    Tears, tears, and more tears.

I can’t believe Prince is dead. I’m in shock and disbelief. 2016 truly has been cruel on people who love music and the people who made us stop, marvel, and think. There just aren’t enough words to describe his magical aura.

I thank him for everything he has blessed us with.

RIght there with you NW. HE was the soundtrack of my life particularly college years; and showed through his music and his life the importance to just be you 1000% always. Thank you SOOOOO much for this tribute post.

Thank you NW … a very, very sad day …. bbl ….

  12. April 21, 2016 at 3:29 pm

I just got home from errands, having heard of Prince’s death on the radio. I feel such a deep sadness. Can’t believe it.

Everywhere I went, his music was playing over the sound system and people were talking about it. I heard one guy say that he’d just seen him in Oakland and he was phenomenal, playing incredible sets of old and new music. Prince had come to the Bay Area to do 2 shows at the Paramount in Oakland, then he went to the Warriors game. People said he was having so much fun that he asked the Oracle if he could do a spur of the moment concert in a couple of days. They immediately said YES and the rest is history.

Prince, the one and only, may he forever RIP.

I was supposed to be running to the grocery store. Heard the news. Crying uncontrollably. Couldn’t even go in the store. I’ll do groceries later.

      • April 21, 2016 at 3:36 pm

It’s so weird, Dudette, I can’t barely listen to his music right now, it’s just feels like pain. Can’t stop crying at the thought that his genius is gone.

          April 21, 2016 at 3:50 pm

For me, listening to his music helps the hurt. He’s in the music. He IS the music, so he is not gone.

He fought for his freedom from the record company; I remember when he had “slave” written on the side of his face during his fight. He later made his music and concerts available to many and affordable. I remember buying a CD directly from his personal label. He was authentic, fiercely independent, a true artist, and as being revealed more and more as this awful day unwinds, a true humanitarian; one who did his good works quietly. RIP, Prince Rogers Nelson.

BB after I get home to mourn, play music, honor…to try and get this to sink in. I am in disbelief at the moment.

If I was still in the workforce, I would be trying to explain my sadness to my students and gathering with staff members to mourn and remember. However, I retired recently and there is no immediate group with whom I can share this loss. So glad that I have TOD to help me through these first raw hours of unthinkable loss.

It’s fascinating *watching* him…he was a part of the performance, yet separate. He took that song to another level and carried us with him. A GENIUS who will be missed. R.I.P.

I seem to remember Prince played a medley of songs on the NAACP Image Awards some years ago. It was fantastic. Does anyone remember that? If so, do you know what year that was and if it is available on YouTube? If possible, I need to see that video right now. Thanks in advance for your help.

Prince, your activism was always appreciated. I respected your willingness to help black causes, much of it undercover. Rest in Power my brother!
