Morning. Thanks for opening the door, AMK. We’re just one week from the New York primary, which I hope puts HRC one very big step closer to the White House.

    Good morning TOD 🙂

    Thank you amk!! 🙂

Hope you all have a fine Tuesday!

Why is the House dragging its feet on funding CDC/NIH in regard to fighting the Zika virus? Are they waiting for an epidemic in the U.S. before they do anything? They’re useless.

      • April 12, 2016 at 8:54 am

Congress is doing what it has done these seven years….NOTHING. The American people need to be asking their Congressman or woman what are they waiting for, till Zika gets here and start affecting people. Then they can sit back and blame that Obama for something else. I put nothing pass these Republicans. Maybe the media need to be asking Congress why they aren’t doing their job, instead of focusing on this election so damn much.

I guess it’s time for us to hit the phones again, Bella. The Republican majority in Congress does not care if the whole country falls apart as long as PBO is denied even one small victory. In this case, it isn’t the president, it’s the American people. Of course, you are talking about pregnant women as the most vulnerable to the Zika virus and we all know how much contempt they have for women.

        GM pkayden.

GOP Congress (who holds the nation’s purse-strings) have demonstrated clearly, time after time, that they are UNWORTHY of the responsibility for any country on earth.

Their cruelty and allegiance to soundbites has and is currently putting this nation and her people truly at risk.

I seethe at their inhumanity to the people of this country.

  6. April 12, 2016 at 9:04 am

Good Tuesday, AMK…TOD Family! Thanks, AMK, for getting the village going today. 🙂

  7. April 12, 2016 at 9:06 am

Are any of the candidates, besides HRC, even trying to talk about issues? Or are they relieved that there’s another faux scandal/issue that takes the heat off of them to show some substance?

    • 21 jackiegrumbacher
      April 12, 2016 at 9:13 am

SW, no one else in this election is talking anything but platitudes and tired talking points. Only Hillary has detailed plans on every issue, as her NYDN interview indicated. That means no one else is really qualified to be president, except they are counting on their ‘maleness’ to see them through.

      • April 12, 2016 at 9:25 am

Yeah, JackieG. All I’ve been hearing since the weekend are “rigged” and “superdelegates”. Not to mention the direct attacks on HRC with the continued “email”, “super predator”, whatever.

Hillary is the only one not whining about something…even though she probably has more reason to whine if she were operating at the elementary ed level like the rest of them.

    • 23 57andfemale
      April 12, 2016 at 9:37 am

No one. Zip. Did you read the transcript of her interview with the New York Daily News? I am so frustrated that BS’s empty slogans are garnering “love” when she is so damned competent.

      • April 12, 2016 at 9:56 am

Yes, I read it, 57andfemale. The double standards and sexism in this primary are glaring. I suspect that if HRC were a white male, her intelligence and her political acumen would be more appreciated and the nomination would be in the bag whether or not BS stayed in the race. The things she is criticized for would be considered a strength if she were male. She would not be able to answer questions with empty slogans. The whining that the men (both sides) are doing would be highlighted and pointed to as proof that she does not have the temperament to be POTUS/CIC.

I think (hope) more and more people are seeing that HRC is more than the empty shells the other candidates are…that in spite of the “tarnish” her antagonists try to always play up, she still has more shine and glitter than does the others in this race.

        April 12, 2016 at 9:58 am

Yeah, 57&F, all one has to do is read and compare those two NYDN interviews and the decision as to who should follow PBO should be a no-brainer.

See the article I posted below from the NY Times last year. I think you’ll find it interesting. A lot of the angry anti-HRC stuff seems to be coming from the far left, but originated with the usual suspects… Koch and Rove!

“Cutting the cost of diapers for low-income families: Low-income families spend an average of $936 per child on diapers every year — double what some higher-income families pay. The Administration teamed up with Jet — and First Quality (the makers of Cuties brand diapers) to help low-income families and non-profits find the savings that the new economy provides to the rest of us. Now, any non-profit (and the families they serve) will able to purchase diapers as much as 25 percent cheaper than the current available price.”
PBO has spoken on this issue and working on it.
Seeing the baby above in a plastic bag gives me a pain in the heart.

Tuesday marks Equal Pay Day, a symbolic event dramatizing how much longer it takes a woman to earn as much as a man — and an annual opportunity for Democrats to lambast Republicans for inaction on the issue.

Plans to force the largest companies to disclose more about their tax affairs will be unveiled by the European Union on Tuesday.

The rules will affect multinational firms with more than €750m in sales.

They will have to detail how much tax they pay in which EU countries as well as any activities carried out in specific tax havens.

The plans come amid heightened scrutiny of the use of tax havens following the Panama Papers revelations.

let’s see if they really really serious about this.

Good morning TOD! Enjoying this last precious year of President Obama.

On my way out to work and then have a much-needed afternoon at the local Korean spa 🙂 Yay!

Been meaning to share this article. It’s from last year but it explains a lot of what has been going on with the Sanders campaign:

The Right Baits the Left to Turn Against Hillary Clinton

    From the article:
“The idea is to make her life difficult in the primary and challenge her from the left,” said Colin Reed, America Rising’s executive director. “We don’t want her to enter the general election not having been pushed from the left, so if we have opportunities — creative ways, especially online — to push her from the left, we’ll do it just to show those folks who she needs to turn out that she’s not in line with them.”

“It can diminish enthusiasm for Hillary among the base over time,” he said. “And if you diminish enthusiasm, lukewarm support can translate into lackluster fund-raising and perhaps diminished turnout down the road.”

“Other groups are also using micro-targeted advertising to inject their content into the Facebook and Twitter news feeds of “liberal Democrats,” environmentalists and declared supporters of Ms. Warren, among others.

“You might start looking at union households. You might start looking at Bernie Sanders’s core of support,” Mr. Moffatt said, referring to Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination.”

I do not understand why the DSCC isn’t helping candidates like Patty Judge in Iowa. She doesn’t have a web page to speak of – This is it: http://www.pattyjudgeforiowa.com – and she barely posts on twitter. She really needs help! This is the perfect opportunity to unseat Grassley since so many are standing up against his refusal to hold a hearing on Garland. Get moving, Dems!

This is a tad misleading. The bishop had reached the mandatory retirement age. That being said, Pope Francis may just have let him run out the clock instead of canning his ass.

Snyder: Staff deceived him, told him Flint water was OK night before he learned it wasn’t
    6:49 p.m. EDT April 11, 2016

The night before he learned about the Flint water crisis, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder said he received a briefing “telling me that there really isn’t a problem in Flint. That these outside experts aren’t correct.”

The next day, Sept. 28, 2015, he had a conference call with the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality and Department of Health and Human Services.

“And I get on the call, and I push them, and they tell me, ‘It looks like there is a problem,'” he said Monday morning, taking questions at the Michigan Chronicle’s 11th annual Pancakes and Politics breakfast at the Detroit Athletic Club. “That’s the kind of thing you never want to see. And talk about being upset, I was upset.”

Snyder was on stage about an hour this morning at the event attended by roughly a couple of hundred people. He spoke about his plans to help Flint, his goals for education, and positive developments in the state’s economy since he assumed office in 2011.

Flint’s water continues to be deemed unsafe for human consumption, with high enough levels of lead recorded in some homes to cause potentially permanent brain damage in children.
