Congratulations, Allison! Have a wonderful holiday weekend, and take some time to call your member of Congress to demand a vote on universal background checks for all gun sales. Some sham vote on a toothless NRA-backed bill is not going to cut it!

Morning TODers. I think the timing of these tweets means that they are aimed at the people at home who need to ask their so-called reps what the hell they’re doing in DC, collecting paychecks and wasting time. He’s also telling his supporters that these are the kinds of questions we need to raise with voters to plant doubts in their minds about those they sent to the House and Senate. If we asked the average voter the question– “Aside from sitting on his/her rear for the last two years taking taxpayer money, what has your rep done?–I’ll bet most people would be stumped for an answer. If all your elected rep does is say “NO, NO, NO” to the President, then it would be cheaper to replace every GOPer with a robot.

    • July 1, 2016 at 9:06 am

      Excellent analysis!

    • July 1, 2016 at 12:32 pm

Great analysis Jackie. I’m lucky enough to have an awesome Rep. He participated in the sit-in and had a meeting the other day about needing gun laws. I’m also lucky to live in California where they’re putting forth new strient gun laws.

Question for everyone; I saw the media bull shit about them making a big deal of Loretta Lynch and Bill Clinton meeting. Which brings to mind the investigation by the FBI of Hilary. Isn’t this a total witchunt considering the former Secretaries of State also had private servers? Any thoughts?

Strict rules in place during next month’s Republican National Convention ban Coke cans, glass bottles, tennis balls and “any projectile launcher,” specifically BB guns, paintball guns and water guns from a broad swath of downtown Cleveland. But actual guns are allowed in public areas of the restrictive 1.7 square mile event zone.

And at least some people traveling to the convention are expected to seek to exercise their right to bear firearms in full view of the public, as allowed by Ohio law, following violent clashes this year outside Donald Trump rallies in cities across the country.

“You can take my string and you can take my duct tape, but you can’t take my gun – it’s open carry,” says Tim Selaty, director of operations at Citizens for Trump, a coalition of groups including bikers and truckers who support the presumptive GOP nominee.

Citizens for Trump, represented by the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio, last week won a ruling from a federal judge shrinking a large event zone in which various weapons and everyday items like canned goods and lumber – but not guns – will be banned.

Donald Trump’s choice to run his campaign in Colorado, a key battleground state, is a veteran political consultant who was accused in the last election cycle of defrauding a top conservative super PAC.

During the 2014 midterm election, Patrick Davis was brought on to help run Vote2ReduceDebt — a cash-flush group launched by an elderly Texas oil tycoon who had no experience in politics but wanted to help elect fiscally conservative lawmakers.

The group quickly collapsed amid allegations of faked campaign events, destroyed records, fabricated expenses and contracts routed to friends, ProPublica reported last year.

The group’s director questioned whether events organized by Davis were all they claimed to be. At an Iowa phone bank, the director alleged a caller admitted they were just “pretending to make phone calls” for the benefit of the campaign’s video cameras.

Davis denied all allegations of wrongdoing, saying he was trying to clean up a troubled PAC. But according to records and interviews, Davis pushed for much of the group’s nearly $3 million to go to organizations run by him or his close associates. He secured payments of about $410,000 from Vote2ReduceDebt to a PAC he founded and helped direct contracts and cash to a company run by a friend.

As predicted on Monday …. bargain hunters romp ….

“On top of that, the falls in the immediate aftermath of the vote convinced many investors there were bargains to be had.”

    Specifically ….

“The FTSE 100 has recorded its best weekly performance since December 2011

After an initial slump in the first two trading days following the Brexit vote, the index of Britain’s top 100 companies regained all its losses by Wednesday and is now at its best level since last August.”

I remain unconvinced that the UK will exit the EU ….

      July 1, 2016 at 4:32 pm

      GA Dr. Bob.

Glad to hear you say that UK will #remain in EU. Consequences of them leaving (as pointed out in one of PBO’s early trips there, when it was described as an island the size of Oregon) will be disastrous for their people — half their trade is with EU, and they will feel the confines of their island if they can’t travel as freely as they want to Spain, Portugal or other welcoming EU climes.

Their leadership is in a shambles (can’t figure out why fellow Tories Cameron and Johnson were on opposite sides of this issue [unless it’s truly rooted in bigotry, e.g. Boris Johnson’s opinion piece claiming that PBO is really Kenyan, not American]).

    Brexit Proponents’ False Promises Crumble

Well, that didn’t take long. Some of the most prominent politicians behind the “Leave” campaign are backing away from the false claims and dubious promises that they made in the run-up to the referendum to take Britain out of the European Union.
The backtracking by Mr. Johnson and his allies has exposed the venality and cynicism of their campaign — unfortunately for Britain, far too late.
