Morning. Nerdy, I’ve been blown away by the power and intensity of your posts. Sometimes what’s happening around us and in our lives is too much to take and we have to retreat to a quiet corner to process it all.

Thanks, Nerdy! I should not be up yet. Got awakened by a nightmare. I am so lucky. It was just in my head. Too many families cannot wake up from their ongoing nightmares. Racism in this country is a 24/7 nightmare for too many of my fellow Americans. Bless you for shining a bright light in the darkness.

Hugs to you, Judith! We all need hugs getting through this – on all the various levels of our experiences – but we will get through this.

When we understand and appreciate fully in our hearts that PBO can’t run again and it’s unfair to even wish it for him, then we have to embrace the candidacy of Hillary Clinton with all of our hearts. No, she’s not President Obama and no, she may never rise to his heights of rhetoric and awesomeness, but right now she’s standing between us and the utter darkness and horror of a Trump presidency. The combined forces of reactionary right wing politics and the US media are working against her, not to mention a massive level of ignorance and bigotry among American voters. She has only us to spread the world–not just for her, but for ourselves and our children. President Obama–ever the gentleman and man of compassion–talked about “teeing great things up” for the next President and he did not mean Donald Trump who will come in with a baseball bat and shatter everything in sight, including our democracy. It isn’t enough to just vote for her, we have to work for like our lives depended on it.

gm Jackie – you have said this perfectly – the world is depending on people like yourself to keep Donald Trump well away from any political power. If you remove the GOP/media harassment of Hillary Clinton & the non-stop talk of Benghazi and emails, there is nothing negative there, she is an extremely good candidate with the knowledge and experience to be a good President.

I don’t think I’ll see anyone approaching President Obama in my lifetime, but sadly accept he cannot be there forever – I do sometimes wish you had a parliamentary democracy – when he could run for as long as he wanted.

What is Ruth Bader Ginsburg thinking?!

    …………………………………

I see a woman who endured incredible sexism well into her professional career, warning the public about a politician whose sexism would make Don Draper uncomfortable, and who promises to restore a more patriarchal order. I see a Jewish woman with living memory of the Holocaust who is more likely reacting to the normalization of neo-Nazi propaganda than pandering to Notorious RBG readers.

One advantage we have here is that media is not monopolized by any one. There are umpteen ‘news’ channels and any pol can get invited into one of them and they will gladly help him/her take down their competitor channel who refused access. fucking murdock tried to enter here a few years ago but the govt told him to go fuck a rat.

I have had to turn over something outside of my control. I am semi estranged (working on detachment with love all the while) from my daughter in law because I dared to bring up Ferguson when it first started. They live outside St. Louis. She decided, I think, that I was unacceptable since then. Now I have my first grandchild and she’s the mom. I brought my children up with tools to talk about equality and they have never shown signs of forgetting that training. Their friends are diverse and close. Now I have to contemplate what will happen with my little grandson. I hope my son is the one to stand for justice and peace, respect, empower, include. This ad made me think of that little guy and what I would love to say to his mom but know would fall on deaf ears.

    Why are we not surprised?

In rap sheets on the three top possible Trumphead picks for VP, MSNBC lists under Newt’s: “Big Fan of Zoos”

PBO was community organizing the hell out of that meeting; from the seating arrangements “organized diversity”, to creating an atmosphere of informality and trust (all voices heard and respected), to directing the conversation, to sitting for long periods just listening, to giving them their marching orders (5 very distinct goals). It is on occasions like these that I laugh with my more than usual scorn at those who used a derisive tone when referring to PBO as a community organizer as if that role disqualified him to be President and CIC. This ability and experience is one of the main reasons that he has been so successful on the international stage and here at home.

PS The info. on the meeting came from an article from the Washington Post.

I also read it was one of the longest meetings the President has ever had like this. Four and a half hours or something, Bless our beautiful President and everyone that works with him. Bless our community here and everyone that manages it and contributes to it and visits it.

If anyone in the media talks about it – found this one from the same source. Hillary has to fight not only Trump but also the media which gives him 24X7 coverage while all Hillary gets is Benghazi, emails and Bill’s adventures. Does the media really want Trump to win – they think this will be good for the US?

        • July 14, 2016 at 11:21 am

The media in America is a cynical propaganda machine whose only motive is money. They are owned by RWNJs and are obviously pulling for Trump ratings bonanza for the foreseeable future.

Maybe they thought they saw Trump ads due to the free press interviews, phone calls in, and broadcasting of complete Trump rallies etc. While yes Hillary had to spend money and run ads for anyone to even see anything other than negative Trump accusations about her. So now the media is pushing that Donald spent no money and Hillary spent lots on media ads. How despicable!

Only up side is that Sec. Clinton’s message is well thought out and professionally prepared. Trump assumes all he has to do is phone it in. He is such a narcissist and so cheap that he thinks he’ll wing this. We’ll see what kind of character and approach will prevail. I think I already know because I’ve seen the President operate for these past seven years.

In so many words, the Trump convention is aimed not at building a broader coalition but on a relentless hammering of the things that get the base of the Republican party – roughly 20% of the electorate most fired up. Just as Trump’s campaign has been a paean to White Christian America and rumblings for revenge at its passing, the 2016 GOP convention seems set to cast its eye backwards, a bridge to the 19th century.
