    Happy Saturday TODers!!

Nerdy, thank you so much for the wonderful coverage of PBO these last couple of days. I don’t believe we got a better coverage anywhere else.

Morning Nerdy and TODers. So glad our president is home safely and can hopefully spend some down time with his family. A family of robins is nesting in a wreath on my back porch and mom and dad are very strident about not wanting us to use the porch. When we venture out to water our flowerpots, mama flutters around us and chirps loudly. Fortunately, the babies are getting getting fatter and more feathered by the day, so they may soon be taking off for parts unknown. Then we’ll be “free” to venture out our own back door.

      GM SallyInMI.

      Hope so too.

Pete’s been alongside PBO throughout his charismatic journeys, there every step of the way as PBO engages with international folk in a way no other American has for at least 50 years.

My imagination tells me he’ll write up his notes for publication and present it to the First Family (Barack, Michelle, Malia, Sasha and Mrs. Robinson for review). And my gut tells me there will be few edits from the First Family (which is something that cannot be said for just about every single “celeb” in the news during PBO’s term.

      So looking forward to #PeteSouzaBook!

It was the Sanders campaign that suggested the Trump debate idea to Kimmel. Now they have threatened the DNC that if it doesn’t remove Barney Frank and Gov. Malloy as co-chairs, it will grind the convention to a halt (because the are Clinton supporters!!) He also feels that Clinton is showing a bit of ‘arrogance’ in saying that she’s going to win the nomination. I read an article that privately he’s told some Democratic friends that he will pull together with Clinton; I hope they aren’t believing that load of old cobblers. I just have no words to express my contempt for that man. This is not who he has become; this is who he has been all along. If you want arrogance, it’s pretty arrogant to sit around twiddling your thumbs in government jobs for 40 and suddenly decide to start a ‘revolution’, viciously campaign against a woman (and I personally think he saw this as his moment because his misogyny can’t conceive of the idea of a woman winning-he thought he’d have an easy win), and then set out to destroy the party that has tolerated and included him for years.

I’d like to thank Nerdy and everyone in TOD village for the excellent coverage of PBO’s Japan trip. It meant a lot for me as a Japanese women from Hiroshima and living abroad.
The Japanese media reports that the Peace Memorial Park has been filled with visitors after PBO’s speech and the embrace of the old survivor of the Atomic bomb has inspired so many people.
Here in England, the newspapers like The Times, The Guardian, the Financial Times, El Pais (Spanish) all carried the picture of the PBO’s embrace on the front page.

  17. May 28, 2016 at 10:15 am

This is disturbing, and I think should be roundly condemned by legal scholars and sensible media. This man spends 12 minutes going after this judge who is hearing a lawsuit brought against him for his corrupt Trump University. I think it is dangerous. I can’t believe that he just skates by with his nonsense.

    • 65 99ts
      May 28, 2016 at 10:23 am

And still so many will vote for this man. The world does not believe what they are seeing.

      May 28, 2016 at 11:35 am

I can understand a person not liking a judge’s decision, but to attack a judge’s ethnicity is so far out of bounds. And yet millions of people are lining up to vote for this guy.

      • 68 99ts
        May 28, 2016 at 5:19 pm

This is what Trump does Don – he bully attacks – he has no logic nor reason for a valid attack so he gets his racist base moving by stating that a person’s race/ethnicity is why they do not like/support “he Trump”. 100% his campaign is based on generating hate. The impact in the States is soul destroying – worldwide it is WWIII

Do you actually cross it, Meta? Driving? Are pedestrians allowed?

          • May 28, 2016 at 2:08 pm

I can walk there from my place (I live in the north of the City). Takes about 30 minutes if I’m ambling. I’ve also walked across. It’s incredibly beautiful but usually very windy! For me, just seeing the bridge, even at a distance is breathtaking. There’s a path I like to walk at the Presidio (in and of itself a super gorgeous place) that has stunning views of the bridge and the mountains and the Bay.

My admiration for you has risen *several* notches, Meta!!! **I** am too much of a coward to attempt to walk over that wide stretch of water! Heck, even driving over it would be a problem. I don’t know what it is about all that water that terrifies me (Well, I do. It’s the fact there are no (pool) walls I can hold on to WHEN I get nervous).

I do admit that pictures of it are very beautiful though, and it’s nice you are close enough to enjoy it whenever you’re in the mood. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

              • May 28, 2016 at 5:00 pm

You have to remember the GG Bridge is HUGE. You don’t ever feel like you’re teetering over water! So there’s no question about feeling safe. Anyway, come visit. I’ll hold onto your arm!

I praise my Heavenly Father for each of you and look forward to your daily photos and news worthy comments of our wonderful President. As mentioned in earlier comments, I have seen Presidents since Franklin Delano Roosevelt and never have I seen such hatred and obstructionism, as this congress exhibits toward our twice-elected Leader of the free world.. Yet our President has persevered and managed to serve our country in this magnificent, inclusive manner that will be remembered and honored as time moves along. Your team has been marvelous in presenting inter-national and local reality to those of us with only washington post and fox news at our finger tips, ready to color our thinking about reality. .Thanks so much; the Sousa Photos are always breathtaking and ‘spot-on’. Love you guys and girls. Will miss these features after January 2017. Your senior observer from inside the city; downtown from the capitol building where some still sleep on the streets and others continue to feather their nests with unearned dollars. P.S. Why are the citizens laying down and permitting this congress to ignore the President’s selection of a qualified Supreme Court Justice???

Illinoisโ€™ budget standoff hit home for Rachel Grainer in a way she never would have anticipated.

Rachel …. found herself a surprise victim of the state’s budget wars. | Mark Brown / Sun-Times

The 79-year-old Oak Park woman, just home from a hospital stay, was shocked to receive a letter from her mortgage company in March demanding that Grainer immediately pay her overdue real estate taxes and threatening to force her to open an escrow account for future taxes.

Grainer thought there must be some mistake. Thatโ€™s because she is among hundreds of Chicago area homeowners who participate in the stateโ€™s Senior Citizens Real Estate Tax Deferral Program.

Under the program, the state pays up to $5,000 a year toward the property taxes of participating homeowners 65 and older โ€” in effect lending them the money at 6 percent interest.

The state gets repaid after the homeowner dies or the property is sold.

    ……………snip ……………………………

But Grainer was among 290 Cook County residents whose taxes totaling $943,663 went unpaid last year because the state did not remit the money to the county as promised.

The reason: no state budget, therefore no legal authority for the Illinois Department of Revenue to make the payments, the same Catch 22 facing dozens of state programs during the impasse.
