Facing increasingly insurmountable odds, Bernie Sanders’ chief strategist told Politico this morning that the campaign hopes to persuade superdelegates to override the results of the Democratic primaries and caucuses. For months, Sanders’ supporters denounced such a strategy as undemocratic.
Chuck Grassley Tweeted To Convince Iowans He’s Doing His Job. No One Bought It.
Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has received a lot of pressure at home since he threatened to obstruct any nominee made to the U.S. Supreme Court less than a day after Justice Scalia passed away.
Hello Lovely TOD Community.
Happy Jolly Wednesday.
Congrats to all the Gold ⭐ winners since last night.
TOD, Rocks!
Merrick Garland, Rocks as well. Moderate. Male. Solid Record. Of course, GOP will Do Nothing. Then comes after Nov16 election, PBO should appoint someone using every tool available to him, constitutionally to the #SCOTUS.
If you didn’t know President Obama is the POLITICAL CHESS MASTER of the 21st century and many centuries to come well now you do. i predict the GOP controlled Senate will confirm Chief Judge Garland in less than 30 days,
Probably some Partisan attempt to block a nominee that must have been reneged since if this did happen it would be unprecedented. I think PBO knew it would be used against them as he said he knew both parties have been guilty of trying to stall on nominees confirmations.
In the aftermath of Antonin Scalia’s death, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was quick to say that any nominee to fill the vacancy should wait until after the coming election.
The clips and quotes Republicans seized on, however, ignored a passage buried deep in the transcript where Biden called for a “compromise” pick, much as he’s done in the past week.
In 1992 Senator Joe Biden, then Chair of the Judicial Committee said that if President Reagan “consults and cooperates with the Senate… then his nominees may enjoy my support as did Justices Kennedy and Souter.” Reagan did. Sen Biden did.
And Alito (about whom many Dems had concerns) was confirmed.
Thus a GOP president’s SC nomination was confirmed in a presidential election year via a Dem majority.
You don’t have to hit HIM over the head with a baseball bat! Smart guy. Let’s see if he still says that when I call:) I was looking forward to pounding him, especially since he lied to me in his email response…or should I say, “played politics” with me….His last sentence gave away the truth. That the balance of the Court could change. My thought? Win a damn election.
A group of more than 350 legal scholars on Monday called upon senators to fulfill their constitutional obligation to consider a U.S. Supreme Court nominee submitted by President Barack Obama.
In a letter sent to Senate leaders, 356 professors and scholars said that leaving an eight-justice court in place would have dire consequences. They asserted that allowing Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat to remain unfilled until after the presidential election could cripple the court and set bad precedent.
“This preemptive abdication of duty is contrary to the process the framers envisioned in Article II, and threatens to diminish the integrity of our democratic institutions and the functioning of our constitutional government,” reads the letter, addressed to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky; Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada; Judiciary Committee chairman Charles Grassley, R-Iowa; and ranking Judiciary Committee member Patrick Leahy, D-Vermont.
Current GOP *leadership* always seem to choose such basically unwinnable fights where they are in opposition to everything rational, sensible, and for the good of the country.
Love Senator Al Franken, former comedian. I think I just heard him speak about the Senate’s need to vote for the SCOTUS nominee and the fact THIS President should have his nomination heard and Al added about the Prez’s remaining tenure, “Scientists tell us it’s for another 10 months.” 🙂
Well JO’B, CC made my day earlier with a great ‘honey pie’ reference so that spot was already filled for me , 😉 but I really do get a kick out of ‘subtle’ jokes.
I do my best not to waste my time with MSNBC, specially after what happen with Melissa H. Perry. Sometimes I watch Rachel, but Chris Hayes I don’t care for him never have.
Pain or not, last night was evident that the tone of her voice had lost a cachet. She spoke with the same eloquence and volubility but one couldn’t help notice the absence of a joy; in fact there was a sliver of deep pain, profound hurt, as if she was told that her child would not get the gold medal after all because his mispellled the last word in the spelling-bee contest.
I’ve never watched her so subdued, almost like she had awaken from the dire possibility that the Senator from Vermont didn’t have the broader appeal that she and her MSNBC comrades claimed he did. It could be that the fact she wore black added to the mirage, but she, definitely to me at least, looked like she was mourning the lost of an idol.
I hope she pulled herself through… for I admire her wit when she uses it against the wackos from GOPLand.
I thought he picked up steam in his maturity level after Ferguson and his coverage in other cities, but then he sometimes goes off the track. Hard to figure him out, day by day.
and can someone tell what is a progressive…who the hell are they….IMO they are purist ideologues …i would rather have someone like garland that a so-called progressive…
spoke to his staff, a gentleman named Nick……I told them that if Toomey could not fulfill his constitutional responsibility that perhaps he should resign…i told him that what separates America from other countries…who coup d’etat all the time is our respect and adherence to the Constitution…I told him that i was tired Toomey and the Sen Gopers telling PBO to kiss their backside…i also told him that whenever a rule in the constitution is bypassed that was a nail in the coffin of the constitution…he wanted to tell me the GOP line…but i was not having it…this is my 2nd call to the office…not many folks must be calling….because he said he remembered me….there are not enough angry people calling…

So now, Sanders is asking for the “establishment” help.
Hahahahahaha !
Bwahahahaha!
They are going to be insufferable for the rest of the month as BS scores in the “white” states.
I hope Hillary at least beats him to a draw in NM. Although I would have been thrilled with a whole bunch of draws last night, and look what happened.
Mr. 57 can’t stand Sanders anymore. My work is done. And I barely said anything, honest.

If you didn’t know President Obama is the POLITICAL CHESS MASTER of the 21st century and many centuries to come well now you do. i predict the GOP controlled Senate will confirm Chief Judge Garland in less than 30 days,
So what is this statement Biden apparently made years ago that legitimizes McConnell’s obstruction to SCOTUS nominees now?
Probably some Partisan attempt to block a nominee that must have been reneged since if this did happen it would be unprecedented. I think PBO knew it would be used against them as he said he knew both parties have been guilty of trying to stall on nominees confirmations.
