Let’s remember what the entire basis of the Trump candidacy is. Trump argues that he can fix America’s problems and make us great again. Why him? Because he’s rich, that’s why. That spectacular, tremendous, mind-boggling wealth is supposed to be proof of Trump’s innate brilliance, his superhuman negotiating skills, his unearthly management expertise. He might not be able to tell you the difference between Medicare and Medicaid or between the deficit and the debt, but he gets things done. If you doubt, just look at the size of his plane.

And now, piece by piece, that image is crumbling.
    .
    .
And while we sometimes overstate the degree to which the management of a campaign is a test of how a candidate would run the country, in Trump’s case it’s an unavoidable analogy. With his lack of experience in politics, people might not have expected Trump to devise the best voter contact strategy or delegate management operation. But if nothing else, at least he should have been able to assemble and oversee a well-run organization and raise a lot of money. Instead, he’s failing at exactly the things he’s supposed to be so good at.

That it is. The holder of that seat seems to always rise to power; however, this is the fourth rep for that district that has been forced from office. IF the holder is HONEST, they face a WELL FINANCED primary challenge (Reps Nix and Blackwell); if, in the course of doing great work and providing constituent services, they cross the path of someone more powerful, investigations are launched (Reps Gray and Fattah). Gray resigned and the rumored investigation was dropped; Fattah probably felt that the shenanigans he was charged with were less egregious than those of some others in congress and he could win based on plausible deniability. His son’s actions contributed to his downfall. Such a shame…

When I was in elementary school we had take cover drills, where we’d go under our desks or sit in the basement with a book over our heads to protect ourselves from an atomic bomb.

      • June 21, 2016 at 8:49 pm

We have them at our school, They’re called “shelter in place” drills. The protocol is that the teacher goes to the door and checks the hallway, grabs any random students and gets them inthe room, then pulls out the magnet that keeps the door from locking and closes it. Then everyone hides in the coatroom and is absolutely silent. We have three a year, I think. They aren’t just for shooters; the one we had that was not practice was when someone in the area robbed a party store at gunpoint and plice thought they might have gone in our area. They caught him somewhere else. The high school had one for most of the day this year because someone texted a threat to businesses that were close to the school. We also had a less serious one when a distraught mother brought a knife in from her car. We locked the doors and kept everyone in the room but kept on with our day. Our principal managed to talk her out of the building and then the police came. I’m as sick about the shootings as anyone, but the drills are for more than just that. Our principal has a great way of explaining it and the children just treat it like a fire drill or a tornado drill. (Despite what it sounds like above, I teach (taught) in a very safe, small, suburban community. Strange things can happen anywhere and it’s good to have a plan. But our children, at least, don’t seem traumatized by it.

Thanks, Mary! I have a special affection for family members that “stand in the gap;” their help often makes great things happen. My Mom’s siblings stood in the gap to open the doors and windows to the world for me. When I adopted my cousins, my HERO Mom stood in the gap for me — her commitment to care for them for three months was extended to a year, then 18 months, and by time they moved with me three years had passed. Had she not cared for them, I’d have never been able to accept the challenging and interesting billets that were offered… Mrs. Robinson was an integral part of making the Obama presidency possible! Love the First Grandmom!

Did anyone else pick up something besides me?

So sorry to hear you have the sniffles… Try chewing a little ginger root; will open up your sinuses quick, fast, and in a hurry! Fortunately, I picked up nothing more than increased fatigue, however, it was worth it…

Sorry about the cold…..I frequently go home from a trip with one. This time I had it the week BEFORE the trip……maybe I was still contagious????? Colds in the summer are especially irritating. Take good care of yourself. They just have to run their course…..no magic meds for colds, sadly enough.

I once asked my uncle, a doctor, about taking meds for colds. He said “They last two weeks with meds, and fourteen days without meds.” So……get lots of rest. I was just knocked sideways by mine. Two days I didn’t leave the house…….which is NOT me!

Loved sitting with you at Ebbitts…..You have an interesting life.

      • June 21, 2016 at 5:40 pm

It’s easy to pick up colds on a plane – all the recirculated air. When I went to France I actually wore a mask over my nose and mouth because I didn’t want to spend 14 of my 19 days sneezing. Increased fatigue? Oh man! I could barely peel myself out of bed to come to school on Monday! But it was WELL worth it!

Did any of you ever play MadLibs as a kid, or with your kids? You know, the game that is a story with certain words left out and in their place is a blank for you to fill in the space. You just read off “noun” or “adjective” or “verb” or whatever it indicates under the space to the other person who then gives you a word for each space. Then you read the completed story out loud to them. Hysterically funny stuff.

Well,Trump reminds me of MadLibs. He is telling the same story but just inserting a different noun or name or incident in the same space each time.

June 21: Astrological Commentaries from Bali. Hello everyone. As it is the time of the Solstice, I wanted to share some observations with you about 0 degrees of Cancer. As a cardinal direction, it is one of the most important of the 360 degrees of the Zodiac. In essence, it points to the concept of “foundation.” It is in terms of the natural horoscope, the most subjective degree of all, occupying as it does the point of inception of the 4th house cusp. This makes it symbolic of the “planted” seed (the Seed of Life Itself is found at 0 Aries). As the embryonic implant, it is the beginning of a process of formation that culminates at 0 Capricorn. In the Christian mythos, we can say that 0 Cancer is the “Christ in you and the ‘hope’ of Glory.” I emphasize the word “hope” for the liberation of the Inner Christ is a hoped for aspiration, not necessarily achieved in one’s lifetime. Yet when this seed is indeed emerged this “hope” is realized at 0 Capricorn (Merry Christmas!), which is known in esoteric astrology as the “Degree of the Initiate” and the Birth of the Christ (which has the same word origin as Krishna, Tsar, Kaisar, and Cesar, so this Birthing is not limited to denominational Christians but literally: open to All).

One of the Father’s of modern astrology, Prof. Marc Edmund Jones when speaking of 0 Cancer says that it may be depicted as: “On a ship, the sailors lower an old flag and raise a new one.” This to me supports the interpretation of the hope for a new beginning but it is for a journey for which we have already prepared; again it is not the new seed (the ship) itself, but the sailing of this ship/seed under a new flag. We should remember that before coming to Cancer (a watery sign), the Seed of Life had already passed through fire (Aries), earth (Taurus), and air (Gemini). The embryo may now enter the waters where is may be further nurtured and evolved.

As I was studying the horoscope of this Summer Solstice (Winter in the southern hemisphere), I observed that these waters are indeed quite turbulent. I cast a chart for Greenwich, England (0 degrees E or W Longitude) at 22.35 Universal Time (GMT) or (23.35 BST–British Summer Time) and found Neptune and the Southern Node, Saturn, Mercury, and Jupiter with the Northern Node in a very tight Grand Cross in the mutable signs in the angular houses. The Sun of course was at 0 Cancer conjunct Venus at 4 Cancer opposing the Moon at 6 Capricorn. This map is totally reflective of both national and international chaos stimulated by moral and religious confusion. Today for example, the USA Congress failed to pass four bills that would limit the sale of guns to people on terror watch lists and other “logical” applications of such laws. These bills mind you were not to prevent people from buying guns (now THAT would be miraculous indeed), it only was to prevent crazy, murderous people from buying them. I can only hope that when 0 Capricorn comes the heart of humanity will finally become initiated.

Two people very dear to me (Laura Nalbandian in USA and Wira Suryawan here in Bali) just had the joy of the respective births of a grandson and a niece. These two babes are astrological twins. May they be instruments of resolution to differing ideologies, religions, and belief systems and may their ships sail forth upon and into Holy Waters. Love and blessings to one and all, AO

And finally, of any political figure in America, Donald J. Trump is perhaps the last person who should be questioning others’ faith.

The GOP candidate’s clumsiness on matters of faith has been a point of concern for some conservative voters before, and last summer, the New York Republican refused to say which parts of Scripture are important to him, saying it was “private.” (Asked whether he’s drawn more to the New or Old Testaments, Trump said, “Both.”)

And now Mr. Two Corinthians wants to complain that “we don’t know anything about Hillary in terms of religion”? Seriously? I don’t expect much from Trump, but for him, there is no upside to picking this particular fight.
