I just wish that this kind of help and attitude had been extended to A-As when the crack epidemic decimated lives and communities. The so-called “crack babies” are adults now and for many the suffering continues. While everyone should get help when they needed, especially our young people, I cannot help but feel a little bitter that nothing is considered a problem in this country until it hits middle income white kids.

      GM CEB.

You’re absolutely right that our MSM has a severe case of #Romnesia and fail to scratch the surface of current news, so forget about reminding their audience of anything that happened in the past.

I coined an acronym WSSQ (white supremacy status quo) that sherijr and I discussed awhile ago (perhaps a better acronym would be WPSQ [white power status quo]) — and MSM’s style guide requires that all reports reflect white as the default POV.

If it’s any consolation, here’s a tweet from a Canadian reporter (Washington correspondent for the Toronto Star) who can see the bleeding obvious that US MSM dare not speak:

  6. March 29, 2016 at 2:41 pm

Of course, I’m still on the last page…….

I actually saw Sarandon yesterday on All In, and I was blown away at how full-blown delusional she is. Just WOW.

    Jumping subjects:

Bringing my comment for LL over…

Welcome back and thank you for this post!

As I spoke about in a previous comment, I have a friend whose parents fled Castro’s Cuba and have a story very similar to that of your parents.

Back when they lived in Cuba, my friend’s parents, like yours, despised Batista and were originally supporters of change that Castro promised. After Batista was toppled and the revolution took over, they began to realize that what he promised and what was happening afterwards were very different.

Her dad had a little neighborhood grocery store – nothing fancy. One morning he went to open his store and the government had taken possession of it. Now, my friend’s dad was willing to cooperate for the good of the new government and the people, but they told him that he couldn’t even work at the store anymore! He was told he was just out of work. His wife was pregnant (with my friend) and so he went to visit his cousin in Mexico, hoping to work and earn enough money to bring his wife out so they could both make it to the US. While he was working to get her out, and even though she was pregnant with my friend at the time, Castro’s government forced her to work in the fields. She got out and they finally both made it here and were able to raise their daughter and live a nice life.

She told me that every time they see something about Bernie Sanders on TV they get so upset that they yell “Communism!” at their television so loud that the neighbors can hear. They, like your parents and many other immigrants have had experience with unicorn promises of “revolution” turning into ugly realities.

By the way, my friend told me she was very impressed by the President’s speech to the Cuban people.

        • March 29, 2016 at 2:50 pm

Mother of LL was furious with PBO when he began opening to Cuba. She’s come to acceptance that it’ll probably be for the best. That doesn’t mean she’ll forgive what went before. She won’t gloat for Fidel when he finally dies; neither will she light a candle for him at church.

“She won’t gloat for Fidel when he finally dies; neither will she light a candle for him at church.”

            I understand.

He may still be alive, but his time is past:

That was a better outcome today, but Kilns has sold his Newport Beach home, so I get the feeling he’s already had the door pointed out to him.

I have seen this man on MSNBC as a commentator many, many times.

An attorney helping Donald Trump’s embattled campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, fight a battery charge previously resigned from his Justice Department post after allegations surfaced that he bit a dancer at a south Florida strip club.

Kendall Coffey, who was the U.S. attorney in Miami from 1993 to 1996, resigned just one day after being called to Washington to meet with then-U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

The anti government GOPers that have no idea how they will live without the public purse – will be interesting to see them stay well away from the GOP nominee as they attempt to keep their place in the world of NO.

And on a completely different topic – how is your son doing today?

The whole family is perfect in every way. Don’t get me wrong NO ONE is PERFECT but they whole family has conducted themselves PERFECTLY the whole time while PBO & FLOTUS have been in the WH. NO Scandals except for the made-up ones by the haters.

        March 29, 2016 at 5:21 pm

Amen, amen. We have never had a First Family that has conducted themselves so perfectly during their tenure. JoJo and Alycee, I couldn’t be prouder of them. The only thing I worry about for the girls is the pressure they will be getting when they move away from home. What I know is that both Barack and Michelle have given them a very strong sense of who they are and a strength of soul that will sustain them thru almost anything. That is why they are so hated by the right. Nothing has worked against them. We have been blessed to be a witness to them these years.

      from the link

“Throughout the interview, Tapper made it clear he felt badly that he would have to ask questions likes these to a a colleague and expressed his support for her amid these attacks.”

This is your media – gossip mongers only – but they just have to ask the question. They should be talking to Cruz and Trump about policy but they do so like to blame the women for anything negative about the GOP.

      GE Nena and MTM.

We didn’t have ABC reception when I was growing up (before cable, depended on aerial for reception, and lived on the north side of a hill, San Diego ABC affiliate broadcast from Mexico) and shows I really wanted to see and very rarely saw were The Outer Limits, The Patty Duke and That Girl (Marlo Thomas) — was Beatles-crazy, loved all things Brit.

Patty had a huge influence on girls growing up in the 1960s, but pretty much unknown to those born later.

Sad to hear the news, rest in peace, Patty.

Arapaho, so sorry you missed those wonderful shows. Patty did have a huge influence on all of us a certain age. So loved that she had married Astin. But then so sad to hear about all her problems. The good thing was that people talked about mental illness and that it affected anyone.

So hard on us at this age, so many are gone.

It never really mattered to me if they legalized marijuana or not because the brother on the corner lighting up a joint was still going to get arrested at a higher rate than his white counterpart. If only we had a “crack summit” in the 80’s and 90’s, but no, we didn’t have a crack summit because nobody gave a fuck if a bunch African Americans were losing their souls, but let a few “white folk” get high on some shit and let the motherfucking summits commence. And now motherfuckers are going to get rich opening up weed dispensaries, and by motherfuckers I mean those kids that surf and ride skateboards, because let’s face it, ray-ray and Pookie won’t be allowed to open up a dispensary. Because whatever qualifications and requirements are needed they will be turned down for whatever reason. Am I pissed, fuck yes, for years we have been harassed and jailed for smoking a fucking joint, lives ruined and careers crashed all because of a joint. A joint, an arrest, and a record, rinse and repeat. So I’m glad that the President went to speak today at the summit, and maybe those people can get the help that they need. But damn, we lost an entire generation to crack, families are still trying to recover, grandparents raising kids instead of enjoying their golden years. Sometimes I try my best to have compassion for other people, I really and truly do, but my compassion is tested when I see how my brothers and sisters still have to fight just to get help. I remember one time after school some friends and I were hanging out talking. We were talking about what we were going to do once we graduated. My best friend and I got accepted to college so we knew where were going. But another friend said he was going in “the hole.” Which meant he was going to sell drugs, never mind that his mom was a drug addict and his father was never around. Just imagine you and yours friends talking in high school and one of them said in the future I’m going to sell that very thing that destroyed their family.
