, that I can come here tonight. So few people understand how I love this man. I am 62 years old, a battered, scarred litigator, who often has to fight cynicism. For 8+ years, the Obama family has made the fight for this country we love so worth every second.
Fortunately or not, my emotions got under control due to a power outage. I cried through the introduction of him by the Gold Star mom, the video, and his initial remarks when everything went out including my recordings (yes, I had him taping on two channels to make sure I wouldn’t miss anything.) Took a few minutes but managed to bring him up on my phone, which I used until just before the end when the power finally came back on. Of course, by then I was crying again. I am sooooo grateful to have lived in the Obama era. Still taping hoping that I can pick up what I missed to watch many times again in the days to come. But I agree with John Harwood, this was President Obama’s love song to this incredible country.
What a day, what a time! Now try to imagine this experience of Barack Obama’s presidency without The Obama Diary….. can’t do it? Don’t want to even think about it?!! To Chipsticks, NerdyWonka, and all those who have made this the safest, sanest, funnest, and smartest place to be the past 8 years: Mmmmwwwwwwaaaahaaaha! ❤
Two of my friends on the east coast (NJ and FL) both called me after midnight, their time, to gush over the President’s speech. One (the movie buff) said, while we were trying to describe how perfect it was and couldn’t come up with the right words, that it reminded her of this. It was so lovely, I thought I’d share. Also “fit” because the President actually mentioned Fred Astaire and his dancing partner Ginger Rogers tonight!
***
No one ever better fit Fred Astaire in the dancer’s scheme of things than Mikhail Baryshnikov, opening the tribute on the occasion of the American Film Institute’s Life Achievement Award in 1981:
“You remember the remark by Ilie Nastase about Bjorn Borg: ‘We are playing tennis, he is playing something else.’ It’s the same with Fred Astaire — we are dancing, but he is doing something else.”
Thank you for this Dudette.
I actually want a DVD or something of all the videos played at this convention, of Hillary, and even DT. Many of them were so meaningful and on the money. A great way to show others the difference between these 2 parties right now (for those who seem to be living on another planet)
Thank you, Dudette, for all these wonderful tweets you found for us, and for the beautiful music, especially from PBOs inauguration. A lovely way to cap off an amazing evening.
Worse, they don’t even WISH to win the White House now. President Obama’s appeal to patriotism, REAL PATRIOTISM, has made impossible that they twist their soul and absolve themselves of voting for Trump.
Good morning, TOD. On the train, headed to PA breakfast. Of course I overslept, thank God my neighbor is one toshow up earlier than the agreed upon time, her phoning from my front door gave me the time needed to get washed, dressed and out the door!
Certainly nothing as detailed, fact-filled, inspirational and forward-looking as building a wall, making Mexico pay https://t.co/6ykKetNRzd— Norman Ornstein (@NormOrnstein) July 28, 2016
What an incredible night it was. I still recall the morning after PBO had won in 08 … strangers smiling at me on the subway, ppl were happy, just incredible. Not something I will ever forget. Almost 8 years later … PBO still evokes those same feelings :). How anyone can doubt his intentions is something I cannot comprehend. How grown up Republican men with families of their own, can’t bring themselves to work on gun control issues.
PBO is one of a kind. Simply amazing and the best. Can hardly wait for the library to be built.
Tears
Tears of pride and joy in these two who truly are close as brothers.
Wow. Loved Joe Biden and PBO tonight !!!
Yes, we shall have to! SO, let us GO!
I’m worn out
that was fabulous! I don’t know if I can go to slee-
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

My, My, My!

I am too.
Me too!
Tears.,, omg, that was MASTERFULLL. gonna miss president Barack obamam and I’m Canadian.
Sorry PRESIDENT BARAK OBAMA. tOo emotional.
Darnit I was hoping Michelle and the girls were going to come out, but I guess it’s the ceremonial passing of the mantle
Remember, Malia is in Spain now. Also, it may have been to emotional for POTUS. Did you see him tearing up at the end of his speech as he walked from side to side on the stage. If only Michelle and Sasha came out, I bet he would have lost it.

He is going to be Ambassador to some distant land. Or that is not possible?
End of an era. And what an era it has been.

Wow, i’m such a basket case now I don’t how I’m going to survive our illustrious Prez and magnificent First Family’s ride out across the horizon come January. What a privilege to bear witness to his masterful leadership of our great country.
I’m with you there purpleshoesla. I am a basket case. I was sobbing through most of the incredible speech.
That was a sweet moment after PBO’s speech & Hillary walked on stage & they walked off together. Handed the baton. Haven’t see that before.
I broke down.
I had to take a walk to allow my tears to flow. It’s impossible to put into words how much I love and respect that man. We have been so blessed. Now we much work to insure his legacy lives on.
I am off to bed. Not sure if I can sleep, but I have an early, long day tomorrow. Good night.
This! This! This!
“It’s impossible to put into words how much I love and respect that man. We have been so blessed.”
Good Night Marilyn. Rest well know that Barack Obama is STILL President of the United States. 😘
It really wasn’t a surprise to them. My local ABC scrolled a banner that Hillary was coming up next.
I still became emotional when they hugged
It was a wonderful surprise on CSPAN and just made me cry even more to see the love and affection on Hillary’s face for President Obama.
Yep. No warning at all. Loved it!
That was a speech that will go down in history.
What a man!
NW, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I felt like Chips was with you as we traveled from new post to post. You did good girl ❤
ooooo could someone post that song that has that line in it “what a man, what a man” please?
The highest of compliments.
Thank you so very much, GGail.
‘Nuff Said. We feel the same way FLOTUS!

We gladly share this wonderful with kindred spirits. Thank you for show our POTUS your love and respect. He is truly, truly the greatest of men.
That right there is what I guess you’d call typing through tears. Sorry for all the typos, etc.
{{{Meta}}} no apologies necessary; we totally *get* it! 🙂
Pleasant dreams to you tonight!
Right back at you, vc!!
😉 #Obamasfault I’m up so late listening to political speeches – something you’d never have seen me doing before I caught the Obama bug!
No way, not me either. But I’ve been following so incredibly closely for nearly 9 years now. He’s a mighty good friend.
I need to sleep on this…I was sobbing like a baby. I love him. LOVE HIM. My heart was filled with hope, brimming with pride and aching with the thought that his time is drawing down….grateful to live in the Age of Obama. xoxox
(((huggs)))
Oh df, me too- all that you said.
amazing listening to the generous praise of the President….smh….
I meant from all the pundits who never have anything good to say
I’ve been miffed at Axe for awhile with his CNN gig and oddly negative remarks from time to time. But that statement was strong and true, and the emotion that he displayed was called for.
I am all cried out. What a man, What a MIGHTY FINE MAN.
He turns my world upside down …ALL.THE.TIME!!
Oh, and did I say how much I LOVE this Prez?
Hell, even Bill Clinton fell in love with President Obama tonight, LOL!!!
Gail, I saw that too!
🙂
his smile was genuine
President Obama is amazing. Actually, I feel as though my vocabulary does not afford me the ability to state how I feel about President Obama. I’m going to miss not seeing him everyday or most days. This was probably his last major speech and what a speech it was! I love him dearly.

I agree meta.
Bill Clinton is fabulous at simplifying complex things for people, making people laugh.

Night all. Yes We Can.
❤ ❤ ❤
Thank you, DF.
So david, when are you going to leave pundtwitry?
I feel the same, David. I prayed that God would give POB wisdom in his speech tonight as he spoke to all of us, and I do believe my prayers were answer. 🙂
Ms NerdyW, I truly thank you for your commitment and hard work over the past weeks! Your coverage of this DNC convention has been stellar and I don’t doubt that it occasioned a fair bit of sacrifice and some sleeplessness on your part. THANKS!
Good Night TODobots, and the sweetest of dreams to you all!
❤
VC
Thank you, VC.
WOW….I’m still trying to process the overwhelming pride, joy, inspiration, hope, that our President’s speech (and pretty much all of tonight’s DNC speakers) have left me. What a gift to be alive at this time!
I would love to see the Daily News cover for tomorrow. A little off topic, but where is Sandra fluke?
I cherish every day remaining in this year of POTUS.
wow Nancy, you have me crying all over again. Beautifully stated. Thank you.
Every word! Love the Obamas, the Bidens, and TOD forever and ever amen.
Nancie you have made me cry again, too. Thank you!
“He is our hero, our greatest President, our rabbi preacher cheerleader coach therapist buddy brother sister friend and commander in chief.”
This Nancie! 😄
Ohh Nancie, so beautifully said… and I’m reduced to a sniveling heap again. Don’t think the job is gonna see me tomorrow, I need a day to process and collect myself..
ALLLL OF THIS! Yasss Nancie Yasss!
POTUS got so emotional.
Okay we need some music. I sure as hell can’t go to sleep now!
Perfect!
Lawd yes….hahaha… 🙂
LOLOLOLOLOL
Welp. He can #JustStayMad
The best in humanity. I want to watch it again.
I recorded the speech so that I can watch it again and again. 🙂 The music played during his entrance is so nostalgic.
😆
DNC Demagogues!
MSNBC also interviewed this young lady BS supporter and she still hasn’t made up her mind.
Those jarring ugly TPP signs were all over the damn place. So inappropriate and disrespectful! I won’t let it dim my pride and joy.
Yes, they were, Judith. I think anyone who is not affect by the President’s and VP’s words simply has a hardened heart, and probably lives a pretty bitter life. Not someone I would want to be friends with. I’ll take those at TOD any day over the ugly Berners. Love you guys! And {{{Chips}}}
Yeah, cuz that’s all it’s really about in this election, you not getting to hold up your anti TPP sign. Please proceed to have a stadium full of seats.
hahahahahahhaha oh my goodness, PURPLESHOESLA!!!!!! can’t stop laughing at your perfect words.
Glad that they couldn’t
Well what do you expect. You act like a two year old, you get treated like a two year old. Now go sit in the corner until I tell you you can come out!
Hmmm……..ya think???
What are they going to do about it?
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG.
Can we start a GoFundMe account to clean my apartment? HOW DID IT GET SO DUSTY IN HERE??????
I’m now 40min behind. Thank the gods for DRVs. POTUS!!!! I’m SOBBING!!!! WTF. Life, this country, has been better because of President Barack Obama.
Steve Schmidt. I now have a crush. WOW. “A Master Class on American Character.” Thank you. Yes. It was. ok…. back to my giant box of kleenex…..
She sees what we see:
It looks like Tom Perez is emotional as well. I’d be doing the ugly cry at this point
Wow, love this tweet Dudette. I can’t believe that every pundit on MSNBC gave positive comments about the speech, including Nicole Wallace and Steve Schmidt.
Yeh I was sitting there waiting for Nicole to say something to make we wanna smack her. 🙂
Wow, what a beautiful thing to say.
Thank you so much.
co-sign. 😚
This!
I am loving all of these positive tweets.
Can’t believe I’m about to retweet Erick Erickson.
Nawp, couldn’t do it. Faved it tho’! 😄
Love this reply…
Such a beautiful picture….my heart is so full right now…. one of the last times to see him stroll into the White House… can’t accept it… just can’t….unable to can… nope, nope nope.
I know. 😪
I’m going to have to make a POTUS video with this sound track…
One thing I keep thinking, whenever POTUS speaks is why don’t any of the other Democrats borrow his phrase, “Don’t boo. Vote!”? It is so effective, and I think really makes people stop and think. But I’ve never heard anyone else say it.
I love President Barack Obama!!!
I just realized that there is no “tears of joy” emoji. Was going to type out three lines of them.
It is my dream to someday be lucky enough to meet this man and tell him what he has meant to my life.
I will sleep soundly and peacefully tonight for the first time in a long time.
It is with such deep gratitude, Nerdy and Chips, that I can come here tonight. So few people understand how I love this man. I am 62 years old, a battered, scarred litigator, who often has to fight cynicism. For 8+ years, the Obama family has made the fight for this country we love so worth every second.

I am sooooo grateful to have lived in the Obama era. Still taping hoping that I can pick up what I missed to watch many times again in the days to come. But I agree with John Harwood, this was President Obama’s love song to this incredible country.
Oh my everything – what a picture Dudette
Love it.
TRUST ME JOE…THE WAR IIS JUST BEGINNING!
Another excellent application of this great gif!
Bwahahaha! Oh that hurt! 😂
What a day!! Thanks PBO!
Yes indeed!
💃🏾
Ok. this made me giggle thru my tears. Thx Dudette ❤
Teee-heee! It IS a good one!
What a day, what a time! Now try to imagine this experience of Barack Obama’s presidency without The Obama Diary….. can’t do it? Don’t want to even think about it?!! I felt that way about Gene Kelly and Gregory Hines too. Geniuses all.
Yes, they both were!
LOL!
So be it!
I wanna watch again and again and again…
I will def be watching it over and over, but just can’t start that blubber-crying again right now ❤ 🙂
I understand fully.
thanks to media assholes like you.
so humbled by their goodness and courage
This “sweet little old lady” ROCKED!
Not that I’m selling this … but found it funny.
❤️
Found one with his entrance
[Searching feverishly for the video they played before he came out]
Phew! Found it!
Thank you for this Dudette.

You’re quite welcome, cd4b
This is heartbreakingly true.
Yep
Don’t we all know it?
Doubt this will go anywhere, but here it is.
Uh huh! 😄
Howling!!!!!!
🙌🏾
Not good, great! Not great, excellent! Not excellent, MAGNIFICENT!
Amen!
Ha! Only one Joey B tho’!

Ignorance exposed.

SOMETMES…………….WORDS AREN’T ENOUGH…………………….THERE ARE NONE GOOD ENOUGH……………
Thank you, Dudette, for all these wonderful tweets you found for us, and for the beautiful music, especially from PBOs inauguration. A lovely way to cap off an amazing evening.
All my pleasure, cd4b
It is now 2:39 am and I just finished watching the incredible speeches tonight. Of course, Joey and PBO brought me to non stop tears!
I just finished watching PBO for the third time.
Have a great time!

Thank you Bob.
You’re welcome, NCLB, and good morning 🙂
Tell ’em Bob!
My POTUS.
Good morning TOD 🙂
What an amazing day it is!!!
BTW, this is going to be a ‘take no prisoners’ campaign by PBO the likes of which have never been seen in the history of US politics.
Don doesn’t have the slightest capacity to realize just how thoroughly he is going to be thrashed.
Take care everyone … {{{{{Chips}}}}}
Boom!
New post.
