I suspect that the majority of the people that show up to see Bernie Sanders didn’t vote for President Obama in 2012 and didn’t vote in the midterms. It just doesn’t make sense to me that someone that voted for President Obama twice would vote for Bernie, it’s not logical. You can’t be an Obama supporter and turn around and vote for Bernie Sanders. Like a famous lawyer once said, “if it don’t fit, you must not vote for it.”
I really don’t understand his appeal. He’s a whiny scold, his ideas are thin and limited, theres no substance to his agenda, no there there, and he’s mean, vindictive and aggressive in a way that’s ugly and destructive. I honestly don’t get it. So, YES, I agree with you 100%, they never supported PBO. Other than the professional left yahoos and burned out emoprogs, I really don’t understand why he’s gotten this far at all.
^5 meta. Not a single cell of anything resembling presidentiality in this ones energy field. I am so tired of seeing the pictures of the ugly ones. They all look ugly to me. Easier to stay offline – in fact, I’ll go do laundry now! More productive! ❤️
Ha – my friend and I call laundry “the non-work” (a very big draw here in retirementland – where there’s never enough time to do nothing). You just pop it in, and then can sit around and eat bon bons – and still feel productive!
My dream: dishwasher going, washer going, dryer going, Roomba going, crock pot going, breadmaker going and me sitting on the couch knitting/reading/whatever and at the same time being VERY PRODUCTIVE!!! 😀
LOL!! Laundry, dishes, all the daily rounds tasks, very meditative and grounding! Perhaps if more of our politicians had to do such simple chores, they might remember what life is about for most.
Oh, meta, good morning. Not to make you self-conscious about “sharing,” but every time I read one of your rapier, impassioned take-downs, it not only reminds me of my dear NJ roots, which I mean in a good way (miss NJ people who know how to tell it like it is!), but you always find exactly the right words, the right language, the right context, and the right brevity and tone to use …
… while remaining classy about it …
… and I laugh and laugh. This one’s ready for a campaign billboard. Brava!
I understand anti-establishment sentiment — hard to believe that any American who was a teen during the Vietnam War wasn’t anti-establishment then.
While a freshman at UCLA, traveled to the VA in WLA with a group of guys (boys to men) from my dorm for them to register for the Selective Service draft. The WestLA Veteran’s Adm. building overlooks the Veteran’s cemetery, so while they were filling out the forms on the 10th (guessing) floor we had a great view of vets KIA.
But I don’t understand rudeness and closed-mindedness, which are Berniebots behavior standards. Prefer civil society, not insults and condescension.
From your timeline this morning:
He's gone from preventing the coronation of HRC to overtly sabotaging the Democratic Party and Obama's legacy in this election.
I was very much counterculture myself during that time period. But that’s not how I feel about the Obama years at all. I’m in agreement with how PBO is handling how the world has changed. I appreciate his modern approach and his resolution of the most complex affairs, both domestic and global. I approve of the progress he’s made. So I’m not in the camp that understands fully the substance of Sanders & his supporters. The shaking of fists and yelling of soundbites are no longer enough for me. I need substance and PBO is more than enough in that department. He has served a banquet!
Absolutely stellar statement, encapsulates why Obots *cherish* this President.
He considers all angles, seeks input from all (especially those who disagree with him, because he’s always learning).
Have no idea what college freshman orientation is like now, but it would be a huge benefit for incoming freshman to be reminded that you can always learn from other people — regardless of what your snap judgment of that person is.
So many doors of opportunity for *everyone* in the world have been opened by the love, respect, hard work and focus that President and First Lady bring to their jobs.
Although we in TODville know that further greatness awaits Barack and Michelle, it is going to be so hard to let them go next January. 😦
Remember when I said I talked my Constitutionalist Ron Paul supporter into voting for Obama both terms? My brother is also a conspiracy theorist and his first source of news is the Drudge Report. He believes every conspiracy about the Clintons especially the murders, the drug connections and on and on. So there is no way he would ever vote for Hillary. The fact that he is supporting Bernie is okay by me as it beats the other side. However, if she wins I can see him voting GOP. BTW, he is educated and an architect. My other brother lives in MT and is a perfect fit for the bitter guy holding onto his Bible and gun that Then SBO referred to at the fundraiser during the first campaign. He is a died in the wool Redneck Conservative. I felt I did good to talk both my Mom and Dad as well as one of my brothers, even reregistered them to the Democratic Party for the Primary in 2008, to vote for Barack Obama. My four grown kids, and their spouses also voted for PBO. I was involved with OFA and my kids caucused in their states and even were elected district delegates and another volunteered as a lawyer to observe in her voting precinct. All were involved in both term elections.
This time all are pretty well split between Bernie and Hillary. I cannot make a dent in my family with the Bernie supporters. I believe they will all vote for the Dem nominee when the time comes. Maybe the 2008 campaign colored their opinions on Hillary making it easier to go with Bernie.
Good West Coast morning NW, Chipsticks & TOD family.
That’s funny NW!!! 😀 😀
Congrats amk on First! I love your new puppy. How does Jenny feel about her? Have you given her a name that begins with a “J” yet?
Details man, I want details 🙂
Well, if you would give up this information voluntarily, I’d be more…quiet? LOL!!!
Now, tell me, how did this new addition come to be in your orbit?
Who does she really belong to? Wifey Unit, Daughter Unit, ?????? Did you win her at a Raffle?
Ain’t that the truth. Squandering money that is hard to come by from his supporters. Who, exactly, is corrupt? Who, exactly, is “honest and trustworthy?” He’s starting to terrify me.
A poll released Wednesday shows Bernie Sanders trailing Hillary Clinton in Pennsylvania by six points, while both Democratic candidates lag behind Ohio Gov. John Kasich in a hypothetical fall match-up in the Keystone State.
The poll, released by Quinnipiac University, also shows Republican frontrunner Donald Trump leading Ted Cruz, 39%-30%. Kasich trails in third at 24%, but is the only Republican candidate who beat Clinton or Sanders in a head-to-head matchup in the key swing state, pollsters noted.
In a statement on the poll, Assistant Director Tim Malloy noted that no candidate has won the presidency since 1960 without winning two out of the three swing states of Pennsylvania, Florida and Ohio.
“Kasich is ahead of Clinton and Sanders in his home state (of Ohio), and now we see how strong he is next door, if he can jump over Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz,” Malloy said.
To get that word right you have to do a sort of throat-clearing sound on the ‘ch’. I guess he went at it a little too vigorously 😀 (We have the same sound in Welsh)
Love this one! PBO is a warrior for all americans. Obama kung fu means killing you with kindness and using your opponents moves against themselves. It means being tough enough to withstand all barrages your opponents throw at you and the wisdom to plot the path forward.
Just wonder if a mechanism exists by which the Executive Branch can bring suit against the Legislative Branch on behalf of the people – a case truly worthy of Supreme Court ruling.
Three separate and coequal branches so I think that’s definitely a NO. Only we the people can get this done. We need to win against those who are addicted to their hate to the detriment of America. We have to out vote them.
Respectfully, US District Court Federal Judge ruled, last year, that House Republicans could sue the Executive Branch to stop federal funding for health care. That suit is still active.
What Senate Republicans are doing is a far more grievous violation of the Constitution, besides being harmful to Americans.
David Corn just repeated on MSNBC what he says his 15-year-old daughter said about watching the brouhaha between Clinton and Sanders:
“It’s like watching your grandparents fight.”
Corn reiterated that it’s all about making sure whichever candidate loses the nomination is still able to bring his or her people around to the winning candidate.
Then Joan Walsh comes on, hair on fire, and says Bernie’s comments about Hillary are “sexist.” Not that again! Hillary can hold her own, it’s not 2008, no need to mention gender in my book between these two candidates if SHE isn’t mentioning it (unless I missed something there)!
If it’s sexist, call it out. If it is just normal back-and-forth mud-slinging, don’t.
MY issue with this is..that this the media’s classic…both sides do it..when it is Sanders’ incompetence that has been exposed…and he is scrambling to divert attention from his NYDN disastorous interview…and of course the media is more than happy to go along with it
The media “loves” a good thriller. Just heard Claire MaCaskill speak about moving beyond it … go back to talking about what both candidates have in common … of course, to stress that we have to come together for November. I think Hillary will go back to doing that before Sanders will (think she’s started already). She is working hard for the position to be POTUS and I am okay with voting for her. Who knows, maybe I will make a donation if she keeps on doing what she is doing and refrains from bashing POTUS.
Ya’ll know she wasn’t my first, second, third or even fourth choice but given the lack of an alternative…..”shrug”. Anyway, I watched the debates play out and let the actions speak for itself. And her actions show she is doing the hard work herself and is earning her stripes. All that fake protectionist bull crap is not needed. Folks whining that Sanders should drop out are not helping. Let her do her thing and they can work to get out the vote.
Repubs in my neighborhood are considering voting for HRC. and in the words of our wonderful VP Biden, that is a BFD. They don’t like her or trust her but the alternative is not an option. And the reason they took that second look was because of HRC’s behavior during these recent months. She proved that she can take a lick and go toe to toe if she has to and is no longer resistant to standing up and speaking her mind without first gauging which way the wind/poll is blowing.
From @petercashmore’s (apt last name?) memo to staff:

Whadda ya think? Kind of catchy, no?

Hey, tweeters, let’s get this out there!
Because Sanders is paying this guy enough money to choke a whale.
Ain’t that the truth. Squandering money that is hard to come by from his supporters. Who, exactly, is corrupt? Who, exactly, is “honest and trustworthy?” He’s starting to terrify me.
If I knew how to ‘like’ your comment I would!
Bam!

Especially since she gave exactly the same reasons in her statement at the time.
good luck with that – nominate someone who could only win his home state
Yet another poll suggests Kasich is Republicans’ best hope in November
A poll released Wednesday shows Bernie Sanders trailing Hillary Clinton in Pennsylvania by six points, while both Democratic candidates lag behind Ohio Gov. John Kasich in a hypothetical fall match-up in the Keystone State.

By they, I mean Republicans.

Yep.
Ditto what Don said
Sounds disgusting and nasty Jacqueline.
Yep.
To get that word right you have to do a sort of throat-clearing sound on the ‘ch’. I guess he went at it a little too vigorously 😀 (We have the same sound in Welsh)
Holy. Shit.
Yes, keep stepping in it, Bernie. Let ’em see the real you.

That the first word is ‘awe’ says it all!
Wow, I hadn’t thought of it that way. Awesome!
The President’s words – perfect.
Kirk’s – gag!
… and Tammy is STILL gonna kick his ass in November.
Yup… this reluctant capitulation will not save him. It’s a safe one for him.
I think PBO will take it any way he can get it.
Welp!
And the same could definitely be said for all of the candidates on the GOP side, including the ones who dropped out.
On the one hand … yes, please:
On the other hand, making a joke about it works for me! 🙂
LOL!

Serious, sincere question ….
Just wonder if a mechanism exists by which the Executive Branch can bring suit against the Legislative Branch on behalf of the people – a case truly worthy of Supreme Court ruling.
Sounds good to me!
all roberts gotta do is not to side the rw’ers on a few decisions. the rethugs will be crapping in their pants then.

“Hillary can hold her own”
Exactly Jacquelineoboomer.
I made no secret how I felt about HRC and the original plan of a coronation…..but she figured out that was not an option and she had to get some skin in the game. Hillary has come a long way.
She does not need protection. She is fine.
Well said (very well said). Agree with it all! And good for the Repubs in your neighborhood – they actually sound SANE, so there’s still HOPE! 🙂
BS is doubling down:

Hi Mrs. Obama! I love you! 😄
New post.

You know, this is one reason I hate corporations (it’s all about money, and despite their protestations, never about people):
Many of you follow @nycjim, who apparently has been dumped by @mashable.
From @petercashmore’s (apt last name?) memo to staff:
“I must also share the news that Jim Roberts will be moving on from the
company. Jim has been instrumental in building Mashable into a truly
global media brand. He has built an editorial team that stands for
trust, credibility and accuracy, allowing us to compete with some of
the world’s most established media companies. He is an incredible
leader and mentor who has inspired us all to reach new heights. It has
been an honor to build this brand together.”
What happened?
GA Dudette.
Have no idea, but know Jim Roberts worked very hard for Mashable.
Hope he got a good compensation package, but he must feel at least a little betrayed. (Reposted on next thread, in case others have more info than I do.)
