I can’t believe Prince is dead. I’m in shock and disbelief. 2016 truly has been cruel on people who love music and the people who made us stop, marvel, and think. There just aren’t enough words to describe his magical aura.
I thank him for everything he has blessed us with.
Non stop Prince.
Yes, @MTV. That is the way to pay tribute to a musical GENIUS.
RIght there with you NW. HE was the soundtrack of my life particularly college years; and showed through his music and his life the importance to just be you 1000% always. Thank you SOOOOO much for this tribute post.
I just got home from errands, having heard of Prince’s death on the radio. I feel such a deep sadness. Can’t believe it.
Everywhere I went, his music was playing over the sound system and people were talking about it. I heard one guy say that he’d just seen him in Oakland and he was phenomenal, playing incredible sets of old and new music. Prince had come to the Bay Area to do 2 shows at the Paramount in Oakland, then he went to the Warriors game. People said he was having so much fun that he asked the Oracle if he could do a spur of the moment concert in a couple of days. They immediately said YES and the rest is history.
It’s so weird, Dudette, I can’t barely listen to his music right now, it’s just feels like pain. Can’t stop crying at the thought that his genius is gone.
He fought for his freedom from the record company; I remember when he had “slave” written on the side of his face during his fight. He later made his music and concerts available to many and affordable. I remember buying a CD directly from his personal label. He was authentic, fiercely independent, a true artist, and as being revealed more and more as this awful day unwinds, a true humanitarian; one who did his good works quietly. RIP, Prince Rogers Nelson.
I’m at work. Someone just told me Prince passed and I’m in shock. Had a few minutes between appointments and knew TOD would be on it. Thank you Nerdy for having this beautiful tribute up so quickly.
BB after I get home to mourn, play music, honor…to try and get this to sink in. I am in disbelief at the moment.
If I was still in the workforce, I would be trying to explain my sadness to my students and gathering with staff members to mourn and remember. However, I retired recently and there is no immediate group with whom I can share this loss. So glad that I have TOD to help me through these first raw hours of unthinkable loss.
It’s fascinating *watching* him…he was a part of the performance, yet separate. He took that song to another level and carried us with him. A GENIUS who will be missed. R.I.P.
I really did not like this movie, but Kristin Scott Thomas chewed up the screen.
I knew we’d be seeing her in other movies. Prince had an eye for talent.
FLOTUS has to come back to the U.S., because she suppose to be the speaker at Jackson St. University Graduation ceremony April 23rd. POTUS will be going on to Germany. The JSU ceremony suppose to be 3pm. I think POTUS will head home Monday.
I seem to remember Prince played a medley of songs on the NAACP Image Awards some years ago. It was fantastic. Does anyone remember that? If so, do you know what year that was and if it is available on YouTube? If possible, I need to see that video right now. Thanks in advance for your help.
Prince, your activism was always appreciated. I respected your willingness to help black causes, much of it undercover. Rest in Power my brother!
Prince – If I Was Your Girlfriend
Just listening to “sexuality” and the line ” we don’t need a revolution, we just need to get organized” stood out in light of this years primaries…
Let’s go crazy
Prince – Most Beautiful Girl in the World
Tears, tears, and more tears.

PRINCE on The Arsenio Hall Show FULL EPISODE
Thank you NW … a very, very sad day …. bbl ….

Prince, the one and only, may he forever RIP.
I was supposed to be running to the grocery store. Heard the news. Crying uncontrollably. Couldn’t even go in the store. I’ll do groceries later.
It’s so weird, Dudette, I can’t barely listen to his music right now, it’s just feels like pain. Can’t stop crying at the thought that his genius is gone.
For me, listening to his music helps the hurt. He’s in the music. He IS the music, so he is not gone.
He fought for his freedom from the record company; I remember when he had “slave” written on the side of his face during his fight. Can’t wait to see FLOTUS on the show NCIS, I have never watch that show before.
I watch that show every week and have my DVR set for all first runs. Can’t miss it. Thanks for the heads up.
Ugh! 😩
Damn!
My older sister cried buckets the day Marvin Gaye died. I was little, and didn’t understand her pain.
I do now.
I cried so hard, I ached all over when we lost Marvin, Luther, James Brown, MJ, Whitney, and now Prince.
OMG, sobbing now.
I can’t even work. I have been a complete mess since getting the news.
I’ve given up trying to get anything else done today. My eyes are all puffy; I keep blubbering. I just surrender.
Damn. Even NASA & the cosmos loved Prince
There I go again! [dang]
Feel like it did that day when we learn that Michael Jackson had died.
Exactly bella! It hit me the same way as MJ’s passing.
MTV is on in the background and I am dancing it out; thanks for the heads up, NW.
The White House
Prince, MJ, Whitney, Luther–my 80s icons now all gone.
This… I am at defcon level 10 of sadness and grief
GA TODville.
Seems like no generation of musicians is being spared in 2016. 😦
Please tell me the Aretha tweets are more along these lines! I can’t take it, if it’s not.

Note: They also keep switching to Prince coverage.
We lost Vanity (Denise Mathews) earlier this year…
Damn, so heartbreaking. Way too young to be taken from us.
I really did not like this movie, but Kristin Scott Thomas chewed up the screen.
I knew we’d be seeing her in other movies. Prince had an eye for talent.
Family of artists from Prince’s camp…
Without Prince, you don’t get this…
I HOPE THE OBAMAS HAVE A LOVELY WEEKEND IN THE UK….:)
FLOTUS has to come back to the U.S., because she suppose to be the speaker at Jackson St. University Graduation ceremony April 23rd. POTUS will be going on to Germany. The JSU ceremony suppose to be 3pm. I think POTUS will head home Monday.
Prince gave Carmen Electra her stage name.
Prince wrote and produced some music for Patti in the late 80s
If hubby and I have a “song,” it’s “I Wanna Be Your Lover.” I know.
My favorite Prince song was When Doves Cry. I’m still in shock. I cannot believe he is gone. It seems so unreal.
Yes.
Me too! One of my faves of his!
SUCH A SHAME..PRINCE WAS SO YOUNG..MAY HE REST IN PEACE……………………..

PRINCE AND MJ….COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN TWIN BROTHERS….SO IDENTICAL IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE……………..
I’m sorry those two never perform together.
