    speaking of the devil dood

Pope Francis has condemned those who fail to help migrants, during his traditional Easter speech in Rome.

The Pope said migrants often met “rejection from those who could offer them welcome and assistance”.

He also condemned terrorism as “a blind and brutal violence” that should be fought with “weapons of love”.

I’m surprised that Bernie won Washington State. Seattle, please explain.

        March 27, 2016 at 9:54 am

I was surprised too ggail – so either Bernie is popular – or Caucus is a crazy way to select candidates. How many people have time to sit around as required at such events. And everyone knows who you are voting for. And folks run around demanding you listen to why you should vote for a or b or c.

What is the turnout – caucus cf primary?

If he starts winning closed primary elections, in states that do not have GOP voter supression – then yes – he is popular

I thought I was beginning to understand US elections – silly me!

Hillary has made a calculation that she won’t lay a finger on Sanders so she can better heal the party. She needs to better frame Sanders. WA depends on global trade. HRC should have made a better case (or any case) on Bernie’s myopic and archaic economic views. She needs to do that in WI, PA before be does all the framing. Course correction is necessary. The rabid BS supporters believe she’s the devil. We don’t give BS more room to convince others.

          March 27, 2016 at 10:48 am

57, I agree with your assessment. Hillary should have made a more concerted appearance in WA. Just because it’s a caucus doesn’t mean that there are not people in that State that needs to see and hear from a candidate. And if Dan Pfiefer’s tweet is correct, then it explains Hillary’s campaigns thinking about caucuses.

Happy Easter everyone. I’ve been averaging about 16 hours of sleep and 8 hours of some semblance of being awake. I’m wheezing less and have fewer feverish episodes, but am mostly groggy and sleepy.
This morning I read about a big scandal involving the leading Republican candidate for the Pa state house. Apparently she hosted an Easter egg hunt and did such a bad job the children went away crying. Outraged parents are now saying that if she can’t manage an Easter egg hunt, she’s unfit for state level office. I think our Democratic Candidate should run on her better egg hunt management skills. Makes as much sense as any other wacky thing happening this election year.

  13. March 27, 2016 at 9:33 am

Bernie Sanders netted nearly three dozen delegates after his win in Hawaii, having swept three states. It’s a solid showing, but it didn’t significantly tighten Hillary Clinton’s overall big lead.

Sanders needs to win 67 percent of the remaining delegates and uncommitted superdelegates through June to be able to clinch the Democratic nomination. So far he’s only winning 37 percent.

After my last – which showed zero issues – I told my Doc – not ever doing that again. Don’t even mention it. (And sitting in recovery area with half a dozen similar souls, one of the men (had to be a man) talked non stop about how it was so wonderful – it’s a wonder he walked out alive – given the thoughts of the rest of us)

      Take care of you. (((((dudettte)))))

Complete O/T, but just heard a report on @cbsradionews that made my head spin, about the Syrian refugee crisis in Greece.

The report said that the economy for the Greek Island of Lesbos depends heavily on tourism.

There are now more refugees on the island than the island’s pre-crisis population of 80,000.

Tourism is down 90% there and their unemployment rate was already at 25%.

Seems like a bleak year for the EU. 😦

    • March 27, 2016 at 11:21 am

Greece has been so badly screwed by Europe in every imaginable way, Arapaho, they were already on their knees and now this is happening to them. It was all very well for Merkel to issue an open invitation to refugees, but Greece is carrying the burden more than most. Horrendous.

Dear meta, thank you so much.

My son took the kids to his wife’s family in PA for Easter… and next week they are all going to the beach for spring vacation. The kids love it there. They are doing well, considering. They were already in counseling for the past two months and I think that has helped allow them to voice their thoughts and feelings during this awful time. They are 8 & 10 yrs old. My granddaughter who’s 10 has asked questions.. but also had a good understanding too, as her mom apparently had told her not long ago, about being in a “black hole”. My son just learned of this convo last week. So she shared more with the kids than was known.

It’s so hard to understand and yet it isn’t. She loved these kids so much.. she was off drugs – but only newly so, and she had even started back working for three days last week- in a job she loved (she was a nurse). She was going to get the kids for Easter and she would have had them for some of spring vacation. She had chosen – while still on drugs- to fight my son for full custody… he never wanted to take full custody.. he was always happy to have equal shared custody + he paid child support. But, she was upset when he married and then they (he and his wife) had a baby.. and she decided to take him to court. He tried to talk her out of it.. and in the end had to fight back. He won full custody two months ago.. mainly because of her mental health issues at the time- she was committed by her family to a hospital for a breakdown the day she was supposed to appear in court. Even after that, my son assured her and her family that once she was on her feet and got things together that they could go back to sharing the kids. And then she took her life last Sunday.

Sorry, still just trying to process it and understand her pain.

        • March 27, 2016 at 12:38 pm

I’m so glad you checked in with us. I’ve been wondering how all of you were doing. Oh my goodness, it’s a tragic situation in so many ways. Drug addiction is so destructive to families. May she rest in peace. So sad that the children have suffered in any way but it sounds like they are strong, resilient. I hope their memories over time are forgiving and they are allowed to heal. Many hugs to you, sherijr.

Thank you meta and hugs back to you. Especially I am grateful for your concern. The thing with the kids, is that we know that their will be grief at many different times in their lives over this.. so being able to cope and verbalize now will help them later too. Their step mom is a wonderful woman who has had a healthy loving relationship for about 3 yrs with them.. so that has helped along w/ my son. They have so many people from all sides of the family who love them and that too will help along with time. Again, thank you- Happy Easter and take care :).
