Iran elections: Reformists make gains in Assembly of Experts.

Moderates and reformists have dealt another blow to Iran’s hardliners, winning all but one of the seats for Tehran in the Assembly of Experts.

President Hassan Rouhani and his allies won 15 out of the capital’s 16 seats on the clerical body, which may choose the country’s next supreme leader.

Two leading hardline clerics, assembly chairman Mohammad Yazdi and Mohammad-Taqi Mesbah-Yazdi, lost their seats.

The only hardliner to make the cut in Friday’s polls was Ahmad Jannati.

The vote for the 88-member Assembly of Experts was held on the same day as the country’s parliamentary elections, in which moderates and reformists won all 30 of Tehran’s seats.

Morning. This is a busy Monday for me with lots of meetings with Latinos colleagues to plan our outreach. I’m so hoping the nomination is wrapped up this month so the pressure is off PA in late April. The friend who worked so hard to get signatures so she could be on the ballot as a Hillary delegate got double the amount she needed. But since the delegates are proportioned by the percentage of the vote the candidate gets, her chances will be diminished if Bernie does well. Whoever came up with this delegate selection process must have been a disciple of Rube Goldberg.

hey Jackie….i called Toomey’s Philadelphia office this morning…i spoke to Nick…a pleasant gentleman re: the letter that Toomey signed re: filling the SCOTUS vacancy…he gave me the talking point that we should wait till the next election…Toomey’s term is also up in 2016…i asked him was Toomey taking that same position regarding his won job….

i told him that the letter was an act of arrogance and defiance…and that the constitution is clear…if he does not like the nominee…he can vote down…but to not participate in the process was shirking his responsibility and unacceptable…

i also sent an email…in which i outlined the path that Toomey should take….

i then left the info on my FB page…encouraging others to do the same….

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad says he is leaving the ruling party because it is “seen as supporting corruption”.

Mr Mahathir said he was “embarrassed” to be associated with the United Malays National Organisation (Umno) because of its support for current PM Najib Razak.

The former leader has been one of the fiercest critics of Mr Najib, who has been plagued by corruption allegations.

Mr Najib denies the allegations and has been officially cleared.

Mr Najib was accused of taking $681m (£479m) from a state investment fund into his personal bank account.

However, the attorney-general’s office cleared him in January, saying the money was a personal donation from the Saudi royal family.

Ready or not, the Republican circus gets a new clown
    02/29/16 08:40 AM
    By Steve Benen

One of the more compelling concerns among Republicans worried about Donald Trump has to do with maturity: the New York developer just doesn’t have the temperament of an American president. Whatever his talents, Trump’s skill set doesn’t include displaying dignity and grace.

It was a little unsettling, then, to see what’s become of Marco Rubio’s pitch on the eve of Super Tuesday. NBC News reported overnight:
In response to the property mogul calling him “little Rubio,” Rubio conceded that Trump was taller than him. However, the Florida senator suggested Trump had small hands for his height.

“And you know what they say about guys with small hands,” Rubio said with a smile, prompting stunned laughter from the crowd. After a brief pause he added: “You can’t trust ‘em!” The crowd responded with applause.
Congratulations, Republicans. We’ve reached the point in the race for the GOP nomination in which the establishment favorite appears to be telling jokes about the size of his rival’s penis.

I think the myth of the refined party of Lincoln, upstanding, values voters, church going, honest, self reliant, and classy is being blown apart. Then there stands President Obama the epitome of all of those things with the sense of humor, the compassion, the intellect, the work ethic and absolutely beautiful inside and out as a contrast to the GOP reality. President Obama possesses every good quality and it just makes you want to uplift those things among us as a national community. For every ounce of disrespect the President has been shown he has refused to return in kind. He has made jokes about the reactionary response and hatred with good humor, kind of like a late night comedian reading mean tweets they have gotten. He has taken the heat for all of us that want better things for our nation. Thanks, Obama.
