    Reminder Part 1 tonight 9PM EST http://www.pbs.org/kenburns/jackie-robinson/

“…Part 1 of “Jackie Robinson,” Monday on PBS, revisits this history, with Robinson’s widow, Rachel, the principal guide. It remains one of the pivotal stories of 20th-century America, simultaneously stirring and infuriating, with Robinson blazing a trail despite blatant and entrenched racism. But it’s in Part 2 on Tuesday night that venture into the less clear-cut part of Robinson’s life, when he became more outspoken about civil rights yet wasn’t always viewed heroically. He had begun being more vocal even during his playing career, and after he stopped playing — 1956 was his last season — he used his fame more aggressively in the public arena.

“Part of what I admire about Jackie Robinson is precisely his ability to approach baseball and those first two years of integration in ways that were contrary to his character, or his fundamental sense of what was right and wrong, in service of a larger cause,” President Obama says at the start of Part 2. “But that’s not something that made sense for him to sustain. He had purchased the right to speak his mind many times over.”….“Jackie Robinson in the 1940s is the symbol of black masculinity,” the historian Yohuru Williams notes. “By the 1960s, that narrative has changed, and what you see with people like Muhammad Ali and Jim Brown is a much more militant, in-your-face view of black masculinity.” So the second half of Robinson’s story — he died in 1972 — becomes a fascinating study of fame during an era of tumult. It’s almost impossible to stay ahead of a wave of rapid change; today’s heroes are tomorrow’s afterthoughts. Only with the passage of time does the lasting import of a life like Robinson’s become clear again.”

The timing of this movement is suspect to say the least. POTUS has campaign on the issue and made the argument at every turn. Yet, the issue has not galvanized any leftist until the Senator from Vermont realized that he is not winning the
    Democratic nomination.

I’m hearing more and more outrageous beliefs from these people. The worst part: I think BS believes this. Thom Hartmann, and the rest of the loony left do – that chaos (that will decimate lives and even kill thousands of Americans) will automatically become Utopia. It is beyond insane.

They will totally get rid of the Wall St. model, all health insurance, cut off trade globally. There is no room to discuss the consequences. I can’t believe I am living to see such idiocy on the national stage. Sigh.

        • April 12, 2016 at 7:03 pm

I guess they don’t have retirement accounts or 401ks and their relatives don’t either. It is scary because the arguments get more extreme, Hillary becomes more evil by the minute, and their view of democracy is ever more warped. The two political parties are ‘extra-legal cartels that have usurped power’. They truly are the Tea Party of the left and they are trying to do to the Democrats what the TP has done to the GOP. I wish this election were over.

Executives from 19 major corporations came to the White House on Monday after agreeing to sign a pledge to take measures including “banning the box” on job applications — the practice of asking applicants whether they have criminal records. Obama has directed the federal government to end the practice in its own hiring and delay questioning applicants about their criminal histories.

The White House hopes that by recruiting a diverse set of marquee companies to the cause, the administration can persuade other businesses to overhaul their hiring practices and give more convicts a second chance.

Georgia State Capitol police on Monday warned that an anti-Muslim militant planned to hold an unpermitted, gun-toting demonstration outside the statehouse on April 18, where he plans to desecrate a Quran and other items.

…the Georgia Building Authority refused to grant James Stachowiak a permit for his “United against Islam and Islamic immigration refugee rally” at Liberty Plaza.

But Stachowiak plans to hold his rally anyway.

The Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations is asking organizers of an armed, anti-Muslim rally planned for the state Capitol next week to cancel the event.

Short of cancellation, the Islamic group is urging Muslims and others “to ignore [the protest] so as to deprive the organizers of the free publicity they seek for their message of hate.”

On CNN, Wolf asks a low-level Republican congresspuke, whom nobody ever heard of, if it’s “appropriate” for President Obama to “weigh in” on former SoS Clinton’s e-mail controversy.

He was her freakin’ boss. The State Department reports to him; they further his policies. He’s still the President, although she’s out of the administration now. He retains a higher classification and/or declassification authority than she did.

Appropriate, Wolf? Kiss my Democratic ass!

  30. April 11, 2016 at 6:48 pm

It’s the most explosive question of the 2016 presidential campaign: Could Hillary Clinton get indicted for her handling of sensitive materials through her home email server?

A POLITICO review of dozens of recent federal investigations for mishandling of classified records suggests that it’s highly unlikely…

The examination, which included cases spanning the past two decades, found some with parallels to Clinton’s use of a private server for her emails, but — in nearly all instances that were prosecuted — aggravating circumstances that don’t appear to be present in Clinton’s case.

The relatively few cases that drew prosecution almost always involved a deliberate intent to violate classification rules…

I’m sorry, I really don’t get this. His kids are several, if not a dozen years older than 18 yrs of age, the age where you can first register to vote. And all one has to do is register once, unless you move to a different state. As long as you vote in, I think it is, a presidential election every 4 yrs your registration stays in effect. Are they saying they have never registered to vote, never voted in any election in this country? And they call themselves patriots?? What is so very wrong with this picture?

What is means is EITHER they never voted (as rich as they are, they might not care) OR they haven’t bothered to change their party affiliation, from Democrat or Independent, now that Daddy’s a Rethug.

They are suing the Federal government, including the President and several agencies, for not doing enough. I am not necessarily agreeing with them, just giving you more info on this. Here is another article from Bill Moyers that explains more. Billmoyers.com/episode/full-show-climate-crusade/ This is about the Children’s Climate Crusade that started in Oregon, trying to get the state of Oregon to further curb carbon emissions.

The young man in the front right of the photo, the one with the microphone, is Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, now 15 yrs old, who has been speaking out on climate change since he was 6yrs old. Link to article on him billmoyers.com/2014/12/05/14-year-old-voice-climate-change-generation/. I’ve seen him twice at the Bioneers Conference. He is simply pushing for all of us to do more, to move more quickly on this issue, since it will affect our youth much more than it will affect us older folks. So if that means filing a lawsuit against the US govt! then that is what they do. So please don’t take it personally about our beloved PBO. It is what you do when filing lawsuits. You name the company as a whole AND it’s leaders individually.

Heck, this lawsuit might bring to light for the general public how little Congress is actually doing these days. Nothing else seems to be working, so if these kids figure out a way, I’m all for that.

Senator Sanders – Stop the Harassing Phone Calls

    April 6, 2016

    Dear Senator Bernie Sanders

I have heard many complaints from other unbound Delegates to our National Convention in Philadelphia (my hometown), about getting harassing emails, Facebook postings and phone calls, even to one woman at 10:30 at night, from some of your supporters demanding that we support you. We would expect this type of bullying tactics from Trump supporters. Roger Stone threatened on April 5th- he will send angry Trump supporters to the hotel rooms (Cleveland) of any delegates who betrays Donald. Do you have a similar Plan?

I have seen you on TV stating (demanding to many of your supporters) that Superdelegates should vote for the candidate that won their state. Really? Where is that in the National Delegate Plan that former Vermont Governor Howard Dean must vote for you? Congressman Raul Grijalva, a supporter of yours, who represents the 3rd district in Arizona, a state that voted 58% for Clinton and Grijalva’s own district voted 61.7% for Clinton has not switched. Where is your letter to Congressman Grijalva, instructing him to shift his support to Clinton? Look in the mirror- you’ll see a political hypocrite! From what I hear, Congressman Grijalva, when asked if he is shifting his support to Clinton, his response- drop dead. That is his right- he is a Congressman, thus a delegate.

Society has been trying to deal with High School bullies and the same Rule should apply to your campaign and your supporters. Us active Democrats enjoy healthy discussions and debates at meetings, Caucuses and Conventions but it is unacceptable for us to get harassing communications from bullies. As a Clinton supporter, I have not received harassing phone calls but it does appear women DNC Members are getting the brunt of the threats. Professionally, campaign staff and representatives should be the ones calling delegates. A 12 year old child answering the phone at home should not be hearing threats.

Most of us DNC Members have been in the Democratic Party vineyards for years, as have the Clintons. For me it has been over 40 years. I became disillusioned with the war in Vietnam (I had volunteered for the Paratroopers and Vietnam), after being wounded in March 1968 (101st Airborne), it was the beginning for me to turning to politics. So those of us with callouses on our Democratic Party hands (something lacking with you, not even going to our National Conventions to vote for our nominees), we notice things, such as not one US Senator is supporting you. Not even Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy. We noticed what you said to Rachel Maddow (March 30, 2016) when she said that Secretary Clinton has raised millions for the Democratic Party (DNC, DCCC, DSCC and State Parties) and asked you- will you do the same? You said, “We’ll see.” I fell off my chair. The Koch brothers announced a $900 million dollar plan against Democrats, and we have a big ticket from Governors to Congress to races in all states and your answer- we’ll see. Our nominee for President has to help raise tens of millions of dollars all over our country. We cannot afford a selfish nominee.

I would urge that you and your staff publicly state that you want all harassing communications to DNC members to stop. In 2008, I received a phone call from a US Senator, urging me to support Senator Obama – a very professional and courteous call.

    Bob Mulholland
    DNC Member
    Chico, CA

P.S. In case no one clued you in- that NY Times piece (April 4, 2016) with Jeff Weaver and Tad Devine providing “background material,” is a standard practice by some consultants. They are getting very nervous. They are laying out the “DNA evidence,” that the candidate (you) will lose and it is your fault, not theirs. A suggestion for you- you need to be better prepared yourself- you’re coming across as shrill.

P.P.S. Secretary Clinton has received about 58% of the vote so far, thus ahead of you by 2,400,000 votes and 250 Pledged Delegates. We also notice that the Base of our Party is voting overwhelmingly for Secretary Clinton.
