Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful!
That’s great Serena.
Oh, dudette, this is such a powerful reading by Serena. Thank you so much. What an absolutely extraordinary woman!!!
I got chills. Congratulations Serena (and Venus).
Wow! Serena was absolutely marvelous reading the great Maya Angelou’s poem: “Still I Rise”;just as she is so powerful and marvelous on the Tennis Court. Thank you so much, Dudette, for sharing this with us. We can always count on you at TOD to rise on historic occasions.
Thanks nath! Her reading was so moving. Just perfect.
This makes me sick. All of it.
We have the Strength of Kings and Queens in our wings!
✊🏾

That is fabulous.
The one thing I love about President Obama’s visits to other countries is the palaces and residences that he visits. The architecture seems so grand and stately and regal. I love these pictures.
Nerdy, THANK YOU for this FEAST! I laughed for the first time today. What are we going to do without this man to pick us all up?
Love this roundup Nerdy! Such a refreshing respite from the day’s worries to come and be reminded that we have this amazing man as our President.
Thank you!
Thank you, HF. Serena looks absolutely lovely. This is a celebration well earned.

watching the President deplane…its a JOY
Another basketball game keeping POTUS on board tonight??
What’s the hold up?
🙂
That’s not fair, when I want to stay home and watch a basketball game I’m forced to go to the grocery with my wife, you’d think she’d let me pick out a box of Capt’n crunch for even going with her, but no, it’s either raisin brain or nothing at all.
What is it with you guys and Capt. Crunch? My husband loves that too…nasty stuff. Raisin bran all the way:)
Capt. Crunch is like the Rolls Royce of cereals, once you’ve had Capt. Crunch everything else is just a waste of time.
No. Just no. That stuff is so nasty…
I’m sorry that for whatever reason you aren’t able to enjoy what might possibly be the best cereal to have ever been made. Capt. Crunch is more than a cereal, it is an experience, it puts other cereals to shame with the possible exception of Frosted Flakes. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying the Frosted Flakes can rival Capt. Crunch because Frosted Flakes doesn’t have the consistency, it doesn’t have the quality control of a Capt. Crunch. I’ve had great boxes of FF and good boxes of FF, but what sets it apart from CC is that every box of CC that I have ever had has been exceptional. And for that reason I must go with CC as the hands down champion of cereals.
Don, you are a treasure in this world. Reading your words here means so much; moving, insightful, heartbreaking — always a gift. This one is the hilarious best. We will have to get a box of C Crunch and enjoy it lifting our spoons to Captain Don Crunch.
You mock me! The contempt you have for CC is palpable. I would rather you not get a box; you speak of CC as just a cereal. It is more than a cereal; you probable think that a Mont Blanc is just a pen or that Renior was just some portrait painter. I think I’m going to spend the rest of my days alone, not being bothered.
No, sir, not at all, never! Highest respect, ever and always. 🙂
Bruh! Team Capn Crunch over here! 👊🏾
Jesus, have you never tried Grape Nuts? That’s the very Miriam-Webster definition of CRUNCH. Honest and true. Crunch.
I like Grape Nuts, but they can sometimes be like eating a bowl of pebbles. They don’t hold a candle to Capn Crunch’s sweet, fluffy, crunchy goodness! 😄
Hmmmmm, hard to imagine both crunchy AND fluffy, Dudette. I’ll have to take your word for it. Hee.
Try it! That’s the genius of the Capn! 😄
Always grateful for the level of discourse here. That said, Trix. 🙂
Frosted Mini Wheats
Respect to the Mini Wheats but they bow down when Capn enters the pantry. 😄
hahahahaha
Meh!
My God….look at how the police are armed against unarmed citizens..We Are Citizens of the United States…We are not the enemy
OMG! I thought the cops learned NOT to do this after Ferguson! What is wrong with this department? They are the ones inciting a riot!
Totally disgusting ….
Thank you NW!!
{{{{{{{{{Chips}}}}}}}}}}
Take care TOD!
I can’t even…
HOLY JESUS! What is this!?? What OTHER place will now hire this person that SHOULD NEVER BE A COP!! This is nuts…I hope she sues the shit out of that police dept AND him!
He should be in jail for making threats is where he should be.
zaklee
What is this if it isn’t evil. Racists evil, and to think he is a cop. All cops are not good.
FACT ….
Yes WE Can
What a brave and magnificent woman. I hope this image makes the history books.
As do I, JackieG!!!
And, I think it is well on its way to doing so 🙂
God bless him, always.
Dudette, I remember that night so well it seems like yesterday. He spoke in the rain in Virginia toward the end of the 2008 campaign shortly after his grandmother died and some of that rain included tears.
Thank you for this Dudette. I love having access to the deep knowledge and details y’all bring to TOD. It’s a beautiful encyclopedia of POTUS’s work and world. Treasure.
Same goes for you Nancie! 😘
🙂 Adorable!!
cute.
And I still wish PBO was not going to Dallas. Apart from the images it brings into focus, why is a police death any more memorable than the death of all those killed for no reason by the police. He should not have to be the mourner in chief. Congress should be out their mourning for all those their lack of action have killed.
I’m with you 99. I’m terrified of PBO going to Dallas.
I think I will stay away from the media for the time of his trip, we can breathe again when he is safely back in the White House
Okay.
I’m glad Pres. Obama has been invited by the mayor of Dallas to do this. Only he has the compassion, wisdom and skills to bring healing. At the same time he can highlight the reform that has already been done by Dallas Police Chief David Brown.
Spot on, Bill, I can’t think of a better person to lead the healing.
from bj, an iconic pic.
Don’t know who took the pic, but at the very least it should be on the cover of TIME.
Yup. The provocation, the over reaction and the aggressiveness in one pic.
Yes. Her fragile beauty, her total lack of being able to instill fear, thus showing up the wall of fear that greets her with a hand tie. Because they can.
The real resistance in this pic is in them – not her.
I see a Queen, gazing with quiet strength, clothed in elegant simple finery, serene and in charge of herself and her spirit and her world, and I see the overwrought, overdressed, robot-meanie trio bowing to her, as if going back into a curtsy. The row in back staring in awe at her dignity and fearless tranquility. Impossibly beautiful moment from the ugliness on display.
Queen is exactly what I was thinking Nancie. I thought of Queen Esther going into King Darius to petition for her people. She went not knowing if he would accept her presence or banish her. This young woman is Queen Esther with her head held high, and those “men” are afraid of her…..they are the ones covered up with all sorts of protective gear…….they are the weak and the pitiful. She is the strong and graceful.
I just sighed on that, Nancie. I just sighed. Thank you for those beautiful words to describe the new Queen.
Thanks go to YOU, Ms. OBoomer, for your magnificent moving eloquent and lovely poems. The latest one today? Breathtaking. Your best ever and the bar is high.
Sweet! Thanks so much.
There are a few similar around. One at the NY daily news is noted as Max Becherer/AP . I thought I saw another marked reuters but can’t find it. Someone is going to win an award with one of them. Amazing courageous woman.
Thanks for finding those … it justifies an award – in my book! There’s always at least one person who will stand up to negative power throes, individually, representing everybody.
She has earned her place in history & I am sure will meet POTUS before too much time has passed.
This is what courage and grace under fire looks like. What a beautiful, bold and brave young woman, standing erect for justice and basic humanity! Thank you so much, AMK, for sharing this “iconic pic.”
I don’t know if you could find a greater juxtaposition or contrast of who is involved in this struggle: An unarmed young feminine woman in flowing summer dress standing tall and guys who think they’re so tough, who are wearing the weapons and garb of war crouched in attack. I mean they’re dressed like cartoon characters, really. Except they’re real people on a real day in a real situation. How much did all that crap they’re wearing cost the taxpayers? It looks like they’re prepared for a nuclear war. I bet they couldn’t wait for the moment when they could wear it. It’s so utterly sickening.
Looks like our own Tianamen Square moment of shame.
I have been keeping clear of the news shows and all because this s the time when they will dig up idiots like Rudy Giuliani and others who will try to blame the President for those officers being kill in Texas. It just piss me off how some people think that you can’t question police officers. If you do you must be against them. If you can question any other profession you ought to be able to question police officers, there are bad police officers, just like their are bad everything else, including human beings.

Is there any statistic on white cops killing POC and vice versa?
Somewhere today – maybe on twitter – think I saw a comment that those statistics are very hard to come by … that will probably be changing, now that light has hit that fact! Of course, this isn’t the first time that’s been exposed, so we shall see.
I’m sure the FBI has those statistics somewhere, companies and corporations wouldn’t be able to make money if they weren’t able to chart human behavior. Criminologist chart human behavior, and seeing as the FBI is the biggest and baddest law enforcement agency probably in the world I’m sure they know when police kill or are killed.
They have not existed which is part of the problem, there has been no national database of any kind of police involved shootings. If I remember correctly, in one of the bills that PBO got through at year end, perhaps 2014, there was a requirement for the establishment of such a data and a requirement for the locals to report. But at most it would only be one year old if that.
I refuse to believe that those statistics aren’t kept somewhere. I believe what you are saying, but of all the statistics not to keep that one should have been the last to go.
“Should have been the last to go.”
Unless you don’t want anyone to know the truth about your department, and then no one tabulates the shootings. Thus the need for transparency.
Did someone mention President of Swag?
NerdyWonka NerdyWonka: the greatness and generosity and brilliance of your work here and on twitter and in the world cannot be measured. She looks beautiful…
After Leslie Jones took to Twitter to lament no designers wanted to dress her for the Ghostbusters premiere, Christian Siriano came to the rescue. And the end product was worth the frustration.
The Saturday Night Live star turned heads at the event in Los Angeles on Saturday in a red gown with off-the-shoulder straps and a high slit. Jones accessorized with silver heels and a statement necklace with no shortage of bling.
The comedian knew she wanted her look to be a bit different than her normally casual style.
“I knew I wanted to be ‘sexy,’ and show off my body a little bit,” Jones told reporters at the premiere.

When does ghost busters come out?
This Friday
She looks stunning! I’ve seen her on SNL, but this is my favorite:
I love this commercial.
🙂 Makes me laugh every time!
I think the Governor of Louisiana and/or the AG Lynch need to tell the Baton Rouge police force to stand down.
I have seen more than enough.
police should know that the more they use hard tactics to prevent people from protesting peacefully, the more angry people will become.
with emotions so high already, a show of force means that this can’t end well
I thought this Governor was supposed to be the anti-Jindal, at least that was his selling point.
He is, but hasn’t been in office long, has a huge financial mess to clean up and I don’t believe he has any prior political experience. What he should do is declare a state of emergency and send the national guard in without riot gear, get the BRPD out of there. They are making things far worse.
That sounds like a good plan, but I’m sure he has someone advising him, at least I hope he does.
the sane voices need to take charge
Amen to that
Now that’s some diversity right there.
Badassess one and all! Go Ladies! 💪🏾👸🏾🙌🏾🇺🇸
That is the coolest ad. I will be passing this around.
Wow!
my president is looking very fine 🙂
😍
GM TODville.
I think everyone on Twitter has seen the iconic photo of the regal woman in the flowing, yet form-fitting dress exercising her Constitutional right to silent protest when confronted by cowering men loaded down with weapons of war.
This struck me as the kind of story that would be at the top of the Daily Mail UK homepage, which it is now (1:15am EDT).
Article says she’s a 28-year-old nurse from NY:
Background on the photo and photographer:
And another photo from Baton Rouge taken by the same photographer:
Forgot to mention that the officers in the photo are Louisiana State Police (which seems so weird to me — I know TX has Texas Rangers because of their history, but don’t understand the need for state police — CA has the Highway Patrol, but they only have authority on highways and freeways here), not Baton Rouge PD.
Yes.She.Did!
