I just realized what the theme of next week’s Democratic Convention should be! Heh Heh…

In a nod to both last year’s and this year’s Republican Convention, this year’s Dem Theme should be:

Admittedly, straight up gossip, pure speculation, but an interesting take that’s not completely unimaginable given the family squabbling Joy Ann Reid tweeted about.

Dang tho, if even remotely true, how cold-blooded would you have to be to sabotage somebody like that in the most public way? Makes me shudder.

After Jan 20 next year 😦 , @JustinTrudeau is the one world leader to keep an eye on.

You can tell by their chemistry that Justin adores Barack as a leader and mentor, and PBO knows that Justin will carry the torch forward in North America and the world for the next generation.

From last week (so frigging much has happened since PBO’s trip to NATO summit):

Don’t know if you’re a handwriting expert connoisseur (get the sense you might be), but even Justin’s handwriting looks like PBO’s. 🙂

Day 1 of Republican National Convention Was An Assemblage of Supreme Fuckshit

Y’all, what in the lowest realm of hell is wrong with the leadership of the Republican National Convention? And how did they manage to start it off so wrong that I’m already tired of their shit? You can’t even make any of this shit up. The fuckery that has already ensued could not have been written by the best comedic writers of our time.

t’s actually tragic because while we’re waiting to see Ashton Kutcher pop up from behind a dumpster whole rocking a Von Dutch Trucker Hat, these shitgibbons are actually running this country, and their Overlord, the Tangerine Douchecanoe is threatening to open the gates of hell if he becomes President.

IT WAS JUST DAY 1, y’all. DAY GAHTDAMN ONE and things have already hit the fan. I could have written 5 separate posts about the highlights of the lowlights but I decided to do a round-up instead, of 5 of the craziest, most mind-numbing, “We are all in trouble” moments. My sympathies to all the Republicans who have enough sense to be embarrassed right now. The three of you are in my thoughts.

Thanks for asking Gail. I am doing better. My son and family are coming to visit this weekend…..the first anniversary of Darwin’s homegoing. We were with him together at the end, and he said we need to be together this weekend. He is a wonderful man…….like his dad. My counselor said to make plans for this time, and I have. Friends are taking care of me, in addition to my son……we will take care of each other. So, I can’t believe it’s a year, in one way, and yet in another way, it seems like a decade.

However, I do know that physically, I am stronger and healthier than I’ve been in probably two years. I’m taking tai chi to work on my balance…..it’s also lowering my blood pressure 🙂 I haven’t written much recently……I just can’t help going through his last weeks every day in my mind. However, as I told my sister, he had a blessed last few days……so, that helps a lot.

Leslie Jones’ Twitter abuse is a deliberate campaign of hate

This isn’t a harmless prank, this isn’t about hurt feelings or even the sting of a racist comment. This is an attempt to keep us off the internet
    Tuesday 19 July 2016 14.53 EDT

Many on the internet were shocked and appalled when Leslie Jones, star of the recent blockbuster Ghostbusters, started retweeting some of the racist and misogynistic abuse she has been receiving in recent days. But just as there were articles and tweets going out standing in solidarity with Jones and expressing outrage at the abuse, there were those who quickly wrote it off.

Some said the tweets were just mean pranks by kids, others said they were “to be expected” for the internet, even more criticized Jones for supposedly “encouraging” trolls by not ignoring them.

But many other women of color – especially black women – on the internet face the same abuse that Jones is now facing, and we will tell you that this isn’t a harmless prank, this isn’t about hurt feelings or even the sting of a racist comment. This is a deliberate campaign of abuse perpetrated on us to keep us off of the internet, and it needs to be taken seriously.

I remember the first time I noticed coordinated attacks against me. One day, a few years ago, I started suddenly receiving a large amount of hate-filled tweets from people who appeared to be neo-Nazis. Dozens of tweets from people with swastikas in their profile pictures were comparing me to gorillas, calling me a welfare queen, showing pictures of hanged black men and women, calling me every racial slur out there and some that may have just been invented that day for those very tweets.

Yes, I had received racist tweets in the past – at least a few each day, but this was different. This was a sea of hate doing its best to engulf me. Finally, one of my followers sent me a link that explained what was happening– somebody had created a thread about me on a neo-Nazi site. I had some tweets about race that had been picked up by national press, and this neo-Nazi group had decided that this was too much legitimacy for a black woman to have, so they fired up their troops with screenshots of my tweets and information about where to find me on social media. Their goal was to harass me off of the internet because my voice was considered a threat.

Someone has to have the twitter talent to put in a tweet the pictures of comparison between the GOP and the DNC.

(CRONKITE NEWS) — The poll is the first of its kind in more than 15 years and reflects the attitudes of nearly 1,500 respondents in 14 U.S. and Mexican cities from California to Texas.

A majority — 69 percent on the Mexico side and 59 percent on the U.S. side — believe the current presidential campaign is hurting the region, an area that’s one of the most culturally vibrant parts of both countries. Poll respondent Ivonne Gonzalez, 56, of Nogales, Arizona, echoed voices of residents who want more bridges, not walls, declaring:

“I’m not in favor of building another wall,” said Gonzalez. “But our opinions as residents are not taken into consideration.”

      GA DF.

      This is so true.

The number of people who cross on a daily basis between southern US and Mexico borders would blow people’s mind.

Americans also don’t realize that Mexico is the third-biggest buyer of the US exports (after Canada) — but MSM conveniently fail to inform the public.

      • 109 desertflower
        July 19, 2016 at 6:46 pm

People should realize that there are real world consequences for their bluster. Mexico is Arizona’s biggest trading partner! Just sick….the border is safer than it has ever been…but hey, facts don’t matter to some people! We need to vote, and vote out the people that spout this mess….in such HUGE NUMBERS that they can’t come up for air. We need to move forward…and work with our friends and neighbors…

        • July 19, 2016 at 9:02 pm

Was on the phone today with a HealthNet rep in Texas who is located just a few miles from the border, he was saying the same things — (1) border security is tight on both sides; and (2) commerce is good — folks from both sides cross back and forth to shop, dine, and for recreation/entertainment.

I am one of those people. It takes me only twenty five minutes to drive to Tijuana, Mexico from my house in San Diego. I enjoy going to restaurants and cultural performances there.Waiting to cross the border, especially, coming back from Tijuana, can take between 1-2 hours. I don’t want no fuckin wall that will make it that much harder for me to go back and forth to my favorite restaurants in Mexico.I also know that a great many Mexicans come to San Diego to shop and enjoy other cultural events. As far as I am concerned, I think it’s pure lunacy to build a wall between border communities that share so much economic and cultural interaction.

You know that VSB had to weigh in:

    Damon Young, 7/19/16

Admittedly, after being indoctrinated by decades of politician double-speak, colloquialism, and dog-whistling — plus the screen reiterations of these types of verbal machinations on shows like House of Cards and even Game of Thrones — it’s quite refreshing to hear a politician do what Congressman Steve King did yesterday. Even if what he actually said — that no one besides White people have done shit to contribute to civilization — was abhorrent and absurd, I appreciate him saying it. You just don’t get many opportunities to watch someone with an actual job and a title and a staff go full racist on national TV.

Seriously, if you haven’t yet, please watch Rep. King articulate his feelings about “sub-groups.” Witness how he effectively mutates into a transubstantiated version of a Twitter troll with an egg profile. Pay attention to how the rest of the panel stares in abject horror and sheer befuddlement, like they’re watching a rhesus monkey attempting to fuck a head of lettuce. Listen to April Ryan say “Woo” at the 44 second mark, which can totally be translated to “if someone doesn’t take this silly White man back to his shift at the Cracker Barrel right now, blood will rise and fists will rain.” It’ll be the second best thing you’ll see all day.

I won’t say too much more about poor Melania, because every joke worth making has already been made. Instead, I’ll just say that the only person feeling worse than her about her speech this morning is Steve King. All that fuss about the master race. And then, a couple hours later, the Grand Wizard’s wife refutes that entire argument by stealing the words from a regular Black girl from the South Side.

This is so unsurprising to me.

Trump is motivated only by himself, and he still seethes over the WHPC dinner in 2011.

With a couple of exceptions, have avoided MSM twitter today because the #RealityTV farce aka RNC makes me physically nauseous, but have heard on the radio a myriad of excuses for Melania’s plagiarism.

But it seems intentional to me. WHPC grilled Josh Earnest today about any phrases PBO may have EVER used that were also spoken in another speech.

But Melania’s speech had only ONE most recent precedent — introducing a presumptive nominee’s spouse at the national convention, and that’s Michelle Obama’s speech in 2008. You can bet that whoever manipulated Melania’s speech analyzed that speech with the intent for more free air time — week of July 18, 2016 is all-Trump-all-the-time.

    Joel Philip, 7/19/16

Ok wait. I know the title is really weird, but I promise you, this makes sense.
Yesterday, for reasons unknown (actually, that’s not true, we know why) racist trolls came out of the woodwork to completely disrespect Leslie Jones on a level that’s usually only heard of on a site like 4Chan. Except this was Twitter. It got to a point that Leslie, who usually blocks these trolls, decided to leave all of the comments open for all to read so they could see the levels of disgusting acts these pissants were throwing her way. It was literally non-stop post after post of nigger this, nigger that, pictures of apes, calling her ugly; the worst and yet the most uninspired vitriol at the same time.

It got to the point where the hashtag #LoveforLeslieJ was made so supporters of Leslie could counteract these attacks and show love. Now for one, this is directly related to Leslie starring in the Ghostbusters remake that came out this past Friday. Secondly, Leslie has been dealing with beauty & race issues her whole life, so the names and hurtful comments made yesterday were nothing she’s not seen before. But I can imagine the onslaught of them in one day was highly unexpected (special shotout to Twitter’s mods for not doing jack shit about it either).

However the reason I bring up Leslie & the RNC is because of one Sheriff David Clarke from Wisconsin, who presented a rousing speech, if you will, on Donald Trumps’ behalf last night, which got me to thinking after the entire convention gave him a standing ovation: this America always wanted a Black person to look a certain way, speak a certain way, complete a certain task, and embrace a certain ideology in order to be their friend.

Sharing my early voting story from today…

When I went to vote today the Registrar couldn’t find my name. I provided her with my driver’s license and she kept saying, “I can’t find you” or “you aren’t in the system”. My response, “the devil is a lie. You better keep checking or get on the phone with someone who can find me, because I vote in EVERY election.” She then asked me if I had my voter registration card to which I responded, why do you need that? TN law states valid ID. She still said she could not find me and I was not walking away without casting my vote. She then asked me for my SSN which I gave and there I was. I did get to cast my vote. Turns out even though she was looking at my ID, she was typing my name in the system incorrectly. I tell you all this to say, when you go to the polls to vote, don’t let them tell you that you are not in the system without them searching thoroughly. Your vote matters and you deserve to cast your ballot.
