And, it was a “greeting” not a “meeting”.. BS stalked Pope Francis..

“On the Vermont senator, Francis said he greeted Sanders on Saturday morning as he was leaving the Santa Marta, the hotel within Vatican grounds where the pope lives.

Sanders was staying at the same residence, because that’s where all participants in the Vatican conference he attended on Friday were spending the night. The only exceptions were Presidents Evo Morales of Bolivia and Rafael Correa of Ecuador, who stayed at their country’s embassy in Rome.

“This morning as I was leaving, Senator Sanders was there,” Francis said. “He knew I was coming out at that time, and he had the kindness to greet me.”

“When I came down, he introduced himself, I greeted him with a handshake, and nothing more,” the pope added. “It’s common courtesy, this is called common courtesy.

“If someone thinks that greeting someone is getting involved in politics,” he said, “I recommend that they find a psychiatrist.”

Well now, that was awkward. But you’ve got to love Bernie, hanging out in the hotel lobby waiting for the Pope to come downstairs and then act as though you and the Pope engaged in some sort of deep conversation about society.

OMgoodness. Everyone should take a minute to read the Pope’s full comments on the cruznow.com/church link.

I admire that man a great deal. I can see why he & PBO got along so well. Their thinking aligns one another perfectly.

Forget Bernie and the handshake for a moment … that story about the Pope and the refugees (including sweet children) was heartwarming. I’m reminded he’s mentioned to the bishops around the world that each should take in “one” family. He didn’t mean only help one family and you’re done with it, he meant the symbolism of what he was quoted to have said in this article:

“Of the 12 people who flew with the pope, six of them are children, ranging from 2 to 17 years old. Speaking about the impact of this ‘small gesture,’ Francis said he’d steal Mother Teresa’s words when she said that what she did was nothing but ‘a drop of water in the ocean, but without that drop it wouldn’t be the same sea.’ I answer like this, it’s a small gesture, but a small gesture every man, every woman should do to help those in need,” he said.

He makes me want to be a better person. And none of us have to “look far” to help those in need!

        April 16, 2016 at 1:27 pm

Yes, it is small, but touching and must mean a great deal to those families and the families who love them. Really, we do know the RCC could do so much more, and perhaps following Pontiff’s lead, they will.

          April 16, 2016 at 1:46 pm

Yes, he’s set the new standard – and he walks the walk. Some of the U.S. cardinals, in particular, are all agog and wide-eyed. 🙂 I follow several Catholic blogs and websites – mostly Jesuits (more “progressive”), as the Pope is – and they’re following his every move, with great joy. Hope he lives and thrives for a very long time. Mostly for his example of “brother’s keeper,” like that other guy we know.

Indeed JO’B! This is a far more meaningful and inspiring story than this Sanders crap.

    • April 16, 2016 at 1:09 pm

GA, TOD! Love this line in the opening paragraph: “… Pope Francis called it merely “common courtesy”, and said anyone who sees it differently needs “a psychiatrist.””

The Pope has a way with words!

    • 33 jackiegrumbacher
      April 16, 2016 at 1:23 pm

So Bernie deliberately hung out in the lobby so that Pope Francis would have to see him as he passed by and stuck out his hand, making it impossible for the Pope to refuse to shake it. The Pope adamantly refuses to call this anything but a common courtesy, but Bernie will think it’s worth all the thousands of dollars it took for him to get a special plane to Rome for him and ten members of his family. I hope this “Pope stalking” backfires big time with NY Catholics.

I am thinking this handshake with the Pope that may have been witnessed by his extended family may be all he gets out of this Presidential run. Hope it is enough to not be persuaded to run as an Independent in the GE, as that would finish off our Country.

Do anyone know why President Obama have not visit Flint Michigan? I heard someone talking about that, they gave no answer as to why he hasn’t.

      April 16, 2016 at 1:04 pm

Hi annieb. I’m not sure, IMO, that it is necessary for PBO to visit Flint. He has dispatched the necessary people to handle the crisis and it seems to be improving the water situation and the investigation into the wrongdoings is also being handled. What more can we ask him to do?

    • 39 hopefruit2
      April 16, 2016 at 1:06 pm

I don’t know why he hasn’t visited Flint, but I do know that he has done something even more important and impactful than a photo-op visit. He has authorized $80 million in federal aid.

      • April 16, 2016 at 1:24 pm

I was wondering, because I saw Michael Dyson on the Jesse Jackson show and on one Dyson talk about how he like the President, he support the President, but on the other hand Dyson was putting down him for what he hasn’t done, could have done for the black, hispanic people. He went to Newton, why not go to Flint. He put down black people at his Morehouse graduation speech, but when he spoke at Barnard Women College and that military ceremony, he didn’t put down anyone there. He just went on and on about what POTUS could have done for the black community. And he was really upset about something POTUS said when he spoke at the 50th anniversary of the bridge in Alabama. He just went on and on..He sound like a friend who will be smiling in your face while he stab you in the back.

      April 16, 2016 at 1:42 pm

I am thinking if PBO went to Flint it would politicize the situation making it seem more like two sides fault instead of keeping the blame on the Republican Governor. And we all know what PBO wants the GOP gets obstinate about not doing.

    • 46 arapaho415
      April 16, 2016 at 4:36 pm

      GA annieb.

Whoever is suggesting that PBO visit Flint is just looking for an excuse to bash PBO.

The situation in Flint is unconscionable and should never have happened, but it’s the people in Michigan that need to mobilize and do everything in their power to correct the situation and provide outreach to help those with tainted water. And yes, that includes residents in Grosse Pointe and other leafy well-heeled Detroit suburbs.

This is a local (state-level) problem and must be addressed and corrected at the local, not federal level. HF2 is right, feds have been supportive, but state politicians should not be allowed to deny their responsibility.

Talking heads on radio and TV need to identify how the situation can be corrected and mobilize support at local levels between now and the next election in affected cities and states.

And don’t thing for one second, maryl1, that BS is going to not accept fees for speaking after he loses this election. With the kinds of crowds he is now drawing he will be a high demand speaker for many angry groups of people. And I bet he will accept whatever they want to pay him. And not release his transcripts either 🙂

  21. April 16, 2016 at 3:41 pm

“Hillary could indeed make her life a bit easier this primary season by putting out the transcripts, letting everyone see there’s nothing to them, and taking away Bernie’s last leg to stand on. But she recently acknowledged why she’s playing the long game.

Professional huckster Donald Trump is her most likely opponent in the general election, and Clinton appears to have knowledge that Trump has given closed door speeches to Wall Street that would make him look very bad. She wants to wait until after they each have their party’s nomination, and then demand that he release his speech transcripts in exchange for her releasing hers. If he refuses, he comes off as the one with something to hide. If he caves under pressure, or if he can’t resist playing her game, his transcripts will make him look bad and help her November chances. But she can’t force his hand if she’s already released her own transcripts during the primary.”

      April 16, 2016 at 5:43 pm

Do the transcripts belong to Hillary? This is what I’ve been wondering.

      • April 16, 2016 at 5:58 pm

That’s a good question. I’ve heard people say that sometimes there are agreements signed with the company that pays. I don’t know for sure. However, if there are problematic things in those speeches, someone who was there and who wanted to take her down would have leaked them by now.

      GA HF2 and Ladyhawke.

Surprisingly, @cbsradionews (which spins virtually every. single. mention of PBO as negatively/doubtfully as possible) mentioned this at the top of the 4pm (1pm PDT) hour today.

However, it’s frustrating that they said it was a PSA, but didn’t mention MBK — would it have killed the producer to include those 3 words?

MSM continue their struggle to diminish PBO and his “legacy search” — they apparently have no idea that PBO and FLOTUS will build on what they started during their WH years. MBK will become part of American culture and #LetGirlsLearn will too.

P.S. – Does anyone know what the game PBO and Steph were playing — the one with the circular game pieces in a vertical stand?

It’s hard for the speaker of the House of Representatives to put together a budget deal if he or she is running for the Republican nomination for president. Instead of gathering your colleagues to see what’s possible on spending, revenues, the deficit and the national debt you’re busy making yourself acceptable to a majority of the GOP’s delegates.

But that’s what Paul Ryan (R-WI) has been doing the past few weeks. Instead of focusing on the legal requirement that Congress adopt the fiscal 2017 budget resolution by April 15…Ryan made the obligatory trip to Israel to demonstrate his foreign policy chops and began to air a political advertisement on YouTube that is remarkably similar to the standard political biography candidates use to introduce themselves to voters.

Not doing a budget resolution means no budget debate before the election and will prevent House and Senate Democrats from offering amendments that will be politically embarrassing to Republicans.

MSM have no idea how powerful a video with the cute-as-a-button Steph Curry is, and how it will resonate among busy Americans who are fed up with political bickering.

NBA playoffs are happening now, so lots of dinner table and water cooler talk about NBA, and may inspire men to seek out the opportunity to be a mentor.

        GA Meta.

@cbsradionews is also reporting on this development (haven’t checked twitter today, and now am off for some quality patio gardening time, LOL).

This Administration’s juggling all sorts of balls in the air, setting priorities and acting on them during PBO’s few precious opportunities to do (i.e., foreign trips — PBO has been on a lot of foreign trips, and each one has built on the previous) is mind-boggling.

Books on how this Administration unraveled the web of activities across the globe will be fascinating reading.

After @60minutes report on the “28 pages” last Sunday, MSM has been lockstep in getting this Administration to release the “28 pages” (the final chapter of the 9/11 investigation report by the US Senate Select Committee on Intelligence) and to apply pressure on Saudi Arabia during PBO’s trip there this week.

        Stay tuned…

Yea, and there’s a video at the end….Bestest, greatest President EVER. The tears will flow…

Obama has a few other edges in the long haul of history, beyond specific hurrah moments like Obamacare, rescuing the economy, and making America way more bi-curious. Being the first black president of course secures a certain legacy. But what now feels distinctly possible is that, just as Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed, over time he may be judged less for the color of his skin than for the content of his character. That character came across every time haters or Trumpers or birthers tried to pull him down into the mud or question his American-ness. He just flew above it all. And, luckily, he took most of us with him. He was the Leader not only of our country but of our mood and disposition, which is harder to rule. At a time when we became more polarized, our discourse pettier and more poisoned, Obama always came across as the Adult in the Room, the one we wanted to be and follow.

To the core of my being, I love this man and am so grateful for living in the Age of Obama… No words.

Report: Saudis vow to sell US assets if Congress decides gov was involved in 9/11

    Published April 16, 2016

Saudi Arabia has reportedly told the Obama administration and congressional leaders that it will sell billions of dollars in U.S. financial assets if Congress passes a bill to make the Saudi government legally responsible for any role in the 9/11 attacks.

The administration has tried to stop Congress from passing the legislation, a bipartisan Senate bill, since Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir last month told Washington lawmakers his country’s position, according to The New York Times.

Al-Jubeir purportedly informed the lawmakers during a trip to Washington that Saudi Arabia would be forced to sell as much as $750 billion in Treasury securities and other American financial assets on the world market, fearing the legislation could become law and U.S. courts would then freeze the assets.

The revelations about the Saudis’ ultimatum come several days after reports that President Obama will soon decide whether to declassify 28 pages of sealed documents suspected of showing a Saudi connection to the deadly 9/11 terror attacks.
