Morning everyone, a gazillion thanks for all the good wishes for my mother, and 10 gazillion sorries for not being around at all this week and leaving all the work to the legend that is Nerdy. I’m back on the road again in a few minutes, it looks like the move to a convalescence home will *finally* happen today. Will definitely try to catch up with you all this evening, huge thanks again to Nerdy.

Pope Francis has published new guidelines on family life that argue the Church should show more understanding of modern realities.

The document, based on two Synods on the issue, was eagerly awaited by the world’s 1.3bn Roman Catholics.

Entitled “On Love in the Family”, it does not change Catholic doctrine.

But it opens the way for bishops in each country to interpret doctrine to suit their own culture, the BBC’s religion correspondent reports.

The document lists the Pope’s views on family life, marriage, contraception and bringing up children.

It is the culmination of three years’ work by the Pope, who sent a questionnaire to families across the world asking them about their hopes and their fears.

Hola from Espana, TOD and sorry to have been out of touch during Chips’ mother’s fractured arm episode. We came here to celebrate our 45th anniversary. The sunshine, sangria, and tapas have been lovely, but now it’s time to try to find a flight home. Alycee, we got to Rota on space A and are hanging out at the base hoping to repeat the trip in reverse. XOXO

Thank you so much for bringing this clip to us today. I have tears in my eyes. So much can be done with a spirit of hospitality and I mean that in the deepest sense. I am so so proud of the first couple. They bring us to a beautiful place whenever they are involved in anything. All the potential of the human race acting in compassion, creativity and competence is embodied in their lives. We are so blessed. We really are.

BLM activists may be too young to understand the context of the 94 crime bill. Many Black leaders wanted that law to be passed in response to the crime wave sweeping through inner city communities. This is something we need to remember now as we criticize that bill.

Legislation that would have set minimum standards for passenger space aboard commercial aeroplanes has failed to pass in the US Senate.

In recent years, airlines looking for cost savings have reduced the sizes of seats and cut the amount of passenger legroom, among other changes.

Passengers have often complained about the increasingly cramped quarters.

Some flights have been disrupted after disputes broke out among passengers because of seating arrangements.

“It costs you an arm and a leg just to have room for your arms and legs,” said Senator Chuck Schumer, who sponsored the amendment, which was attached to a broader aviation bill.

Many airlines now charge passengers if they want more legroom.

Under the legislation, airlines would have been barred from further reducing the “size, width, padding and pitch” of seats. It also addressed legroom and the width of the aisles.

Airline companies opposed the bill saying the measure was attempting to “re-regulate” the industry.

The amendment failed 42-54 with all but one Republican voting against the legislation.

    well voters/nonvoters, you built this.

After grilling Sanders on his comment that Clinton should apologize for deaths in the Iraq war, Rose asked Sanders if he will support Clinton in the general election if she wins the nomination.

“I think the idea of a Donald Trump or a Ted Cruz presidency would be an unmitigated disaster for this country. I will do everything in my power and work as hard as I can to make sure that that does not happen,” Sanders replied. “And if Secretary Clinton is the nominee, I will certainly support her.”

The real question is: Will your purity, glitter shitting pony supporters do the same? Especially after your crazy talk…you really can’t “unring the bell”!! You better start talking about this NOW, Bern.

To underscore PF58’s point she urgently reminds us — this is why Dems sitting on their behinds during primaries (and midterm elections, which we already know about, given the absolute debacles of 2010 and 2014) is such a horror.

Any Dem who says they won’t vote if #FeelTheBern is not the nominee, tell them to take a look at this week’s Wisconsin primary.

(Still can’t find the article where I read that the Wisconsin supreme court allowed voter ID in 2014 😦 .)

Wisconsin’s voter-ID scheme comes into sharper focus
    04/07/16 04:00 PM—UPDATED 04/07/16 04:02 PM
    By Steve Benen

Rep. Glenn Grothman (R), a far-right freshman from Wisconsin, generated national headlines this week when he admitted on television what many have long assumed. Looking ahead to this year’s presidential election, the Republican congressman expressed confidence about the GOP doing well in the Badger State, thanks in part to one specific policy.

“[N]ow we have photo ID,” Grothman said, “and I think photo ID is going to make a little bit of a difference.”

At least in public, Republicans are supposed to say voter-ID schemes have nothing to do with rigging elections by suppressing voting rights, though some on the right occasionally slip and accidentally tell the truth, as Grothman helped prove.

Now, another shoe has fallen. A former Republican staffer in the Wisconsin legislature wrote a Facebook message this week, confirming that he saw GOP state lawmakers who, while considering voter-ID measures, “were giddy about the ramifications and literally singled out the prospects of suppressing minority and college voters.”

The staffer talked to MSNBC’s Zack Roth today about the Republicans’ disenfranchisement campaign in Wisconsin.

Todd Allbaugh, who served as chief of staff to a Republican state senator, said in an interview Wednesday that at a closed-door caucus meeting in 2011, GOP lawmakers openly discussed how the ID bill would hit minorities and students hardest.

“One of the senators said, ‘We need to think about the ramifications here, what this means, particularly in Milwaukee and college campuses across the state, what that could mean for us,’” said Allbaugh. “What I’m interested in here is winning, and we need to use the opportunity, because if Democrats had the power to do it to us, they’d do it,” another senator said, according to Allbaugh.
