      Hi Chips and Thanks Nerdy.

The interview up top with First Lady Michelle, Lena Dunham and Julianne Moore was unputdownable. It goes for about an hour.
Inspiring and fabulous. Dunham’s newsletter is http://www.lennyletter.com/ and in it there’s an article by FLOTUS on global girls’ learning.
In the interview, Moore describes how her interest in gun safety was summarily Headlined as being ‘anti-gun”.
Though she didn’t say this in the interview – we all know this is the strategy used by the NRA gun lobby anytime the word “gun” is used.
And trashing the projects of celebrities has long been a right wing strategy.

In Milwaukee County alone, an estimated 91,000 people lack a proper ID. Experts hired by the state to testify in a lawsuit over the ID law said up to 300,000 eligible voters statewide could be disenfranchised, while voting rights advocates say the true number could be much higher. Because the state will hand out delegates on Tuesday to whichever candidate wins each congressional district, a small number of people disenfranchised by the law could have a major impact on the 2016 race.

PF, I have a suggestion as to how this can be addressed. I typed in “Wisconsin elected officials”. The site covers President Obama all the way down to County Representatives. It even included a list of Supporting Organizations. People in Wisconsin who are interested in getting the much needed PSA’s that are reported in this article out on the radio and television should contact these Supporting Organizations. I bet they have discretionary funds that would cover the ad costs.

      NOTHING BUT A POLL TAX

      • April 3, 2016 at 6:02 pm

yes it is….and it is cutting deep…they have refined their voter suppression…i just want to scream

      • April 3, 2016 at 7:29 pm

Exactly, Rickyrah! Just as the Conservative Supreme Courts in the past gave legal sanction to disfaranchisement schemes like poll-tax and literacy tests, the Roberts’ Supreme Court gave legal sanction to the modern disfaranchisement schemes of requiring photo IDs for voting. As judge Posner pointed out, trying to obtain a government issued photo ID is not cheap. It costs “$75-175 to obtain a government issued photo ID” in Wisconsin. For poor people, and especially elderly people on fixed income, that’s no champ change!

Every American citizen should be able to go to the polls + cast a ballot – tell Congress: http://trib.al/ugzo74B

    • April 3, 2016 at 6:14 pm

And these are the voters we need to help us win! And so many stupid Sanders supporters “Wah wah won’t vote”. Seriously, how dare they call themselves progressives and then put their little hurt feelings before the very lives of their fellow citizens?? (I know, they aren’t really progressive).

      • April 3, 2016 at 7:51 pm

The vast majority of them are privileged progressives! Millionaires like Susan Serandon and Michael Moore won’t be affected if the Republicans win the presidency and consolidate the control of Congress.

        • April 3, 2016 at 7:55 pm

Exactly. and with so many being denied their right to vote, it’s particularly important for us privileged souls to vote responsibly.

          • April 3, 2016 at 9:13 pm

Indeed! What’s a pity is the holier than thou purity progressives did not learn any lesson from the 2000 election that gave us George W. Bush.

            • April 4, 2016 at 12:02 am

Speaking of which, this is a very good article written in 2003 as we were about to reelect G. W. Bush. It’s an interview with a well-known playwright who has some pretty stringent things to say about purity progressives. The first part is about his plays; the political part is about half way down. http://www.motherjones.com/media/2003/11/tony-kushner-radical-pragmatist

Here’s the last bit, but you should read the whole thing.

“George W. Bush was — is — a little robot programmed by his daddy to punish Saddam Hussein and get as much money for the petrochemical bandits. It’s absolutely jaw-dropping that Democrats saw that and decided instead that they wanted to send a message to their own party that they weren’t happy with it for some relatively minor offense. Why didn’t we turn out in vast numbers for Gore? Why did we vote for Ralph Nader or not at all? We would absolutely not be in Iraq today if we had a Democratic president in the White House, and I don’t need to know any more than that.”

“U.K.-based tech enthusiast Mrwhosetheboss posted a now-viral tutorial on YouTube that shows how to turn any smartphone into a hologram projector. Here’s what you need: graph paper, a CD case (you’ll have to get rid of them one day), tape or super glue, a pen, scissors, a smartphone and a knife or glass cutter. “To build the projector, draw a small rhombus on the graph paper, use that template to cut out four rhombus shapes with the plastic from the CD case, tape the four plastic cut-outs together, place the 3D construction over your smartphone, load up a “hologram-specific video” (like this one), press play — and voilà! A homemade hologram! You can increase the size of projector’s rhombus template as much as you like, Mrwhosetheboss noted, as long as the projector fits atop your smartphone screen when you’re done.”

REALLY? How cheap are you that your wife files ALL your tax returns? I pay a tax preparer and I AM AN ACCOUNTANT, I KNOW TAXES, and don’t do my own. I purchased Turbo Tax and it took me a whole week to complete and I still made mistakes the IRS corrected that fortunately were in my favor. Besides, why can’t she produce older ones like 2008 through 2013? I have all my copies….something does not smell right with this answer.

        April 3, 2016 at 5:48 pm

        Ya think!

We’ve had a tax person do our returns since forever. Used to cost $100 for the two – now it costs about $250 for the two (every individual files separately in my world). Given the cost is deductible – best money we spend each year. One phone call would get a digital copy of all our returns for the past 10 years.

      • April 3, 2016 at 6:20 pm

I do mine with Turbo Tax, but they aren’t complicated. I think maybe Sanders has some Wall Street investments he doesn’t want his supporters to know about? Which, if true, is really stupid and is the result of him demonizing all of Wall Street. On the other hand, maybe there is no ‘there’ there and he’s just being annoying. But that allows people to draw their own conclusions – always a risky business. Better to get it over with now instead of waiting for the national election (if he gets that far – God forbid but he seems to think he can) when the Republicans will rip the bandaid off pretty painfully.

And here j am the past few days thinking tehbern should voluntarily reduce his own salary to $15/hr, as an example to the rest of congress and all politicians everywhere. Also in solidarity with us poor people, to show he really walks his walk. Ain’t gonna happen, right? Bah.

    • April 3, 2016 at 7:57 pm

Poor wife! You mean a U.S. Senator, who is paid a six figure income, is so cheap that he can’t afford to hire a tax accountant?

Question- If Sanders cannot even comply with the election requirements: show taxes and campaign and raise money for the down ticket Dems how can he fulfill the many Presidential requirements which come fast and furious?

“OLO uses white light from smartphones to create detailed 3D prints. Startup OLO has built a 3D printer around necessary light from a smartphone. The team has been hard at work for two years design the case, reinventing mechanics and re-engineering microchips, which resulted in a portable, easy to use printer made of only seven plastic parts, one chip and one motor. Alongside the hardware, the company introduced a line of materials called ‘daylight resins’, which harden under white light of a smartphone screen. It’s case was made specifically to filter out all harmful external light to maximize the precision of the print, where it can reach 42 micron resolution.

Weighing just over a pound, the printer’s size allows users to take it with them in a bag. With 400 cubic centimeters of printing volume, it can fit almost any phone, including the large ‘iPhone 6S+’ and ‘galaxy A7’. with four AA batteries which power the motor, give it the freedom to printer anywhere that will last up to 100 prints. OLO have setup a funding campaign on kickstarter, with plans to delivery the final product August 2016.”

Meet a Wisconsin family that had to pay $68 to vote in 2016. And they’re not alone:

      • April 3, 2016 at 9:22 pm

I think $68 dollars is comparable to the $2 dollar poll-tax enacted by Mississippi in 1890. Moreover, there are studies that show that trying to obtain a government issued photo ID may cost as much as $175! On top of that, just imagine the stress that people have to endure, but especially the elderly, to try to obtain these government issued photo IDs.

I’m really curious about these allegations of cheating. I was talking online last night to two Clinton supporters who were delegates at the Clark County convention. One had received the email stating that they did not have to show up on Saturday. He went to pre-register but the line was so long he gave up and went on Saturday. According to him, the mailer was accurate- unless a delegate wanted to switch their vote they did not have to come on Saturday. When you registered you marked who you were voting for and it was recorded. He was at the convention until it was over and there were no other votes taken. He and the other delegate said that there were a lot of Sanders’ people there, many from out of town who were leading chants to get their crowd on their feet and chanting, and also passing out refreshments and Sanders paraphernalia. One of them said he was the last in line to get in and as far as he could see no one was barred or blocked from entering. He said he was checked in by a Sanders supporter and the Sanders supporter next to him was checked in by a Clinton supporter (just by chance) and there didn’t seem to be any funny business. Plus I saw at least one Sanders supporter online saying she had received the same email and accusing the Clinton campaign of dirty tricks. There were many Sanders supporters that didn’t show up too. Except for the letter sent by the lawyer the night before I haven’t seen anything reported officially from the Clinton campaign about this. I wonder if it was a big screw up by an incompetent person dealing with a massively complicated and little understood process. Apparently a some of the delegates didn’t really understand the process by which the final state delegates were picked.

At what point can DOJ start filling lawsuits? To be clear, SCOTUS gutted the pre screening section of VRA, but NOT the actual elements of the act. Primaries should be proof of the onerous provisions of voter suppression laws in the states.

    A thought for Wisconsin.
How about having a series of gospel artist as well as local R&B artists putting on concerts to help raise money for the Poll Taxes. It would throw a bright light on the unfair difficulty and possibly galvanize the upper and middle class to get involved in the election process between now and November. Each County could register those who need necessary documents and … This process could go in many directions.
    Political activists could do wonders…
