President Barack Obama and French Ambassador to the United States Gerard Araud shake hands during a reception for the diplomatic corps
Knowing little about Gov Pence could someone explain to me why he would give up a likely win (I assume he would be the likely winner of the Governor job in November) to what I consider a certain loss as the VP candidate. He may think Trump has a chance but he must also realise the odds are not good.
Approval ratings in Indiana are in the 40s and dropping. TONS of mistakes. Go PENCE-EY!! No better way to balance out a backwards, fleshy old white man, than with ANOTHER backwards, fleshy old white man!
[And excluding the backwards part I’m one of those so I can say it!!]
🙂 – I’m an old white gal & I cannot image these two old white f..ts replacing Obama/Biden in a million years. Approvals may be dropping but would Indiana vote for a dem President?
Don’t follow IN politics much, but I’ve heard talk that he was not a shoe-in for his upcoming governor’s re-run, and that there was a Democrat who may have overtaken him. Also, a guy like that who thinks he’s big stuff (even though we know he’s lackluster and nondescript and downright ugly-thinking) would have an ego that would tell him he’d get all those spotlights on him, were he to get the nomination. And he’s too dumb to know what’s up, so he’ll just follow his nose around from this point on, hopefully to his total detriment as a politician, come November. And then he’ll go take a corporate job and wonder why nobody’s inviting him to any corporate meetings. Or cross paths with Newt on the book trail. That’s my take!
I agree JOBoomer. Just look what a failed VP run did for Palin. Permanent grifter status, book deals, higher speaker fees than if you are a defeated Governor.
And I forgot to list her TV reality shows. And look what it did for her daughter, too.
It just goes on and on and on. So a pretty good deal for 4 months of being a VP candidate if you ask me.
Well said cd4biden! Ryan has also cashed in for being a VP nominee. Also, many loosing VP nominees go on to run for the presidency. Fortunately most VP candidates on losing sides have not been very successful in gaining the nomination of their respective parties.
Palin seems to have blown the lot & the money has slowed to a trickle. It seems to have taken 8 years for her 5 minutes to be up. A smart person would have saved the cash.
Thanks JoB – I’m thinking running for VP is becoming the in thing for failed GOP Governors – ruin their states and then go looking for another money making gig. Not sure that IN would vote in a dem governor – despite they don’t like Pence.
I forgot to check out the program, but it’s a mistake not to have young dems on it, as you intimated! But didn’t MoM speak out harshly against Hillary during the early part of the campaign? He may not be expecting a slot.
Many young Dems will speak…these are just preliminary primetime speaking slots that will air on the major Nets (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC) doesn’t include who will keynote which is always an up-and-comer too:
for example, this DREAMER will be in primetime Monday:
…also the DNC apparently worked out a deal with my cable provider AT&T-U-verse and created a brand new channel 1213HD that will air the entire Democratic convention commercial & pundit free 24/7 “In Philadelphia, AT&T is also the official communications, video and technology provider for the Democratic National Convention. Attendees will enjoy $23 million in wireless network upgrades installed for the 2015 Papal visit, in addition to new city-wide improvements made for the convention. We doubled LTE capacity in Center City by upgrading more than 500 LTE antennas. And we doubled LTE capacity inside the Wells Fargo Center, along with many other improvements made in the city.”
You have no idea how high in the sky I jumped when that new channel popped up in my guide yesterday snuggled between Fox 1210 & MSNBC 1215.(the only other time they have had a special channel is for the Masters golf tournament 8+ channels so you can watch every hole & an on-demand channel app to watch replays and live scoring).
From their press release: “There will be no commercials or interruptions. Viewers will have access to every moment of convention coverage unedited and free of commentary…. “2016 will be one of the most talked about elections in our nation’s history. We’re proud to offer this service, so our customers can see convention coverage uninterrupted,” said Dan York, chief content officer for AT&T. “Watching these events unfold unedited and without commentary provides a unique perspective.”
Oh my! Thrilled when I read this. Grabbed my remote, keyed in and WOOT, WOOT! Thanks SOOOOOO much for sharing this. 😄😄
This family is amazing. {{{{{Chips}}}}}. Miss you and hope you are healing. Thanks to NW and others for keeping us going.
When situations like Turkey and France happen it makes a difference in how a President responds. I have no doubt that President Obama will handle this strategically and diplomatically. I also have no doubt that Hillary will handle it the same way, but Trump, I just don’t know. Trump could tell me tomorrow is Saturday, and I’d still have to wait and see for myself. I’m not going to sit up here and try to act as though I fully understand what’s going on in Turkey, but I know one thing, I want my President to know. I want my President to be able to use every tool in the toolbox to figure out this situation. We are living in complex times, the globe is ever changing, allies become enemies and vice versa in the blink of an eye. Now is not the time for fools.
Don–I wish I could take your last line and imprint lapel buttons, t-shirts and bumper stickers with it. “Now is not the times for fools” should be on every Democrat’s list of top comments when reaching out to voters. It should be the last thing we say to voters on our final GOTV calls. With threats around the world and split second decisions to be made, we can’t afford to willingly choose a fool to run the country.
Just got back from a peace rally and march that was an attempt to bring community and mutual respect to a world that appears to many to be torn apart by hatred. It was a commendable effort supported by both Democrats and Republicans, but in no way a hard hitting look at who was generating the tension or how the easy access to guns was exacerbating a volatile situation. The police presence was very friendly and the mayor and a media crew were on hand. There was also a very prominent voter registration table. The march through the streets drew a lot of positive support from people who honked horns and crowded their front porches to show their support. The good news is that people are rejecting the hate and are deeply offended by the bigotry and maybe some of them are figuring out that it’s up to each of us to make a difference. . At one point in our march I walked with an adorable 13 year Latina who told me about her big ambition to win a basketball scholarship one and go on to study math. Then a baritone from the local AME church walked beside me and sang me the song that got his wife to marry him. It isn’t often I get serenaded when I walk down the street.
Tell me this “LIVE” on MSNBC next to Brian Williams’ face (he seems to have returned again) is really a replay. They have Brian working morning, noon, and night now – so others can grab a weekend – and he hasn’t figured it out. Almost starting to feel sorry for him.
He just said “Middle Each,” not East, so I think he’s beyond tired.
Well there are quite a few on the eastern coast of Canada – if I remember correctly from my vehicular tour there a few years back. I don’t mind sharing (says the chick who stayed in the hotel while the rest of her party toured lighthouses).
If it’s even possible, he’s 100 times more out of his league than any of us thought in the beginning. He had to get rich, so he could pay people to tie his shoelaces. He has no human skills, I swear. Hell, he has no animal skills, either. Just a big ugly blob of ugly.
My heart goes out to Chris Christie, this guy was a good soldier and he deserved better. I picture Chris Christie waiting in the foyer of Trump’s Manhattan apartment. Trumps comes out in a bathrobe and asks Chris Christie to have a seat, Christie senses something is wrong and bam! Trump tells him he’s going with Pence. Christie puts his head in his hands and Trump tells him to cheer up. Christie looks up at Trump with tears in his eyes. Trump gives Christie a playful jab on his chin and says “who’s my guy”. Trump stands up and a lets out a fart and looks at Christie awkwardly and rubs his stomach and mumbles something about meatballs and spaghetti and walks away from Christie. Before he’s out of sight Trump turns around one last time and says to Christie “who’s my guy”, Christie gives Trump a faint smile and says “I am”.
Don’t know what kind of racket you and AMK are running…but thanks for giving him a shout out for the same story I posted an hour & half before he did…..smh 🙂
“I was going to say he could be secretary of transportation, but that probably wouldn’t be a very good thing for him" https://t.co/ybOKRrhRqw
I just like to “sit” on the sidelines and watch you and AMK “go at it,” apparently in your competition to be MY “BFF” (which I just learned). I “see” good things in both of ya – 🙂 🙂 🙂
Oh, Don, I just fell over after reading that. Unfortunately, I think you nailed it, but – fortunately – made it hysterical. Also, I think you might wanna offer up some of your scripts to Hollywood – they’ll love ’em, too. “Who’s our guy,” they’ll say! 🙂

(b) I wonder if anyone else has speculated about another possible reason for HRC to choose Sen Kaine namely => to make an open senate position for the Clintons’ dear friend Terry McAuliffe. wouldn’t he be able to run for it since VA governor’s serve 1 term;
If it is Kaine, McAuliffe will pull a Manchin. As gov of W.Virginia, he named a promising, young, loyal fella as a place holder to replace Byrd, until the special election…. and then run for the seat and have your Lt. Gov. set up to replace you as Gov.
Remember Senator Carte Goodwin, D-WV?
“A date for a special election still needs to be set, but it could occur as early November 2. Manchin himself has expressed interest in running for the seat. Goodwin, a 36-year-old Democrat, served as Manchin’s general counsel from 2005 until 2009. He is a lawyer in the Charleston law firm Goodwin & Goodwin. “My responsibility (is) to work hard every day to maintain the trust of the people of West Virginia,” Goodwin said. “My sole objective will be to make West Virginia proud. … I’m excited about the challenge. I’m looking forward to it.”Manchin characterized Goodwin as “fiercely independent.”Noting that Goodwin will become the youngest member of Senate, Manchin said the appointment is a fitting way to replace Byrd, who was the chamber’s oldest member when he died last month at the age of 92. We have “passed this torch to another generation,” he declared.”
At least he was a senator longer July 16th-Nov 15th than Ted Kennedy’s replacement Paul Kirk Jr. Sept 25th- Jan 20th!
Yup! I’ve never understood that about people, Dudette. Guess they just have a strong need to prove to everyone they are right, without understanding they are giving away the store.
Thank you NW!!!
Looks like the President’s weekend is going to be filled with unscheduled business!!
This ain’t gonna end easily …
Congrats Bobfr. We posted at the same time. 🙂
Thanks for being first and for sharing valuable information. What a mess!
Thanks NW for everything you do.
Thanks so much, COS.
I just knew I would be straggling in. /waving- Hi Bfr, Hi COS./
Good evening VC and COS 🙂
The President’s Day ……. has no end in sight.
No idea how he keeps this up VC – probably as well that there are term limits
Definitely. Can you imagine that Dubya might have squeaked in for a 3rd round? 😦
Had to go out for lunch vc (as you do 🙂 ) – I was wondering how Trump would ever survive it – fortunately we will never know
Honestlly, I doubt Trump is thinking ahead beyond how he could manipulate this situation to his financial benefit.
Hello TOD!
Congratulations Mr. Bobfr.
It’s good to drop by in the neighborhood.
I pray that is well.
Knowing little about Gov Pence could someone explain to me why he would give up a likely win (I assume he would be the likely winner of the Governor job in November) to what I consider a certain loss as the VP candidate. He may think Trump has a chance but he must also realise the odds are not good.
Repubs have faith in their party faithfuls. Remember how shocked Rove was with 2012 results.
Dream on – as they say

I agree JOBoomer. Just look what a failed VP run did for Palin. Permanent grifter status, book deals, higher speaker fees than if you are a defeated Governor.
Yep. Newt hasn’t said anything coherent, nice, or true, in decades, and he’s still getting the gigs. Ugh.
And I forgot to list her TV reality shows. And look what it did for her daughter, too.
It just goes on and on and on. So a pretty good deal for 4 months of being a VP candidate if you ask me.
How do they live with themselves?

No speaking slot for MoM and other young dems in the dem convention ?
I forgot to check out the program, but it’s a mistake not to have young dems on it, as you intimated! But didn’t MoM speak out harshly against Hillary during the early part of the campaign? He may not be expecting a slot.
when bs I-am-not-a-dem can find a spot, so should MoM.
Oh yeah – forgot about that. (Plus I like MoM so much better, at this point!)
Sorry to ask but who is MoM?
Martin O’Malley — hasn’t been seen much since he suspended his campaign, from my perspective!
Campaigning for HRC in New Hampshire tomorrow, JB 🙂
It’s embarrassing, sometimes, how far behind I am on the news. Thank goodness you help me out, LP! 🙂 🙂
I was always taught to respect/help out my elders, JB :???”
Oh, I know what you’re doing, LP. (And I love it!) You always make me laugh – no matter what!
P.S. blame it AMK, that fool is clueless and sent you down a wormhole to begin with 😀 😀 😀
And I also know how you and AMK joke around, so I’m still smilin’. 🙂

OMG, that’s great. NO commercials, YESYESYES. For people who have cable, that’s a huge way to go. So AT&T did something good, wow.

Fabulous! Thanks for the ht!
There will be numerous speakers each night. The list is of the headliners only.
In 2008 at the Dem Convention there were many speakers on each day before the main speakers. I am assuming it will be similar.
True …

Ditto. This also is basically what Wendy Sherman said tonight on Chris Hayes, not for those who don’t know what’she going on.
I totally agree. I need that last sentence in a tweet. Please!

Thanks for the eyewitness report, Jackie. Sounds positive.
Sweet. Thanks for the report, jg.
Thanks for this, any progress is so welcome.

So beautiful.
Hi Don. I notice you’ve been on a roll today. 😀 😀
Yes, it’s a beautiful pic.
Beautiful. All my adult life I have wanted to live and tend a lighthouse….
Live IN and tend a lighthouse:)
Well, why haven’t you? 😀
no lighthouses in AZ:) Maybe one day….I’m not dying here…
Well there are quite a few on the eastern coast of Canada – if I remember correctly from my vehicular tour there a few years back. I don’t mind sharing (says the chick who stayed in the hotel while the rest of her party toured lighthouses).
Hope everyone enjoys their weekend TOD. I’m heading out to club 😎
has the ugly mouth spoken yet? #turkey
He’s trying to get up to speed on the topic. Could take months. (Yuck.)
Years – if he even has the capacity to get up to speed on any country including the USA
Smile break:)
