Darlene Superville: Obamas Take A Night Out At Mexican Restaurant In Washington

It’s date night for President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle. Obama is treating the first lady to a Mexican meal at the restaurant Oyamel in Washington’s Penn Quarter neighborhood.

The Obamas have dined several times at the establishment owned by celebrity chef and Obama supporter Jose Andres. Obama returned late Friday from a weeklong visit to Vietnam and Japan.

GE, YA. I’ve seen that guy Eric Boehlert on MSNBC a few times now, finally realizing who he was and that I follow him on twitter, and I think he’s one of the good ones.

Those are beautiful Bobfr! I often try to imagine what the black women who were part of my ancestry looked like. I have a photo of one of my great, great grandfathers, who married a white woman, but I haven’t seen any other photos of that period or before, from that side of the family. Looking at those pics helped me to imagine them. Thanks for sharing that.

Bringing this over from end of last…

Freedom House. The first paramedics in Pittsburgh were African-American… who knew… Unfortunately, they were so successful that the city had them train their replacements — all white…

Running behind as usual. GM, GA, GE to everyone. Many thanks to Nerdy for all the beautiful photos, links to speeches and videos for the trip this past week to Vietnam and Japan. I’ve been slowly savoring them so they last longer.

And congratulations to LL and the Mrs!! I hope you find as much love and joy in your marriage as POTUS and FLOTUS have in theirs.

Congrats to all recent fursts, and to everyone doing better health wise. And 2 TODers should be retiring any day now, yes?

Back to chores and more. Hope to peek in again some time this weekend. Happy Memorial Day everyone 🙂

What a great summary, cd! And I’m not sure if I am one of ones you mention, but I am retiring: I have 13 days left to be a teacher.

Congratulations Mary. Retirement’s significance won’t hit you until everyone goes back to school next fall. Then, you’ll know. I suggest doing something wonderful for yourself when that happens. You will miss the kids, but not the hours, the bookwork, the discipline, the administrators……decompression can be hard. I’ve been there. But, being a teacher, you will be useful for the rest of your life in some avenue. That’s what teachers do. Brava to you for teaching long enough to retire, and having a profound influence on young people’s lives.

            • May 29, 2016 at 10:16 am

Thanks Carolyn, I know it will be good. I will my children, my colleagues, AND my administrator! He is the best principal I’ve ever worked for. In fact, if he ever left, I’m pretty sure anyone who could, would leave the school too. I think he really embodies President Obama’s ideas of leadership: find good people, trust and empower them. I’ve been blessed to work with good and great principals and wonderful teachers, parapros, lunch ladies, and custodians in the 26 years I’ve been at this school. I think that’s what’s making it a bit difficult to let go.

Congratulations maryl1! Thank you for your years of dedicated service molding the young minds who will move the world forward. I wish you joy and fulfillment in the next chapter of your journey, as well as much-deserved rest. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Thank you so much, Dudette; it’s certainly a time of reflection about things done and left undone. I’m sure once I’m actually over the hump, and through with all the PAPERWORK!!!!, I’ll be ready to relax and enjoy . 🙂
