Hard to believe that even Cruz thinks this is an improvement on his “image.” That woman is a walking pile of hate whose only talent is the ability to deliver baldfaced lies without blinking. Why is it that nobody in these campaigns ever just goes away? You find them creeping up again like Christie behind Trump or popping up to deliver weird utterances like Carson, or jumping in as a believable VP choice for someone who will never be the nominee. It’s like the night of the living dead.

Wonderful response from Josh. If Cotton thinks the beard makes him look more serious, he needs to think again. He looks like a vacant-eyed ignoramus who just stumbled out of the backwoods.

Hey Jackie, I hope all is well. What Josh said about Heavy Water is a literal truth. I’m confident, that azzhole Cotton knows absolutely nothing about “Heavy Water” (i.e. Deuterium oxide DO2).

    A Mess of Contradictions

Finally, he lent credence to the suspicion that he’s never read a history book. In what a cynic might interpret as an act of speechwriter’s sabotage, he embraced the tag “America First,” going so far as to say it will be “the overriding theme” of his foreign policy. He doesn’t seem to realize that this was the slogan of Charles Lindbergh—in his 1940 campaign against President Franklin D. Roosevelt—to remain neutral and isolationist during World War II. Is Lindbergh Trump’s witting role model?

This was, I repeat, a prepared speech, not some rambling remarks by a candidate in over his head. I don’t know who wrote it, but it seems to confirm rumors that no prominent Republican national-security advisers are assisting Trump’s campaign. Clearly this is the speech of an unserious man who hasn’t read up on the issues or thought through his own instincts. The dangerous thing is not so much that he knows nothing about foreign policy; it’s that he doesn’t know just how much he doesn’t know.

      April 27, 2016 at 4:47 pm

And the most dangerous thing, LH, is that the media treats it as if an intelligent person said something serious, rather than calling it the blithering idiocy it is.

It took a five hours of sobbing on a flight from Vancouver to Toronto for Rishi Agarwal to realize he was done with living a double life. It was time to tell his parents he’s gay.

Now 35, Agarwal grew up in an Indian-Canadian home in Toronto’s suburbs where talking about different sexual orientations was taboo.

“That’s one things that’s different about South Asian families — sex and sexuality isn’t talked about openly,” Agarwal told BuzzFeed Canada.
“If it comes up on TV, the channel was immediately changed.”

But even as a kid, he knew he was different. And as an adult he began to lead a dual life. It all came to a head during a business trip to Vancouver where he had a romance with a man who wrote Agarwal a heartfelt letter as he left. Afraid someone would find it, he threw the letter away before getting on his flight home.

“I can’t believe I threw someone’s heart in the garbage. I don’t want to be this person.”

It was 2004, just after Canada Day, when he finally told his parents the truth. He expected his mom to cry and his dad to kick him out of the house.

Agarwal, left, with his dad Vijay. Courtesy of Rishi Agarwal

“Instead what happened is my mom stayed quiet for two hours and my dad being the engineer that he is, very methodic, just kept asking questions.”

Far from being kicked out, Agarwal’s dad, Vijay, assured him they would figure this out together.

“He was like, ‘Son, this is your home, you’re always going to be our son, don’t ever think otherwise. We love you so much,’” said Agarwal.

“That was the moment I realized, oh my god, I’m not going to lose my family.”

You’ll appreciate this, I think. a friend of mine has this precocious 7-8yr old daughter who can be quite the little organizer when she wants something. Her 8th birthday is tomorrow and friend told me little miss has decided that she wants to go to Cora’s (pancake restaurant) as a special breakfast treat. She asked for this ahead of time btw. I mistakenly reminded mom that tomorrow is a school day. Yes, replied mom – when she mentioned that, the little dear calmly reminded her that it’s okay to be late to school for this special day. {She is good in school.) In fact, she found out this evening that little miss already told the teacher today that she’d be late tomorrow. 🙂

😀 Honestly, I keep telling her mom I can’t wait to see how mom copes with her as a teenager! She schools her mom so often *now* – mostly in a rational manner – it boggles my mind. Mom just shakes her head and says she doesn’t know where she gets her ideas (she has an older son who just turned 13 and according to mom he was/is never like this).

Lovely photo to this post, and even more loveliness at Pete Souza link above.

A little harried, but just wanted to say, I voted in MD and one of my surprises at my polling place is that Donna Edwards only had one sign. There were a sea of signs for all kinds of candidates. Granted, I’m in a Chris Van Hollen congressional area, but was hoping to see more than one sign out there for Donna. We had great candidates for Sen., but I think Chris beat Donna fair & square. I know Donna will come back again and I believe she’ll use those lessons learned to be a fab candidate, take charge of her campaign. Not sure it’s within the legalities, but someone needs to keep track of those PACs.

Meanwhile, Anthony Brown did a fab job, especially with that ad w/ his wife. It was so well done! Wish I had a link to it to post here.

I’m so proud of my MDers for getting down to business. My polling place was hopping all morning. I voted at about lunchtime (1pm-ish) and people were trickling in at that time, steady pace. Normally I go either on the way to work or on way home. I’m pretty sure it was busy after work.

    Cheers, peace & love! 🙂

Did anyone listen to Trump foreign policy speech today?

    • 108 nospin
      April 27, 2016 at 8:26 pm

I did. It had a Palinesque quality chock full of word salad with gobs of gibberish. To think, Trump read most from the teleprompter and even then he had no substance. He went off script a few times, repeated words over and over again, used the regular GOP phrases…benghazi, ISIS, radical Islam, fund and increase the military, economy is in a free fall, friends and rivals do not respect us, USA is the best in the world. Convert all other countries to westernism, only Trump alone can make America great again… blah blah blah.

      You didn’t miss anything Bella.

At work, someone loves to put CNN on all the TVs. When I see that, I’ll quietly switch to some benign TV station — HGTV, food network, etc. Except the one in the reception area — I switch that one to ticker-tape Bloomberg News channel. I was passing one of those TVs today, before I could switch off, CNN was doing it’s “Breaking News” shit, Cruz has a HUGE announcement. Ummm! He’s apparently chosen Fiorina as his running mate!
