The tossing aside and refusal to acknowledge the woman whose life he has destroyed is so rage and vomit inducing. The people around this rapist are as vile as he is.
He raped a woman and we’re supposed to feel sorry because he can’t enjoy steak anymore? We’re supposed to feel sorry because he has a sweet smile and is a really nice guy. We’re supposed to feel sorry because he won’t get to be a swim star anymore and his future will be ruined. The nerve of these scumbags.
What about her life? What about her future? What about her mental health? What about her earning potential?
These horrors are what occur when people refuse to acknowledge and turn a blind eye on privilege and rape culture.
A CNN anchor read the entirety of the Stanford rape survivor's letter on air. Took 23 minutes, 3 show segments. https://t.co/Wn81gFbwVk
Thank you for posting. From the previous post, I read the victim’s statement and was broken. The rapist, his father, his friend and the judge need help. They need to see the crime from the victim’s body, lying unconscious behind the dumpster.
How they couldn’t just imagine something like this happening to their daughter, sister or wife and imagine the life that was ruined is unfathomable. They basically show no remorse or a scintilla of sympathy for that young woman.
What if it had happened to one of their sons, or to them? Imagine if that had been a straight man unconscious being violated behind that dumpster. I can guarantee you they would not see it as simply “20 minutes of action” if that action had been done on their backside.
As someone who has been a survivor of male predators more than once in my lifetime, my heart goes out to this survivor. You must fight for years not to erase yourself.
NW, thank you for posting the survivor’s statement. I have sent it far and wide. Her harrowing, eloquent, courageous statement in the face of all that has been done to her not only by her rapist, but by his family and the judicial system is just beyond the pale. I am speechless with rage on so many levels, including that she is still the one taking the high road in her statement while her convicted rapist and his family’s privilege, denial revisionist deflection and whining are given deference and normalized.
Not only that, but his in deep denial dad also thinks that he “has never been violent to anyone INCLUDING his actions on the night of January 17th 2015.”
Maybe like I am, they were sick and tired of being sick and tired of the whole revolution going on in the Democratic primaries, contrary to expectations.
I agree, NCLB. Bernie’s sole slim thread of justification for staying in the race was that he would persuade the SDs to vote for him after his “impressive” win in CA tomorrow. It’s possible the SDs said nuts to that and decided to deliver a resounding message to BS– “we’re with HER, not you.” Tomorrow she’ll earn the pledged delegates she needs and Bernie’s imagined ways forward will be blocked at all points. Then the Bernie people are are actual Democrats will have to decide if they want to defeat Donald Trump or nurse their grievances. I hope they make the right decision.
I hope so too. I so much want to put the revolution behind me and to see the Democrats (old ones and recent converts… hum, hum) unite against the danger on the right.
That senators have the power to block a nominee for petty reasons is absolutely ridiculous. And absurd. The Senate needs reform, big time.
And I will say something that I’ve said multiple times in the past: one of the most important factors of the abuse of power by republicans is the total abdication of the national media for calling out the culprits. Just imagine if CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS had some special news reports detailing the level of obstruction. An hour special listing the nominees that have been blocked, and who’s blocking them and why (by the way the anonymous hold is one rule that has to go ASAP).
Seems that a problem is covered only if the president , or democrats are making a big fuss about it.
I’ve often wondered if the president and his team should have made more noise about the obstruction… I have the same question about Senate democrats. Why haven’t they organized something big to force the media to talk about the problem? And by big, I don’t mean a press conference; it lasts one day and everything is forgotten the next day. Denouncing the republican obstruction and putting them on the defensive would necessitate a very sustained effort. A real “campaign” , so the public finally sees what’s been going on.
Rape is rape. One second, one minute, twenty minutes, rape is rape. The Dad should be ashamed of himself. Likewise the judge and the friend that wrote that letter defending the rapist.
Dudette, we’ all have to be prepared for the both the overt and covert sexism that lies ahead. Hillary Clinton has gone through hell and back, enduring over twenty-five years of concerted right wing efforts to destroy her. She persevered because she’s a person of extraordinary strength and determination and she is highly qualified for the job she seeks. Today, some male Democrats told me they hoped Hillary would choose a man as VP because they would “feel better” if there were a man to support her. It made me so angry I’m still shaking with rage.
Completely O/T, but this is for Nena, a4alice, forus50 (born in MN) and all others who lay claim to the birthplace of Prince and Bob Dylan (many others too of course):
Still hurts and I was only 2 years old when it happened. Growing up in the aftermath of JFK, MLK and RFK instilled a sense of melancholy in me the I will carry with me to the day I die…those losses were incalculable and changed everything.
Hawaiian artist Kamea Hadar (pictured below) just completed and unveiled the new piece entitled “Hapa”: a grand portrait of the President, who was born and raised in Honolulu. The mural is located at the corner of Ward Avenue and Kapiolani in Kakaako, just three miles from Punahou School, where Obama graduated from high school.
In Hawaiian, hapa means “part” or “portion” and is used in the Islands to refer to anyone with a mixed ethnic background. Hadar explains, “The concept of hapa is something beautiful, and President Obama is definitely a symbol of someone who not only is hapa, but represents the philosophy and the beauty of not only being of mixed race, but promoting racial equality.”
Thank you for sharing this DF! I learned about “Hapa” from a co-worker who was raised in Hawaii. She referred to me as “Hapa” and explained to me what it meant and that it wasn’t an insult, but as the article said, referring to a mixture, a coming together, being a beautiful and positive thing. I always liked the term because that is how I feel about being an ancestral melting pot and having stories, experiences and characteristics from different colors and cultures all within me. Maybe it’s the folks I hang out with, maybe it’s a little bit due to where I live, but a lot of my friends or my friends’ kids are also “hapa” 🙂 It’s one of the things about PBO that I love and identify with.
So glad that you loved this…me too:) Really, isn’t that what we ALL are when we get right down to it? We are a wonderful melting pot of people and places and customs….I can not think of a better honor than to be “hapa” 🙂
It is the first thing I’ve ever posted to my Facebook page. I have had it for ~4 years and have no clue how Facebook settings/likes/profile/ect. works! (only reason I created one is to make logins to some apps/sites easier 😀 😀 )
Good evening, all. Tomorrow will be a long day. I am working as a Poll Book Judge so it will be a 15 hour day. I start at 6am and by the time we balance the books it’ll be after 9pm. Thank goodness I’ll have a book and my phone for the off times. They expect a big turn out here. So hope to be very busy.
You are so lucky to a poll judge. You get to see democracy up close and personal. I was a poll worker in every election when I lived in northern Nevada. it was my greatest honor to serve my fellow citizens in this way.
Good night TOD … big day tomorrow for Sec Clinton and America … she’s done what no woman has done before and for that alone deserves enormous respect … and, soon it’ll be President Hillary Clinton and the ‘Promise of America’ will take another step toward an all inclusive reality ….
Posted w /love for all the marvelous BTs, but most especially NW. You are the awesomeness. Thank you! And Dearest Chips, always saying a prayer for you & Mum Chips:
1st!
Are you sure, Don?
Congrats, Don, on your first place!
Great posts today – many thanks NW
Congrats on that 1st Don.

Cotton is a sick and sadistic bastard as well as a traitor. I hope there’s an especially hot place in hell reserved for him.
Me too. Little POS. Like I said before, I hope karma finds him and delivers an extra special call…

Well said (said I, while dancing the happy dance for HRC clinching the nomination).
Yes!!! Get your rest tonight everyone. Tomorrow night will be long and emotional.
The real mug shot of a sick vile rapist.
Sick and vile are perfect descriptors, Nerdy. He’s also a perverted creep.
If people had not spoken up this picture would not have been released.
Rape is rape. One second, one minute, twenty minutes, rape is rape. The Dad should be ashamed of himself. Likewise the judge and the friend that wrote that letter defending the rapist.

You’re absolutely right! I just hope she picks someone would also make a great President.
I trust she will do that. This is just too important to do anything less and she’s smart enough to know that.
Rachel is interviewing Hillary live now on MSNBC!
Correction. That interview was just a little while before the AP announced their count of the delegates and reported Hillary as presumptive nominee.
The fog is rolling in pretty heavy on Bernie. Heh.
Bringing frumpy back does not go over well in West Hollywood:
OMG. He looks so unkempt. Unbelievable!!
I think the revolution has gotten the best of the Senator from Vermont.
OMG, he looks like he’s been sleeping in that mess for days. Honestly, TRY HARDER.
LOL at her face! 🙂
unkempt is polite – he looks like the ole “get off my lawn” guy
Yeah, she’s not the only one..
Word.
dif-tor heh smusma, my sister
😀
🙂
Me too!
He was never in the Dem Party to begin with. He’s an independent, right? So how is he leaving the Dem Party?
GE TODville.

*that I will carry
I feel the same way CC.
Maybe Chelsea Clinton will handle the continuing of the kitchen garden for President Hillary..
If not Chelsea, at least have someone on staff keep it going.
why would Chelsea who is now married with her own child handle the continuing of the kitchen garden?
BEAUTIFUL! That’s OUR President!!

Only thing I know about Positano is that it’s where Marcello in “Under the Tuscan Sun” lived and it’s very beautiful. 🙂
Beautiful! I’ve been in that part of Italy. Gorgeous coastline along the Mediterranean.
Is it full of gorgeous hunky Marcello’s? 😀

She is ready now to be the President…she wasn’t ready 8 years ago. This has a different feel….SO proud of her:)
I feel exactly the same way! It’s her time…so proud to be a woman right now…Go Hillary!!
This HAS to be photoshopped….he wouldn’t hold that up, would he?
Yeh it looks fake
Night all:) GO VOTE TOMORROW!!!! Let your voice be heard!
Breaking: A.P. and major news outlets are reporting that Hillary as of today has clinched the nomination.
Good night TOD … big day tomorrow for Sec Clinton and America … she’s done what no woman has done before and for that alone deserves enormous respect … and, soon it’ll be President Hillary Clinton and the ‘Promise of America’ will take another step toward an all inclusive reality ….
From your lips to God’s ears, Bob. I will do everything in my power to help make this happen.

He’s flip flopping once more? Yup!
I am having the time of my life tonight. Ha, ha, ha!
“Mr. Graham added. “There’ll come a time when the love of country will trump hatred of Hillary.””
I doubt that statement. They sure never put love of country ahead of their hatred of PBO – they are bitter old fools.
RIP & Godspeed:
RIP indeed, Helen Febela Chavez. You were, in the truest essence, a Natural Woman. Bless!
