Let the fun begin…
The Republican convention appears to be facing a rocky opening both inside and outside the arena – inside, from forces loyal to Ted Cruz mulling a procedural fight and outside, from anti-Trump protesters testing the demonstration rules set by the city.
Party Chairman Reince Priebus formally kicked off the convention Monday afternoon, setting in motion a packed day of speeches and official party business including the platform itself.
But on the sidelines, multiple high-level GOP sources in Cleveland told Fox News that officials loyal to Cruz – led by former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and Sen. Mike Lee of Utah – have been bargaining with the Republican National Committee and Donald Trump campaign over procedural changes they failed to secure in last week’s Rules Committee sessions. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/07/18/rocky-opening-for-gop-convention-as-cruz-forces-clash-with-team-trump.html
If you missed this when I posted a few days ago, check it out now, if you are in LA or near LA, this is not to be missed! I sure as heck wish I was able to go!! So exciting, and refreshing, and inspiring!

WH Presser is LIVE, almost Over with Josh "The Voice" Earnest.
Now, back to catching up.
What is it with these people like Baio and Sabato Jr.? You don’t have to be disrespectful because you don’t support President Obama. Why are they like that, unless they are racists bigots.
Not to mention the lack of age diversity, too. Mostly white hair in the place.
Sorry to amk, but I won’t be reporting on the event. I could only stomach about 10 minutes of today’s speeches, even when I muted CSpan. I will say, though, that the place is not very packed with people. Could bebecause it’s the first day, or that many are not attending. Either way the chairs and rows seemed really spread out, and the stands weren’t that full either.
This is the truth. They are also promoting that we are all competing for resources with the “other” and only one group will prevail. The President is trying to instill that there is enough to go around when we stand together. Such a huge contrast.
These delegates had better have their food tested and hire bodyguards to escort them back to their hotels–I wouldn’t put anything past the Trump thugs.
The militant in me who is tired of the struggle, says this is telling the truth! Thanks Yardarm for sending it to me {{{hugs}}}
The way I read it, African Americans around this country recognized that we’re in an abusive-marriage dynamic with white America, a marriage in which killing the Tamir Rices, the Mike Browns, the Sandra Blands, the John Crawfords, the Eric Garners and the countless others is part of the American equation. Until proved otherwise, such as through a drastic increase in the percentage of police convictions for the deaths of black people, black people are slowly coming to the realization that the current system of justice is working as it is supposed to for white America. And that’s why we get pushback when we say, “Black lives matter.” White America says “All lives matter” as a way to tell us, “Nah, kid. They don’t, and they never will.”
And while having a black president in the White House may provide us psychological comfort, one of the earliest exhibitions of white supremacist power in the form of policing came when President Barack Obama had to host a fraudulent and humiliating “Beer Summit” between African-American Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and the white cop who arrested him for breaking into his own home. Once that precedent die was cast, African America was always going to have to be subject to the idea that because police have a tough job, dead Negroes will be a justifiable exchange for letting white police officers go home safely to their families. Just the price of doing business in America.
i did not read all of this…but this is what i say to that…
are we planning to do a Marcus Garvey and go back to Africa….i do not think so…this is our country …and we will continue the fight to make it a more perfect union….
i know that we need to do a tirade..and that is ok….but then we have continue the fight…..because the only thing that will bring justice is political power….political power….i posted some earlier re” Frederick Douglas…
Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them, and these will continue till they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both.
We have NEVER just quietly submitted…and we won’t now….
I kind of disagree. I understand the President’s respect, empower, include alternative and watch to see its impact. The fact that people are claiming their rights, their worth and their voice, across all demographics is, to me, a result of the President’s work these last years. He has instilled a counter message to the abusive marriage one. He is teaching how to have a healthy, caring, working relationship with one another. He does it over and over again and I know its creating change. The change is in the spirit and hearts of the people who have felt disempowered. The great thing about the Presidents’ message is that it is not just a flip of the power over situation, like the Sanders campaign advocated. It isn’t the “Its our tur”n thinking. What the President understands is that real progress replaces disrespect, disempower and exclude with what he is modeling. I know that when people try what he is suggesting their existance will change. They will be blessed by living the life they were meant to live with brotherhood in their hearts and wonder at all they were missing in their fellow men and women before.
Gail, you could add white women, actually ALL women, to that same position. Yes, I am white, and know that being white by itself is a huge advantage. But white women in this country who have struggled years for respect, equal pay, etc are in the same position. For a decade now we have watched all those hard fought gains in 80’s and 90’s go by the wayside. The number of anti-choice statutes enacted is absolutely unbelievable for those of us who fought so hard for the gains.
As much as I despise Trump, I think I despise the litany of women on stage with him even more. That whole Barbie look, women belong in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant, is just heartbreaking after all the years we fought against those stereotypes. It is too depressing for words. Isn’t it ironic that all the abuse Michelle and Hillary took for being SMART educated women but it is just fine to have a porn star as a First Lady and there is no outrage over that. I am not in favor of attacking candidates’ families but the disparity here is unbelievable.
Getting through this week is going to tough, even without watching any of it:-)
By the police, no. The police just leave it to abusive husbands to do it for them, and when women fight back they are jailed for life. But this is not a contest, as I stated I know being white gives me huge advantages. The whole thing is just so depressing on so many levels. I keep telling myself this is the last gasp of a dyeing party and philosophy, but not always sure about that.
Yes, if you are in an abusive relationship. Not by strangers or police, like for Blacks, LGBT, etc. But beaten and killed, yes. And it wasn’t until recently (last 10-20 yrs) that authorities even did anything for these situations for women. Still our situations don’t come close to what Blacks, LGBT, etc., have to deal with on a daily basis.
Though I applaud their courage and the poignancy of their protest, it tends to feed the view that women are to be seen and not heard. ‘Look at our bodies’ is the message conveyed, except to those who already understand the issues.
This is so very true. Not just safer but able to pursue our lives. Once there is a criminal event years worth of hard and constructive effort to come back from something or to build something can be undone and not just for the immediate individuals but whole familes.
…but come on; she didn’t have a backup song? Having produced concerts and events, I know timing sometimes has to be adjusted; a performer should be flexible. Heathen that I am (spiritual; however, fail to bench warm most Sundays…), I’ve always been uncomfortable with that song — it glorifies an affair…
Thank you NW ❤
Thanks, GGail.

Then, it’s not the same

I am Never a proponent of protesters going Natural unless, when I enjoyed seeing the late Prince’s slightly veiled butt cheeks.
