Kaisch, the governor of Ohio pushed hard for the gop convention to take place in Cleveland.

now as we hear talks of huge protests and companies pulling out of the sponsoring the convention, the city of Cleveland and the state of Ohio in general, are going to take a huge financial loss.

local small businesses may take a financial hit if they had invested in anticipation of getting some gop cash in flow

right wingers gerrymandered the OH districts so they dominate the state legislature.

so there no doubt in my mind that some OH state money was put into the convention and is going to be used to pay for the heavy security.

with little private money coming in the books are going to be red. I hope this will be used by local Dems as campaign criticism.

    • June 18, 2016 at 3:58 pm

Linda, that convention is taking shape as a disaster that will make Chicago, 1968, look like school picnic …..

…. since in 1968, for starters, millions of Americans weren’t armed with assault weapons and weren’t being inflamed by a #CheetoJesus …

I am only a tad bit ashamed to say that I agree with you, nclb. The GOP built this and they need to pay the price. But, it goes to something that PO, VPB and others, myself included fully understand and it’s this: Our country needs two sane, functioning parties. It’s just that simple. Our government is designed that way. I don’t believe that will happen until the GOP is dismantled, torn apart and then rebuilt. I believe this has to happen.

I agree with you. We cannot, this country cannot, afford those fools, racists, insane people as a party. We need a do-over.

            GA TMG.

Yes, the “world’s oldest democracy” needs two sane, functioning parties. Alternatives are to have a single party, which promotes greed and corruption, or dozens of ineffective, infighting splinter parties.

See CA as an example — CA GOP is nothing like GOP DC establishment (think you have to go back to Reagan [before Roe vs. Wade] to find an anti-choice GOPer who won statewide office) and we had 134 candidates on the ballot a couple of weeks ago for US Senate (only a couple of GOP).

And yes, the GOP did this to themselves. IMHO, PBO is right — GOP needs an #intervention, tough love. They need to come to terms to the fact that the Confederacy LOST the Civil War and there are real-world consequences for losing a war. Until that happens, and they STOP pandering to racists and bigots, the GOP is doomed.

On a happier note, the Canadian reporter whose beat is DC is on vacation in your lovely state now. If you’re interested, click on his timeline for more.

my worry is that many in the leadership position of the gop are not intellectually or emotional equipped to rebuild their party.

furthermore, they don’t believe in empirical facts

          June 18, 2016 at 4:57 pm

given the damage the gop has done (and is still determined to do), it would take a special kind heart not to rejoice in their current mess

NCLB–I don’t think Richard Angwin understands TPP. If we don’t sign up with the carefully negotiated TPP, NAFTA, with all its imperfections regarding protections of American workers, stays in effect.

        June 18, 2016 at 7:14 pm

Well said, JackieG! Richard Angwin shows the typical laziness by the “holier than thou progressives” who have never taken time to read the negotiated TPP treaty! They simply view it as a replica of NAFTA, which is absolutely untrue!

Agree with you two. Besides, if we don’t sit at the table for the negotiations, trade deals will happen without us or in spite of us.

Aww, poor Senate Dems. If they lose their majority, they might have to work for a living, show up, make decisions, negotiate, actually vote on something. They’ve had it so cushy these last two years–taking long vacations, showing up occasionally and saying NO to everything. And they get full salary and benefits.

      GA/GE NCLB.

Have to admit it drives me nuts that MSM present stories like this without acknowledging the racist nature of what caused GOP to capture Senate in 2010 (now up for re-election).

GOP and MSM, their propaganda machine, actively promoted the “Tea Party” discontent without lifting a finger to examine the TP motivation. GOP should have taken into considered what their “obstruction at all costs regardless of how it impacts the people living here” would affect their re-election chances. After 2012 they had no excuse — McTurtle’s goal was to make PBO a one-term President — when that failed, he continued his obstruction, so obviously he was motivated by something else (i.,e., fueling resentment among GOP constituents and placing the blame on PBO… how could he have possibly thought that was a good idea after #TwoTermsBaby?).

Dang it all – I had an incoming call about 5 minutes before PBO walked on, no way I could end the call! I did something rather ‘unusual’: put an ear bud from each to find out if my brain could process both, and well, it couldn’t. So, now we know our options are limited. Somewhat! 😭😂😉😇🤓

Trump accuses Jeb Bush of plotting against him and appears to slam Cruz

    June 18 at 7:34 PM

LAS VEGAS — Donald Trump voiced annoyance Saturday at continued resistance to his presumptive presidential nomination from some Republicans as he accused former Florida governor Jeb Bush of trying to undermine his candidacy and appeared to take aim at Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.).

“We are going to beat Hillary. And it would be helpful if the Republicans could help us a little bit,” said Trump. “You know? Okay? Just a little bit.”

After complaining in general terms about talk of a “revolt” against him, Trump later suggested that Bush was involved in an opposing “movement” and that another well-known Republican was also plotting against him.

“By the way, Jeb is working on the movement, just so you understand. I love competition like that. I love it,” said Trump. He added: “And the other one should be obvious to you, but we’ll figure that out very easily.”

    Lawd hammercy!!!
    Truth IS stranger than fiction.
Nobody would even believe it if this had been the plot of a Law&Order episode

    Saque de Banda ‏@aurabogado

Ok wait seriously here’s a list of some of what’s alleged to have happened with the Oakland police department:
    1) a cop kills his wife

    2) fellow officers help him cover up the crime, and the dead cop’s wife death is ruled a suicide

    3) that same cop, who people now believe killed his wife, commits actual suicide

    4) the cop leaves behind a suicide note that reveals that him, and some of his fellow officers, had been raping a child trafficking victim

    5) apparently, an investigation begins to reveal that several officers have, in fact, commuted child rape

    6) after the child trafficking victim turns 18, more cops start paying her for sex; some of this happened in the Oakland PD parking lot

    7) as the investigation continues, it’s alleged that the Oakland PD chief’s wife knew about the child trafficking victim rape all along

    8) for this, and possibly additional reasons, Oakland PD chief steps down: whether he knew what his wife knew or not, he’s unfit to lead

    9) the Oakland PD chief’s wife publicly tweets that “it’s bullshit” right after her husband is fired

    9) Oakland’s mayor says the chief stepped down for “personal reasons.” Girl I GUESS if you call knowledge of child rape a personal thing

    10) muck racking reporters break the lid off the story and Oakland’s mayor doubles down, basically saying they’re lying

    11) new chief is sworn in but may or may not be connected to child rape case. For whatever reason, he also steps down after a few days

    13) a new NEW Oakland PD chief is sworn in and the mayor says he’s great and stuff but apparently not because he steps down after two days

    14) meanwhile a new scandal, this time surrounding blatantly racist, kkk and n-word having texts from Oakland PD, has emerged

    15) Oakland’s mayor is somehow still at her job, decides that there just won’t BE a police chief because that’s how rotten the department is

    16) one murder, a cover-up, a suicide, child rape, racist texts, 3 police chiefs in one week; mayor asks the public to trust the process

more horror in her twitter timeline:
