A bit off topic, but such good news, especially for those of us on the West Coast. PG&E will be closing Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant by 2025, thus making California nuclear free!! And the amount of energy it now creates will be replaced by a focus on renewable energy.

And this is especially important to us because this power plant sits right on top of 4 earthquake faults including the infamous San Andreas Fault. We do not need a Fukushima experience in California.

This has been a very, very long struggle to achieve, but it has finally happened. Those working on this issue never gave up, never took their eye off the prize. And, finally, they have achieved their goal. So we may need to keep this story in mind as we continue to again and again and again try to get things like laws about background checks for guns enacted. Never give up!

Fantastic! What glorious good news, cd4biden! Excellent point you make, that I need to hear again and again. There’s the long game, and we must play it with courage and determination and belief in success, even when it doesn’t seem possible. Our POTUS got that a long time ago, and models it daily. I love knowing this, and thank you for shining the light on it.

Good afternoon All of TODville. I finally arrived home at 10am this morning. Just had an extra night in Denver when they cancelled my flight due to weather over Colorado. Because it had to do with weather the airlines offers no monetary help. They do have a package for those of us with no suitcases. Now I remember why I always carried extra toiletries with me when I traveled all the time. I didn’t this time. Lesson for all to remember .
NW thank you for keeping TOD going. Our hearts and prayers are with Chips, her mother and her family. Many of us have been thru this, it is not east, but the blessing that you are with her will always be with you.

Jazizz2, those pictures are so great. What a time we hall had. I will be putting some more pictures on too now that I am back.

Marilyn, so thankful you are home safe and sound. Secret for if there is ever a “next time,” although the airlines are NOT required to put you up, if you discreetly speak with the head of customer relations, hotel, food, and cab vouchers can be miraculously be provided…

I want to express my prayers to comfort you, Chips and your Mother. My Mom died a couple of years ago from cancer and although it was hard I was glad she was at peace joining my Dad. I was fortunate to have been able to spend part of every day with her in her last few years. You will treasure the time you were with her and know you did everything you were able to do for her.

Occasionally when Donald Trump misspeaks, he accidently points the way to a larger truth; a kind of Kinsley gaffe born less of momentary confusion than of accidentally taking a really bad argument to its inevitable conclusion. Just as his inadvertent pledge to criminally punish women who had abortions was immediately renounced by members of his party, even though it was the logical extension of their own policies, so too, his recent push-me-pull-you on gun rights accidentally shed some useful light upon the unbound “guns everyplace” logic of the National Rifle Association.
    .
    .
So here’s the irony of Trump’s gun gaffe: Only the world’s greatest narcissist could claim that each of these unpredictable actors would be rendered instantly harmless by the existence of your own omnipotent self with a gun. That’s how he plans to fix the economy and halt terror: omnipotence. But it seems unfair in the extreme to ask Trump to apologize for accidentally telling that story: It is, after all the logical endpoint of the NRA’s argument that when you—magical, powerful you—become the good guy with the gun, everyone else just falls quietly away.

    http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/jurisprudence/2016/06/trump_exposes_the_nra_fantasy_of_a_good_guy_with_a_gun.html

In Texas on Friday, less than a week after the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history left 49 people at a gay nightclub in Florida dead, Trump spooled out a version of the standard “good guy with a gun” conservative response to modern mass shootings. Thundered Trump, in reference to the patrons of the Pulse nightclub: “If some of those wonderful people had guns strapped right here—right to their waist or right to their ankle … and one of the people in that room happened to have it and goes ‘boom, boom,’ you know what? That would have been a beautiful, beautiful sight, folks.”

Beautiful indeed. Of course there was an off-duty cop, Adam Gruler, working as security at the club that night, who engaged in a brief firefight with the shooter before retreating and calling for backup. And of course there was an armed guard at the shooting incident in Tucson that almost killed Gabby Giffords, a guard who almost ended up killing an innocent man instead of the shooter. But in Trump’s telling, if only bar patrons had all been packing heat, gunfight “beauty” would have ensued.

Eeeek! Wonder if that was around the time I was sitting in the plane on the tarmac at Dulles. My 11:50am flight did not leave until after 2:00pm because of a thunderstorm. The pilot even tried to get us rerouted but was unsuccessful. Naturally, I was glad they made us wait; we could watch some of the rain coursing down the windows and when we did get the okay to take off the flight was extremely rocky in parts. Thank you ever so much, Ms DD, for arranging the weather in such an advantageous fashion – at the start and at the end of our visit, but great walking/touring weather in the middle. 🙂 🙂 🙂

    Mark Cuban ‏@mcuban Jun 8
    1) I expect @realDonaldTrump to try to calm down. He doesn’t have the cash to fund his campaign, he needs to appease donors quickly

    2) he had less than 165mm in cash and falling for a campaign that will cost 750mm or more. He will have to grovel for that cash and will

    3) the real fun/drama will come from all the “hidden” videos from his private fundraisers. He will say what they want to hear. Get ready !

4)the real “index” for this election will be RNC vs DNC fundraising.RNC will need less $ for POTUS but much more downstream to counter Trump

    5) the reality is that @realDonaldTrump will be MORE beholden to donors than @HillaryClinton because his fund raising is so far behind

Articles like these make me nuts. I think they are written to turn off voters, to make them think why should I even bother voting? And, yes, these restrictions will make it that much harder for a Democratic candidate to win the presidency, but it’s not impossible. What these restrictions really do is hurt the down ticket races in these states, and that is the tragedy. But for the Presidency this article is misleading.

If you look at the electoral votes for these 17 states with new restrictions and the way in which these states have traditionally voted in the past, you will see that 11 of these states always vote Republican. So their staying Republican is not going to change anything. Of the remaining 6 states with new restrictions, 5 are traditionally swing states (NH,NC,OH,VI,WI), and 1 is a Democratic state(RI).

Now if you look at the total of the electoral votes for all the remaining states that always go Democratic you see their electoral votes total 233, and a candidate only needs 270 votes, or 37 more, to win the presidency.

There are 4 states that are traditionally swing states (CO, FL, IA, NV), with a total of 50 electoral votes, that are not included in this list of 17 states with new restrictions. If Dems get Florida (29) and Nevada (6) that gives them 35 more votes. So they would only need to hold onto Rhode Island (4) or pick up swing state New Hampshire (4), and they clinch the Presidency. With the large latino populations in FL and NV it is likely they will swing Democratic in this election. The other 2 swing states not already included in these calculations are CO (9) and IA (6). Again, win either one of these states and you will have a Democratic President.

Trump Threatens to Abandon the RNC
Paryt Devastated by Trump’s fundraising start
    June 21, 2016

“As top Republicans expressed astonishment and alarm over Donald Trump’s paltry campaign fundraising totals, the presumptive nominee blamed party leaders Tuesday and threatened to rely on his personal fortune instead of helping the GOP seek the cash it needs,” the Washington Post reports.

“Such a move would effectively amount to abandonment of the Republican National Committee and the rest of the GOP ticket, which relies on the presidential nominee to help raise hundreds of millions to fund a national field organization for the fall elections.”

Ok, so the RNC put out that it was a “false narrative “, comparing Hillary’s cash on hand with Trump’s. That Trump had financed his campaign, and “If he wanted to get that number up in two seconds. He just strokes a check and it’s up. ”

A poster at BJ thinks that this is the RNC running the bus over Trump. Giving the signal to the donors that they will not be asked to give money to Trump. But the RNC will take it for downballot races.

    Hmmm

So suddenly MSNBC have discovered what the media/GOP have created & it seems Rachel is now allowed to call Trump for what he is.
The GOP has created the concept of running for President to improve business prospects/sell books/get a job based on being a presidential nominee. She made it clear that only the republicans do this.

So what Berniebots think was absolutely needed for true democracy, the anti-Trump brigade thinks should NEVER happen because – true democracy.
