I will note that #jobsreport is now the number 2 trend on Twitter when it hasn’t trended this high (or at all) in many, many months.

There might not have been a super-empowered emergency manager at all in Flint if a 2012 referendum had been allowed to stand.

Any celebration was short-lived. A few weeks later, the legislature took up a bill to simply replace the repealed emergency manager law with a new, very similar one…And the legislature attached a small budget appropriation to the new law, which made it impervious to referendum.

…instead of fighting the referendum when it was before the voters, its opponents simply overruled it. Snyder, whose office did not respond to a request for comment, signed the replacement law on Dec. 27, 2012. Less than four months later, Flint’s emergency manager signed an agreement moving the city into the new water system. Three months after that, he settled on the Flint River as the interim source.

Cicely Tyson on House of Cards?

    Really?

    …………………

Who Is Doris Jones On ‘House of Cards’ Season 4? Cicely Tyson Will Go Toe-To-Toe With Claire Underwood

    KELLY SCHREMPH

Just when you think a show can’t possibly get anymore star power than it already has, you find out that the legendary Cicely Tyson has joined the cast of House of Cards Season 4. And while you’ve undoubtedly seen her praise-worthy acting talents throughout the years, this is absolutely going to be one role of hers you won’t want to miss. Why is that, you may ask? Because she’ll be going toe-to-toe with Claire Underwood herself. Portraying the part of Texas congresswoman Doris Jones, Tyson will give what’s sure to be a memorable performance while tackling from very real and poignant issues regarding race and class.

Everyone, this really is a HUGE breakthrough! Ladyhawke posted it on the previous thread.
I tweaked the headline to pull out an important fact that shows once again what an outstanding President we have in Barack Obama.
This is reason number 999,999 why elections matter.

The truce broadly holding in Syria will create momentum behind peace talks, major European powers say.

The leaders of Russia, Germany, France, Italy and the UK had a telephone conversation on Friday after which they agreed to use the “positive dynamic”, said the office of UK PM David Cameron.

EU countries asked Russia to exert influence over Syria’s government to respect the truce, Germany said.

Scattered attacks have not threatened the truce, which began last Saturday.

However, both the opposition and the government have accused each other of violating the cessation of hostilities agreement brokered by the US and Russia.

The truce does not include the jihadist groups Islamic State (IS) and al-Nusra Front.

UN special envoy Staffan de Mistura says he plans to reconvene talks aimed at ending the five-year conflict in Syria next Wednesday, with their format flexible to enable some parties to turn up days later.

During the Depression years, my Mom would see her Mother not eating much, so her husband and kids could eat (if my Grandfather was between jobs as a coal miner). My Mother swore she’d never let her kids see that, which we learned when we were adults. Now, my Mother was the queen of eating desserts and we always teased her about it, so I’m thinking she’d take a bit off your Dad’s piece of pie, too! #SorryNotSorry πŸ™‚

      I’m sorry I don’t believe this

“On the eve of her 22-point loss to Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire, Hillary Clinton had been fretting about her strategy, questioning her staffing choices and generally flash-backing on her 2008 defeat.”

Fretting over losing a state 15 minutes from her opponent’s front door? Nice try Politico.

There were reports that she was considering a staffing shake-up. You can factor in that Sanders was a lock on NH, the momentum concerns would have been real.
