      Congrats, COS!

Hope Hillary chooses someone for VP we can get a little bit excited about, preferably from President Obama’s administration like Tom Perez or Ernie Moniz or Julian Castro.

We need to push her away from what’s on the news in the DMV. The meme is that she’s looking for someone w/ national security experience. I’m hoping that’s a red herring being thrown out there by her campaign. The list was Tim Kaine (VA) and a retired general or something. I’ll leave it at that.

I would hate it if she picked Kaine or that retired general. That would be very disappointing when she could pick a qualified POC as her running mate. She needs to think about who she needs to win in November.

GE magapie, good to see you (joining late, as usual 😦 ).

This truly is my biggest fear — unless Americans prove me wrong and actually elect Trump (think he’s gonna have a complete stark-raving-mad meltdown before Nov).

Over the years I’ve seen plenty of tweets/articles about how voters perceptions during their youth affect that cohort through the years (e.g., lots of youth for Reagan, hence he’s GOP God now).

IMHO, personal behavior in this country gets worse every year — more selfishness, more road rage, etc., and I shudder to think how youth will carry Trump’s message forward that it’s OK to be a rude, lying, corrupt jackass is acceptable civilized behavior.

Saw a TRUMP bumper sticker (on one of those big noisy trucks that seem everywhere now) the other day and thought to myself, “he’s advertising that he’s an a**hole). SMH.

I mean REALLY? What exactly is there to be fearful about when it comes to doing your job? Unless Trump has dirt on them….

Otherwise I think the media is full of it, and using “fear” as a way of hiding behind the fact that they LOVE what he’s saying and deep down share much of his bigoted, misogynistic, Xenophobic world view.

Even if he has “dirt” on you, so what? You’d rather have the country destroyed than face the consequences for your actions? Sure you might lose your job and standing in the community, but you could sure sleep at night. Besides, I think a lot of people might actually admire you for standing up for yourself and others. But no, too much of a pansy a$$, too afraid to not be on tv or whatever. What a bunch of spineless people we now have in this country. Can you imagine these people settling the West, or even coming here in the 1600’s? But then you might be right, hf, they maybe are as bigoted as he is. Arghhh

Excuse my manners. My rant got the best of me here. GM hf, GM everyone. Running late, but I am running 😊

This a million times! Democrats have to stay focused. Voter Registration must be our #1 focus from now until the registration schedules are finalized. After that, our focus must be on getting out the vote, both for the early votes and on Nov. 8. The worst thing we must not do is or assume, or take for granted, that Trump will be easily defeated.

The #2 finisher gave a “vote your conscience” speech. The #3 is skipping the convention IN HIS OWN STATE and withholding endorsement. The #4 literally phoned it in, sending a 90 second video that looked like a Rubio for Senate ad. The last 2 Republican presidents withheld endorsements and skipped the convention. Romney actively tried to stop the nominee. McCain is avoiding the convention. The only previous nominee attending was Dole.
This is now officially a shit show of a convention.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is considering nominating Oklahoma oil and gas mogul Harold Hamm as energy secretary if elected to the White House on Nov. 8, according to four sources close to Trump’s campaign.

Harold Hamm, CEO of Continental Resources, speaks in Houston, Texas, in this April 21, 2015, file photo. Slideshow icon SLIDESHOW
Sources: Trump considering top fracking mogul Harold Hamm as energy secretary
The chief executive of Continental Resources would be the first U.S. energy secretary drawn directly from the oil and gas industry since the cabinet position was created in 1977, a move that would jolt environmental advocates but bolster Trump’s pro-drilling energy platform.

Dan Eberhart, an oil investor and Republican financier, said he had been told by officials in Trump’s campaign that Hamm was “the leading contender” for the position.

Well, if you didn’t think this day could get any worse, it has–dramatically. Trump did a 45 minute interview with the NY Times in which he said we had no right to push Erdogan toward enforcing the rule of law given how bad things are here, and if Putin went after any of the Baltic countries, he would not necessarily give them US forces as part of NATO for defense. He would have to evaluate if they’ve done their share. For someone like Putin, this is how wars start. And of course, he will back out of NAFTA if it is not renegotiated on terms more favorable to the US. http://mobile.nytimes.com/2016/07/21/us/politics/donald-trump-issues.html?_r=0&referer=

He has just made PBO’s entire foreign part of the administration much more difficult, as well as the incoming Clinton administration. Just by putting this stuff out there as the R nominee he is badly damaging our country, and he doesn’t give a shit. I cannot recall a more irresponsible candidate in my lifetime. I am incensed.

A top HSBC executive has been charged with fraud in the US.

Mark Johnson, HSBC’s global head of foreign exchange trading was arrested on Tuesday night. A former colleague, Stuart Scott, has also been charged.

The two traders are accused by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) of using inside information to profit from a $3.5bn (£2.6bn) currency deal.

HSBC said it did not comment on individual employees or active litigation.

However, a spokesman said the bank was cooperating in the DoJ’s ongoing investigation into global currency markets.

Mr Johnson was released on $1m bail following a court hearing on Wednesday.

The US Department of Justice (DoJ) accuses the traders of “front-running”.

That is misusing confidential information provided by a client who planned to convert $3.5bn into British pounds.

It is claimed that the two executives bought sterling themselves before handling the order, because they knew that such a large transaction would push up the value of the currency, and allow them to make money.

Oh, before I sign off (which I’m doing momentarily) I *have* to brag that I’ve been having great fun this week! I stumbled upon West Wing, Season 1 in the Value Village (for $7.99+tax) recently, and Offspring and I have really, truly been enjoying it! 😀 😀 It definitely lives up to all the accolades I’ve heard in this village. We’ve gobble up most of it since Monday, so now I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for the other seasons – way more fun than watching the GOP clown-fest!

      Sweet dreams, everyone! 🙂 🙂

        Hi vc and offspring,
I also love West Wing. I don’t know if it is the same up north, but on the west coast our libraries have all the seasons of West Wing, and other shows, that you can borrow like books. Check it out so you hopefully don’t have to wait so long to see more of it.

Good afternoon, CD. Trust your Thursday is going well [at least well-er 😉 than mine].

We finished West Wing Season 1 today and was very upset at the cliffhanger – how dare they end it at that point!!! Therefore my heart leapt in joy when I saw your suggestion upon signing on; unfortunately my local library doesn’t have it. I just checked. 😦

Life’s still good though – we are trying to decide if we should re-watch Season 1 as it took us quite a ways in to sort out the different roles of the participants. Plus, if we hadn’t watched 4+ episodes per day we wouldn’t have finished it so quickly. 😀 😀
