    While you were sleeping!!!!

“Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry entered the record books twice on Saturday night, breaking the NBA single-season mark for 3-pointers and tying the mark for most 3-pointers in a game in a 121-118 overtime victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Curry held the previous single-season record of 286, which he set last season, and now has the three highest single-season totals in NBA history. He has 288 3-pointers so far this season. “I never would have thought at this point in the season I would be closing in on 300 and all that kind of stuff,” he said. “That doesn’t make sense to me. I’ve always tried to push the envelope and keep getting better, but a lot has to go right to get to this point.”

Curry made 12 of his 16 3-point attempts against the Thunder, tying the mark for most 3s in a game held by Kobe Bryant and Donyell Marshall. Curry rolled his ankle at 10:29 in the third quarter and missed five minutes to have it retaped. After re-entering the game, he scored 31 of his 46 points in 18:18 of action, shooting 9-of-15 from the floor, including 8-of-11 from 3-point range. Curry is shooting 50 percent (11-of-22) on shots from 30 feet and beyond this season, easily the best percentage of any player with at least five attempts. His 11 makes from that distance are the most this season; no other player has more than two, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Curry also became the first player in NBA history to make at least 10 3-pointers in consecutive games. He made 10 of 15 attempts Thursday against the Orlando Magic. The Warriors are 53-5 after the victory and one game ahead of the Chicago Bulls’ 1995-96 pace toward a record 72 wins.”

      Amazeballs.

I don’t have cable and it wasn’t until late afternoon that I realized the game was on ABC. I almost missed it!!

I fell asleep on the game in the 3rd quarter so I’m happy to see that the Warriors pulled ahead to win!

When I saw that shoot last night, the first thought to come to my mind was “Dog” Curry is great. Then I thought I wonder if POTUS watch that game. It was a great game. I remember watching Curry play at Davidson and he was good then.

Not into spectator sports anymore (used to be big MLB and NFL fan, but basketball had limited appeal to me, though Marques Johnson at UCLA was a fav, and no one can beat what Tyus Edney did during 1995 March Madness), but Steph is beyond belief — he’s got such grace and control when making those 40-foot baskets, just incredible.

I’ll bet PBO was glue to his TV, enjoying ever minute of Steph’s performance.

Meta RT’d other tweets from NBA legends last night (King James, Magic Johnson), but this from one Millennial superstar to another is my fav:

Steph in 2016 is by far the greatest thing of the year — the routine mass shootings, KKK/GOP/MSM is just so depressing.

      • February 28, 2016 at 12:54 pm

i think that it is always difficult to compare stats from Different eras….

because the stat takes on new meaning depending on who the player is playing against…. Comparisons are being made between Steph and Bird…but you have to look who Bird played against…Jordan…Kareem…Magic….and then there was Rodman…the greatest rebounder…these players were all Hall of Famers…yet bird was able to accomplish his stats….

players should be look at in the era that they are in…

          GA PF58.

Agree that comparisons shouldn’t be made between different generations of athletic prowess, but it’s hard to deny Steph’s grace in making something difficult look so easy.

I think Marques Johnson played the same position as Steph (point guard), and he was poetry in motion on the court.

P.S. – I defer to anyone, anywhere for basketball analysis. Know very little about the game (except for the obvious — make a basket, don’t dribble, be a team player), but when Steph is on his game, he’s a joy to behold.

We watched the game last night. My husband and I were screaming and our dogs were going crazy because of our yelling. I have watched basketball all my life. I saw Chamberlain , Jerry West, Kareem, and many more, in person, but I have never seen the likes of Steph Curry. I am in awe of his talent. I know I have never seen a game like that one. I hope someday I can see him live too.

“Pentagram is pleased to announce that Paula Scher’s acclaimed map paintings will be presented in a new exhibition, Paula Scher: U.S.A., opening tonight at the Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery in New York. For this exhibition, Scher has created 10 new cartographic paintings and prints focusing on the United States. Each map views the country through a different set of data, such as population demographics, transportation flows, geography, and climate. In her paintings, Scher renders information and data culled from headlines, maps and diagrams in torrents of hand-drawn typography. Obsessive, opinionated and more than a little personal, the maps provide an exuberant portrait of contemporary information in all its complexity and subjectivity….

…In the new show, the works depict the U.S. swirling in patterns of information, layered with hand-painted boundary lines, place names and commentary. The paintings and prints have straightforward titles like “U.S. Area Codes and Time Zones,” “U.S. Driving Times and Mileage,” and “U.S. Geography and Climate,” but the information can in no way be interpreted as literal fact. In fact, some of it may be quite inaccurate—Scher calls her style “abstract-expressionist information”—and the paintings celebrate a personalized understanding of the diversity of the country. “It’s an election year, and I am fascinated by the ways different parts of the country think, and looking at demographics and geography in the U.S. and making connections,” Scher recently told Slate.”Can be viewed in person at the: Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery, The gallery is located at 505 West 24th Street, New York City, adjacent to the High Line. The show remains on view through March 26.

“Google-owned Waltham-based robot maker Boston Dynamics pulled the covers off its newest robot Tuesday night to reveal a better balancing, more athletic model of its two-legged Atlas robot. As is customary for Boston Dynamics, it posted a video on YouTube that demonstrated Atlas’s newest abilities, and suggested that warehouses could be the first place that the human-shaped robots could be put to work. The most human-like of the company’s creations yet, the robot is a serious upgrade from previous klutzy models, one of which fell over and broke an arm, and relied on wires for commands and power. But in the video, the “humanoid” ambled through the woods, tracked robot steps through snowy ground, stacked 10-pound cartons on shelves, and then showed itself out by pushing open a door and stepping into the daylight. When an engineer gave it a rough push with a wooden pole, the robot fell over. But then it got right back up. The Internet responded with a resounding gasp – 12 hours later, it was seen more than 2 million times. The reason everyone’s going bananas? No one’s yet seen a robot execute maneuver with such ease and nonchalance. It all looks stunningly normal….

All the more so because Atlas is notoriously clumsy. The limits of its humanoid locomotion were on painful public display last summer, when an earlier model of the Atlas robot competed in a contest hosted by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency – DARPA. Teams of some of the world’s best robotics engineers directed various models of humanoids to perform tasks akin to emergency response in dangerous or unstable environments. A handful of teams chose Atlas as their model. For two days the robots, including Atlas, stalled and stumbled their way through obstacle courses, sometimes dropping tools, sometimes keeling over onto the floor. By comparison, the new Atlas model’s abilities look almost Olympian….continued”

Swiss voters ‘reject’ plan to expel foreigners for minor crimes.

People in Switzerland are on course to reject a plan to automatically expel foreigners who commit minor crimes, early projections suggest.

The proposal has been put forward by the right-wing Swiss People’s Party.

The vote comes amid growing unease at rising immigration and the problems which, the party says, come with it.

But opponents said the law would create a two-tier justice system unfairly targeting foreigners, who make up around 25% of Switzerland’s population.

Almost two million foreign passport holders live permanently and legally in Switzerland, but as gaining Swiss nationality is a complicated and expensive procedure, and is not conferred automatically at birth, these foreign nationals include many who have never lived outside of Switzerland.

A projection by the gfs.bern polling institute suggested that 59% of voters said “No” to the proposal. The official result is expected later on Sunday.

“Twitter is Trump’s preferred social media platform for direct communication with his followers, haters, and—most importantly—the journalists who obsessively cover his carnival-like presidential campaign. It’s where Trump goes to personally insult his enemies and opponents, but it’s also where he seeks evidence of his greatness, and regularly retweets (in his idiosyncratic style, quoting entire tweets rather than using the network’s built-in retweet tool) praise for himself.”

I can remember Iran in the time of the Shah when women did not wear the hijab. I also remember the sadness when it all changed. Women gain their freedoms & then men try to take them away – but we forever carry on the fight for the right to own our bodies and our souls. It seems to be a never ending battle – and not only in Iran.
