Now we see the empowerment, respect, and inclusion making a difference. President Obama has created a different kind of courage in this country, to speak out. I anticipate this has only just begun. In our state of Indiana voices have been speaking out but being intimidated to stop. Many that see that avoided standing with the President. I hope now the tide will change and even the timid and self serving will feel comfortable speaking out.

Get to Know Mike Pence and All of the Very Bad Legislation He’s Signed
    Stassa Edwards
    Friday 12:20pm

… Pence is a bit of a darling among anti-choice groups. As a member of Congress, Pence sponsored a 2007 bill to defund Planned Parenthood, the first of its kind, the legislation set off a now nearly decade old congressional battle to defund the organization. Pence reintroduced the legislation multiple times until he left the House in 2011. “Let the abortion providers provide for themselves,” Pence told Politico in 2007. “I’d like to continue to be a persistent, respectful voice for the sanctity of life.”

It was a template and an indicator of how he would treat women’s health as governor of Indiana. As governor, Pence signed virtually every anti-choice bill that was put on his desk, including HB 1337, an omnibus abortion bill that a federal court blocked from taking effect in June of this year.

Pence described the law “a comprehensive pro-life measure that affirms the value of all human life.” In reality, it is a deeply invasive law lacking both empathy and reason (unsurprising, perhaps, from the state that jailed Purvi Patel). HB 1337 bans women from seeking abortions based on race, gender or fetal anomaly; it also mandates that women be required to bury or cremate the fetus post-termination. In addition, it required that abortion doctors have admitting privileges in order to practice, a restriction that the Supreme Court recently struck down in Whole Woman’s Health vs. Hellerstedt…

In 2015, Pence also signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). The controversial law prohibits the passage of state laws that “substantially burden” the religious beliefs of individuals. According to the Associated Press, the definition of an “individual” originally included churches and religious institutions, as well as businesses and other entities (RIP Memories Pizza who played themselves all the way to closing).

The law and its passage were a mess. LGBTQ activists argued that the bill would effectively allow business owners to discriminate and deny customers service if they were LGBTQ (or merely if the owner of the business perceived them to be). After numerous companies and organizations, including Angie’s List and the NCAA, announced that they would boycott the state, the Indiana legislature amended the bill, clarifying that it could not be used to discriminate against LGTBQ people.

Pence handled the passage of the bill poorly. He acknowledged that the bill was discriminatory, yet signed it anyway and, in the process, lost quite a bit of cash for Indiana businesses…

About Kim Kardashian’s Receipts and the Damsel in Distress, Taylor Swift
    Awesomely Luvvie — July 18, 2016

There are few times when I will high five Kim Kardashian for anything she does and this is one of those times. Because I’m petty. Lemme give you the quick rundown of what happened.

Kanye West released his “Famous” single and there’s a line in it that says “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous / God damn I made that bitch famous.” Taylor Swift, the subject of that portion, has gone on to publicly say it’s offensive (which it is). But the tea of it all is that Kanye ran these lines by her before he even dropped the song. How do we know? Because he tweeted that he did back in February. But that isn’t enough proof so we got some receipts last night.

Kimberly K-West, his wife, went on her SnapChat and dropped video where we hear Kanye and Taylor’s convo over the phone as he went over it with her. Taylor’s response then: “I really appreciate you telling me about it. That’s really nice. It’s all very tongue-in-cheek either way.”

Taylor hopped her ass on Instagram with a paragraph, doe, talmbout “character assassination.” GIRLLLLLLLL. I’m so over Taylor, and this led me to a rant on Twitter last night. It is below. If you can’t see them, view on Storify.

Because he is the Koch sponsored choice. Rand, Marco, Ted and Jeb were all in the running. Yes, Jeb, to get their dollars funneled their way. I think the Koch’s know Trump is a wild card and cannot be counted on to follow their bidding even if they bought him. He’d just laugh at the “contract” and do whatever was better for himself in the end.

    GE TODville.

Wonder how much the security at RNC is costing, and wonder who is footing the bill?

(We know the answer is “taxpayers,” but wish there were a way to make #UnhingedTrump personally fork over the dough.)

Wonder what the implication is here. Did Chris Hayes think we’d think that of the two parents, the one on the right would be her father? Or maybe wanted to be sure we noted the father’s old enough to be Trump? I, for one, don’t give a hoot who her parents are or what they look like. Hoping not to see any of them after November.

I turned on MSNBC after reading posts about the RNC and thinking I could tough it out. I saw an AA man putting down PBO saying only Donald Trump called him and cared. Prior to that I heard the MSNBC crew talking about a mother of a soldier killed at Benghazi blaming Hillary for it all. I switched the tv off. I do not need that kind of night.
My biggest disappointment was just prior to turning the tv on and seeing a Facebook post of an article and like on it from my niece saying NPR and Harvard agreed that Obamacare was a failure. In reading the short article it was based on a poll and perceived by the poll takers to be a failure. Two different things but lumped under failure without the word perception mentioned in the heading. Then I saw several Fox-like articles all from the GOP perspective and negative about ACA. I know from trying previously that I cannot make headway on convincing my niece anything other than her GOP thoughts. She is highly religious and has been living in the South the last few years. I may have to unfollow her like I did my Brother since I value my health and can feel my blood pressure rise knowing the absurdity of their beliefs. Cable news propaganda has ruined the ability of people to gather facts and make intelligent decisions.
I treasure all of your facts and info gathering and intelligence. Thanks for being here and letting me be one of you. You are MY family.

” I may have to unfollow her like I did my Brother since I value my health and can feel my blood pressure rise knowing the absurdity of their beliefs”

OG, the Lord does not favor us including toxic people in our lives. He offers love and compassion, not false theology. Do not feel stressed about them. Gather with people of your own heart, you will be rewarded. This is a mantra I have learned to live by. After all, we can’t pick our relatives. Peace.
