Okay, I listened to the first portion (10mins?) of HRC’s, and I think I’ll settle for reading the recap from better listeners here in the village. I simply cannot get involved in this delivery (especially with the frequent name……..).

I figure many won’t agree with me, but I wish (for this first joint campaign effort at least) that Hillary hadn’t included so many mentions of DT. I wish she had focused instead on her major talking points.

Hi Jojo, nice to see you.

Yea, I somehow feel that on the campaign trail if HRC leads with *her* policy messages and shows the care and thought she has put into them, the contrast with Trump will be evident. In fact IMO if she does mainly that well enough the link with, and continuation of, PBO’s accomplishments would also be evident. I personally see little merit to HRC letting DT set sound bytes (woman card etc.) for her – at least not this early in the upcoming segment of the larger campaign.

            July 5, 2016 at 6:24 pm

But you are onside vc – Sec Clinton is speaking to those who have thoughts of voting for DT. It needs to be printed on their foreheads what Trump is/has done. The media is non stop what Hillary has done/not done.

              July 5, 2016 at 6:51 pm

First, I must say I’ve never run a campaign in my life so this rant is really just gut feeling. But hey, didn’t Dubya govern with gut feeling. ๐Ÿ˜‰

In truth, TS, so far what makes me uncomfortable about this current approach of HRC, is that it suggests DT has forced her into using a disjointed manner of delivery. Given the fact that he is a sound-byte kind of guy, I think she needs to take the time to say specifically what she envisions herself doing as president by sharing *her* ‘policy paper’. She has the smarts; she has ideas; she has the history of involvement and of commitment; she has a lot to her resume as it relates to service and government. I say bring it all together as a cohesive platform, then lay it out there in her initial general campaign stopS so everyone can see she knows about that which she speaks. I figure she knows *because* I’m onside, but those who have thoughts of voting for DT may not be/are not convinced. Once she has established (for all voters to see) that she has a cohesive platform, she’ll still have lots of time to start to progressively point out that DT has nothing.

                July 5, 2016 at 6:58 pm

Nothing is what it should be in this campaign. More than ever it is sound bites that can be turned into tweets and rolled across websites and TV. I trust Hillary’s advisers. She does not speak from her gut. She speaks as decided by herself and her advisers. No matter how much she talks about what she can do, has done – the media will report it as Benghazi, emails, Bill c. etc etc. She has to get the positive zingers out there

But I’m down under – so most folks here have a much better idea of what works than I do.

agreed vcprezofan2. And your point is a good one. She should let others do the attacking if that is the route she wants to take and stick to policy. To me that back and forth bickering is beneath the office.

        Hey guuuurl! How *are* you?

Yes, he is. He is such a *natural*! [I was looking forward to this, but from this first outing I’m not too sure it’s a good idea to send them out together. Coming right after her the contrast in style-delivery of content is stark IMO.]

          July 5, 2016 at 4:19 pm

Hey Hon, good to see ya! Feeling much better finally. Still a little nagging cough, but got up and about hung with family last couple of days. Never thought I’d
be tired of staying home in the castle. Guess I’m not a hermit after all. Hope you and son-unit are well.

I’m headed to Sis’ house to hand out DC souvenirs including some music from an up-and-coming Canadian composer I know. ๐Ÿ˜„

I’m glad to see them together. No one expects her to be as great an orator as PBO. No holds a candle to him. He’s there to help her make her case that she’s ready to be President and would be good at it. If anyone knows what it takes to do that job in this time he does and this is why he’s the best person to articulate that. Also this is about solidifying her support among Dems and showing a strong front heading into the convention.

We’re fired up & ready to go!

Glad to hear you’re ‘back on your feet’! Unit and I are doing well, thank you. ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, I’m glad PBO is supporting HRC so obviously, and I wish her success in November. I confess that one of my weaknesses is that I love a good, honest, natural speaker, and clearly Hill is not a good orator so it’s hard for me to not cringe while she’s speaking. Having said that, I intend to shut up (and be scarce) as her campaign solidifies. I watched this one because it was the first joint 2016 effort, and because I had heard here that she had improved over the primary season and I’d hoped I would feel more relaxed listening to her. Anyhoo, going forward, “mum’s” the word re HRC’s campaigning skills from me. ๐Ÿ˜‰

ps: As a TOD-er remarked not too long ago, Hillary nodding her head looks …….. odd. Actually, IMO it makes her look like a little old lady. I wish there was a way someone could – after the rally of course – tap her on the shoulder quietly and bring it to her attention. This is one of those times when it would be nice if someone from her campaign actually checked in at TOD. That nodding just does not look ‘presidential’!

      • 34 carolyn
        July 5, 2016 at 4:32 pm

I think this head nodding is a long standing habit. I noticed women doing this in church years ago, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she nodded when she agreed with what the minister was saying. I know she nodded when she listened to Bill’s speeches…this habit would be hard to break for her. It’s how she agrees with and emphasizes what is being said. Some of you may have noticed your minister’s wife nodding while her husband speaks. An occupational hazard. I do find it somewhat annoying, but not as annoying as Nancy Reagan’s doelike adoration of Ronnie when he spoke!!!!!!

        • 35 vcprezofan2
          July 5, 2016 at 4:47 pm

Honestly, Carolyn, it is a habit well worth her while to break in ensuing months. I would hate to see her in an international gathering nodding her head like a bobble-head toy. An occasional bit of head-bobbing is okay I guess, but she seems to do it continuously, and IMO it really does make her look …… simplistic (for want of a better word).

            Hey vc ๐Ÿ™‚
I’ve seen Hillary during the debates and she does not nod when it’s not needed. I paid very close attention to her debates with Bernie and she held her peace while he spoke. So, I don’t have a worry about her head nodding. It is a sales tacit that has it benefits.

Having said all that, if you had told me at the beginning of my presidency that we could begin the process of making sure everybody has health insurance in this country; that we could recover fully from a terrible economic crisis; that, you know, we could make sure that Iran doesn’t have a nuclear weapon without having to launch a war; that we could restore diplomatic relations with Cuba in a way that didn’t just transform our relationship with Cuba, but has put our relationship with all of Latin America on its strongest footing, maybe in history.

If you told me that we could, you know, extend democracy to a place like Burma, one of the worst, you know, military dictatorships in the world and that I could visit there and you’d see millions of people lining the streets. If you told me that โ€” that you could have gay and lesbian men and women proudly serving in our military without having to hide who they were, or that you could have a bipartisan effort to actually reduce sentences for nonviolent drug offenses have a credible chance of getting through Congress.

You’d tally it up, it’s not bad for 7 1/2 years’ worth of work. And the stuff that has not gotten done, it’s teed up to get done. Climate change, with the Paris Agreement, 200 countries signed on โ€” is a classic example of how I think about my work, but also the possibilities of government and politics.

We haven’t solved climate change because of that agreement, but we have now built an architecture that allows us, gives us a change to, over time collectively, in an unprecedented way, curb the pollution that contributes to climate change. And have we gotten it all done yet? No.

But have we now given the next president, the next Congress, the next generation a chance to solve it? Absolutely.

And โ€” and I’ve said this before: I think of myself as a relay runner. I take the baton. Sometimes, you take the baton and you’re behind in the race, and you’ve got to run a little bit harder to catch up.

Hopefully, by the time you pass on the baton, you’re a little bit better positioned in the race. And I think there is a humility that comes out of this office, because you feel that no matter how much you’ve done, there’s more work to do.

But I think that there is a confidence that well-meaning people working together can โ€” can change the country for the better. I’ve seen it happen.

Yes, yes, the President’s remarks are fabulous. Yes, yes, he’s as fabulous as ever. But gotta admit I got a lump in my throat, because this day is the first day of the many stages of grief we’ll all have to endure, prior to and following his departure from the White House next January. I plan to do what he’d think would be the right thing: Keep Calm and Carry On Post-Obama! Actually, there will never be a “post-Obama” for any of us – at least not for this Obamabot!

JO’B, if I start to think about it, it tears me apart, depresses and demoralizes me and I do know that not only do we have to work like hell to get HRC elected but there are down ticket candidates that need our help, if we’re going to get back the Senate, win seats in the House and have a hope of turning our state legislatures around. So, the only ting I can do is throw myself into it–plan events, register voters, make phone calls, round up volunteers and do everything I can to be sure PBO’s legacy lives on. When it’s all over and the results are tallied and we’ve done our best, I’m going to sit down and cry my eyes out.

I am with you J’OB! In about four months I will turn 71. I feel so blessed to be alive during the presidency of Barack Obama. He is, without a doubt, one of the best Presidents this country has ever had. I am also determined to follow his example of continuing to believe in the goodness of most people. I will not given in to cynicism because cunicism is demoralizing. I commend Hillary for refusing to listen to pundits who advised her to run against President Obama. I will work as hard to elect Hillary Clinton as I did to elect and re-elect President Obama.

          Richard Pryor was profane.

I agree that Brian meant to indicate that he was funny but a comparison to Richard Pryor? Not by a long stretch of the imagination would what POTUS’ delivery today be considered anything similar to a Richard Pryor delivery. He probably googled the name of a black comedian and Richard’s name popped up so he just threw that out there.
