Happy Father’s Day to all who serve as dads in this world. My own father died when I was five years old and there was no stepfather, grandparents or uncles who stepped in. So today, I honor his memory and bless my incredible husband who as been the best and most loving father to our children.
It was good hear that the Clinton’s daughter, Chelsea, safely delivered a baby boy, Aiden, yesterday, June 18. Being a grandparent is one of the most fulfilling experiences on earth and the Clintons have now been twice blessed.

Hillary Clinton and her Democratic allies have invested at least $41 million in commercials in crucial states such as Ohio, Florida and Nevada over the next six weeks, a series of summer broadsides against her Republican opponent. Those messages will be echoed by hundreds of Clinton workers in those same states and amplified by President Barack Obama and other top Democrats.
Trump has made few preparations for contending with that sort of well-oiled political machine. His campaign has no advertising plans and is just now hiring employees in important states. Republican leaders are far from in agreement on how best to talk to voters about the polarizing billionaire, or if they will at all. And Trump is running out of time: Early voting starts in Iowa in just 3 1 / 2months.
“It’s political malpractice,” said Mitch Stewart, Obama’s 2012 battleground states director and a Clinton backer. “He’s in for a rude awakening. Not only is its recent boom (in contrast with red-state economic declines) proving that the blue-state economic model works while the red-state one fails, it reclaimed its role as the world’s 6th largest economy. Not bad for a state that conservatives have mocked relentlessly as a failure out of step with the country at large. Rather, it looks increasingly that California is the politically progressive, economically and racially diverse model for the future of America.
California is also showing that when Congress won’t act, it has the resources to do the job instead. In this case, since Republicans refuse to allow studies on gun violence, California has decided to fund those studies, anyway:
SCIENTISTS HAVE BEEN collecting data on car crash deaths and casualties for decades. Studies of the dangers of tobacco number in the many hundreds. But the US government has never funded a research center to study gun violence. Yesterday, the California legislature approved a budget allocating $5 million to establish the California Firearm Violence Research Center. This information really wants to be free.

(CNN)A Pennsylvania man faces charges including sexual assault after police say they found him living with 12 girls, including an 18-year-old and two children he fathered with her.
Police in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, just north of Philadelphia, arrested Lee Kaplan, 51, on Thursday. Police said the girls living with Kaplan at his house ranged in age from 6 months to 18 years.
In a related case, authorities nearly 100 miles away in Lancaster County arrested the parents of the 18-year-old, with police saying the couple had “gifted” their daughter to Kaplan for helping them out of financial difficulties. She was 14 when her first child was conceived, the criminal complaint said.
Kaplan was charged with statutory sexual assault, corruption of minors, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault and unlawful contact with a minor, according to a police criminal complaint filed in Bucks County.
The 18-year-old’s parents, Daniel and Savilla Stoltzfus of Quarryville, are charged with endangering the welfare of children. Daniel Stoltzfus also faces charges of criminal conspiracy and statutory sexual assault, according to a criminal complaint filed by police in Bucks County.
Bucks County District Attorney David Heckler told CNN on Sunday that the Stoltzfuses claimed to be the parents of 10 of the girls, and the grandparents of the remaining two children.

In a letter sent to both the Sanders and Hillary Clinton campaigns, the CBC is expressing its resolute opposition to two key reforms demanded by Sanders in the run-up to the Democratic convention: abolishing the party’s superdelegate system and opening Democratic primaries up to independents and Republicans.
“The Democratic Members of the Congressional Black Caucus recently voted unanimously to oppose any suggestion or idea to eliminate the category of Unpledged Delegate to the Democratic National Convention (aka Super Delegates) and the creation of uniform open primaries in all states,” says the letter, which was obtained by POLITICO. “The Democratic Party benefits from the current system of unpledged delegates to the National Convention by virtue of rules that allow members of the House and Senate to be seated as a delegate without the burdensome necessity of competing against constituents for the honor of representing the state during the nominating process.”

California is having one heck of a week. Not only is its recent boom (in contrast with red-state economic declines) proving that the blue-state economic model works while the red-state one fails, it reclaimed its role as the world’s 6th largest economy. Not bad for a state that conservatives have mocked relentlessly as a failure out of step with the country at large. Rather, it looks increasingly that California is the politically progressive, economically and racially diverse model for the future of America.
California is also showing that when Congress won’t act, it has the resources to do the job instead. In this case, since Republicans refuse to allow studies on gun violence, California has decided to fund those studies, anyway:
SCIENTISTS HAVE BEEN collecting data on car crash deaths and casualties for decades. Studies of the dangers of tobacco number in the many hundreds. But the US government has never funded a research center to study gun violence. Yesterday, the California legislature approved a budget allocating $5 million to establish the California Firearm Violence Research Center. This information really wants to be free.

Well that may be the closest I ever get to POTUS and FLOTUS, as I was flying back from DC to San Francisco as they were flying from California back to DC. We probably crossed paths over Utah. Ha!
When it’s windy like that I wish FLOTUS would wear pants, all the while she walk up the stairs I was hoping no dress incident. Glad it wasn’t. I hope the Obama family enjoy their week-end.

Bernie Sanders is on a crash course with the Congressional Black Caucus.
In a letter sent to both the Sanders and Hillary Clinton campaigns, the CBC is expressing its resolute opposition to two key reforms demanded by Sanders in the run-up to the Democratic convention: abolishing the party’s superdelegate system and opening Democratic primaries up to independents and Republicans.
“The Democratic Members of the Congressional Black Caucus recently voted unanimously to oppose any suggestion or idea to eliminate the category of Unpledged Delegate to the Democratic National Convention (aka Super Delegates) and the creation of uniform open primaries in all states,” says the letter, which was obtained by POLITICO. “The Democratic Party benefits from the current system of unpledged delegates to the National Convention by virtue of rules that allow members of the House and Senate to be seated as a delegate without the burdensome necessity of competing against constituents for the honor of representing the state during the nominating process.”
