A Tweet Or Two

That was the essential beauty of the album. She reached deep and pulled the BLACK from the roots of the earth. The cinematography, the makeup, the costume, the lyrics, the spoken word, the journey. BRAVO!

Bless yourself

SLAY, Serena Williams!

The mothers of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Eric Garner

Pay close attention to the black women she spotlighted. Lemonade is deep. Don’t sleep on it

YAAAAAAS. October, here we come! Beyoncé’s Freedom and Kendrick Lamar’s Alright goes right into the catalogue of black power songs

Her poems are just WHEW!

Damn, utterly fantastic tweets Nerdy, my head is spinning.

          Thanks so much, Chips.

Beyoncé gave us a taste with Formation, but wow….wow….wow, she more than delivered with LEMONADE.

          I am blown away.

Her singing ‘FREEDOM’ to the black mothers whose children have been murdered, the fire and water imagery signaling rebirth, the bonds of sisterhood, the black women she chose and the spotlight she focused on them, the song lyrics, the references to Yoruba, Black, and Southern Black Culture.

          So. Many. Layers.

“Hear beating a whole lot faster…..” I’m right there with you, Chips.

The story of my life. I post a long comment just before a new thread is up 🙂

Just had to come here and have a lighthearted vent with the TODers:

Today is my day off. I was sitting down, letting my newly painted toenails dry and catching up on TOD and Al Giordano’s Twitter feed when I heard someone screaming, “Help!, Help!” repeatedly. I went outside and realized it was coming from a neighbor’s house, someone that I don’t know and have never met. I peeked over the fence and saw an elderly woman on the ground who told me (not kidding here) “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.” I went around the corner and into her backyard. I’m physically fit and strong, so I attempted to lift her up but she was of no help at all, so I couldn’t do it. Her Life Alert button and machine did not work, so I called 911 from my cell. They told me they were on the way.

While we waited, she bemoaned the fact that 911 would probably charge her $50 for coming, and that maybe with inflation it had gone up to $100.

Then she said, “Obama says prices haven’t gone up, can you believe that?.” I ignored her.

She repeated it, so I replied, “Well, I love the President, so….”

She said, “You do? Well, a lot of people do, I guess.”

I started to tell her about how, for example, the ACA has been such a blessing for me, as someone in business for myself, but she interrupted me with, “I guess you probably like Hillary too.” I replied that, yes, I did. She wasted no time in telling me, “You know she lied.” I ignored her. She persisted, “You know she lied about Benghazi. She lied to those Benghazi families.”

I then was the one who lied, as I promptly told her, “I think I hear someone coming. Let me go check.”

Thankfully, just then, the sirens from the paramedics could be heard coming down the street. The paramedics arrived and I was able to say, “You’re in good hands now, so I’m going to go back home.” I smiled at the paramedics as I left.

They didn’t look like they would enjoy her thoughts on PBO and HRC either:-)

You just made my day in so many ways.
I am laughing because usually I am the one posting “War and Peace” before a new thread is up.
And every time I do my nails there is always an emergency!
So I really hope that you are planning to meet up in June. I want to meet my sister in person.
Thank you for making me LOL!

          Oh no!
We have to have a reunion.
As long as PBO is bringing about change WE will always have something to celebrate.
I foresee a planned trip to his library in the making. I don’t have a problem sporting my Life Alert button and walker.
I know that you got me, Sis.

    Good afternoon TOD!
NW , you have outdone yoursel on this one.
I have yet to view “LEMONADE” but I have been hearing positive vibes from everyone!
Harlem, U.S.A. is celebrating Prince’s life today on 125th Street.
His life is something to behold.

Ms. Chip, peace to you and your Mom.
I know how difficult this experience can be.
I am going through with a dear sister and a friend.
    It can be overwhelming.
Make time for you. I had to learn how to do that without guilt.
It takes time but I am in a good place.

But I think that you were much nicer than I would have been to that woman on a Monday.
That’s one test I would not have passed…..not today!

By the way, how do your nails look?

What a bunch of bullshit, it wasn’t the Rice family that murder anyone. It was the Cleveland police who murder a black 12 year old boy and it does not seem to bother them at all,. what a disgrace. That letter is trying to put the blame on the 12 year old. It’s the police who need to be taught how to handle a situations, without blowing blacks folks down without a care in the world.

Correction: parents must unfortunately continue to educate their children about the dangers associated with their local police officers’ mishandling of firearms.

The police tried to LIE and say he did not follow directions, the video SHOWS Tamar was MURDERED by the heartless, gutless, police and their enablers. Justice for Tamar and the others will prevail if the youth stop yelling and start voting. You have to change brutality one election at a time and don’t ever ever stop because they know the power is in voting that’s why they are trying to take it away.

Still reeling from Lemonade. I have begun going through it again to begin my own personal analysis (Literary geek, here). My mind works this way when I see almost anything, but this visual album has more depth than anything that has been in the popular media for decades. One thing that I am pondering now is the use of music from the ballet Swan Lake that were used at the end of the scene in the garage where she throws away her wedding ring and in the beginning of the next scene that has the line “ashes to ashes, dust to side chicks.” I have several ideas about this, but I am still working them.

When I was a little girl I found a young stray cat and named her Mrs. Jones, after the song 🙂 I used to snuggle with her and sing it to her and she loved to hear her name sung like that. That is one of my favorite songs because of the nerve of it, the words and of course the music!
I hear it in my head often when I am in a slump…..the musical arrangement is so uplifting for me.

    Just for a little LOL!

When you’re from the farm, your perception is a little bit different.

A farmer drove to a neighbor’s farmhouse and knocked at the door. A boy, about 9, opened the door. “Is your dad or mom home?” said the farmer.
    “No, they went to town.”
“How about your brother, Howard? Is he here?”
“No, he went with Mom and Dad.”
The farmer stood there for a few minutes, shifting from one foot to the other, mumbling to himself, when the young boy says, “I know where all the tools are, if you want to borrow one, or I can give Dad a message.”
“Well,” said the farmer uncomfortably. “No, I really want to talk to your Dad, about your brother Howard getting my daughter Suzy pregnant”.
The boy thought for a moment, then says, “You’ll have to talk to my Dad about that. I know he charges $500 for the bulls and $150 for the pigs, but I have no idea how much he charges for Howard.”
