as a young girl i remember listening to this album at my grandparent’s house…Ray Charles sings Country…Ray Charles was their favorite artist….i watched as they danced to this song…it was wonderful….i miss them
There is a story behind this song…Georgia on my Mind….when he left GA…because he refused to play in a segregated house…but when he returned…things were different…he played in an integrated venue..
PBO showed out tonight! It was almost more fun watchinghe and Michelle than it was watching the performance. He took the mike at the end to do the shout out part of the last song.
They were too funny fanning Michelle during the song “Night and Day.”
OMG, that was so much fun. PBO and MO have left their incredible mark on the White House. It will never be the same. Can’t believe how much I’ll miss this series. LOVED how much fun they had, not hold back. 4th quarter, baby!!
Never! In addition to everything else, it’s been such an incredible cultural appreciation experience all along the way: music, dance, poetry, architecture, fashion. Just WOW.
I really needed this beauty and uplift tonight. A dear friend’s husband died on the golf course. Same age as my husband and just a sweet, funny, wonderful guy. They had been together since junior high.
Thanks, Prettyfoot. This is shaking my sense of security. Can’t quite imagine how my friend must feel. Her kids and grandkids are all around her now, so that helps.
Shouting “You lie!” in a speech to a Joint Session of Congress,
* Refusing to accept the date for a speech about job creation to a Joint Session of Congress.
* Negotiating a speech to Congress from a foreign head of state behind the President’s back.
* Seeking to undermine U.S. negotiations with a foreign country by writing a letter to their head of state.
* Refusing to hold a hearing on the President’s proposed budget.
* Tossing the President’s proposal to shut down Guantanamo Bay Prison in the trash (and videotaping the process).
* Refusing to hold hearings on a Supreme Court nominee before the President has even named one.
That was a magnificent tribute to Ray Charles and My POTUS and FLOTUS are awesome for words. This is why after I HANDLE my business of putting another DEM in the White House, y’all can find me over at the Obama Presidential Center enjoying my President and his continued journey of change, innovation and prosperity.
People today may have short political memories, but for those of us who know and understand how government works, we are keenly aware that we may not see a President as revolutionary as Barack Obama is a long, long time. The true impact of his genuine, organic revolution won’t be felt for a generation or more. But that is how revolutions work. You cannot shout something from the rooftops and expect millions to join your cause and upend the system overnight. Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Cesar Chavez all knew that change takes time and that it is integral to plant those seeds and allow for them to grow. As King himself famously said, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” There might be candidates on both ends of the political spectrum who do not appreciate Barack Obama but for those of us who have studied him and have seen what he has overcome in today’s hostile political environment is nothing short for a miracle.
A miracle that will not be replicated any time soon.
It's All Been Done: How Barack Obama Already Achieved Bernie Sanders' Revolution https://t.co/vqcRoGij0J
It has been a dreadful performance by the press and by party leaders. They are speaking in such a way as to naturalize the creepy, weird and completely un-American positions Trump has taken.
This is how the dictators came to power in the 1920s and 1930s. Good people remained silent or acquiesced. People expressed hope that something good would come of it. Mussolini would wring the laziness out of Italy and make the trains run on time.
Caught just a few minutes of Rachel. Happened to be her interview with Michael Medved. He began by saying that he was against Trump before it was fashionable to do so. LOL. Anyway, to sum up: His theory is that Trump will NOT be the nominee……there will be a brokered convention. Interestingly enough, he didn’t mention which one of the others might or would end up with the nomination–or if he did, I was spaced out during that part. (Was texting with my ill daughter.) One of his main points is the down ticket and how concerned the Party is about those. hehehe! You built this, GOP. You built this house brick by brick. Now enjoy living in it.
None of Ted Cruz’s speeches seem normal. He takes a few extra seconds between each sentence, before starting another. Like he’s either repeating what he just said in his mind, or is previewing the next comment for himself. Or is that just what I’m hearing?
I swear these people are making us look like the crazy ones – Ha!
Thank you guys so much for all the great PBO and whitehouse items over the years. They surely broke the mold with this first family, but thanks to chips et al I feel like ive had a front row seat to history. Ive learned so much and cant wait to see what 4th qtr PBO brings us over the next year.
Hello

Gee, I think this is the most time I’ve spent here in a while. May have to make a habit of it again. Going to try to post a tweet again.
There is a story behind this song…Georgia on my Mind….when he left GA…because he refused to play in a segregated house…but when he returned…things were different…he played in an integrated venue..
Yep! Now ironically it’s the State song and one of Ray’s signature pieces!

Oooh, I missed her.
when you get a chance to watch the video again, she appears to be the one dressed in red, on the second row
Jussie Smollett doing I Gotta Woman, another of my faves.

Yes! Yes! Yes! I did see POTUS and FLOTUS fanning. OMG!!!!!!!!!! 🙂 🙂
I likes that Leon Bridges!
I thought of the Cosby Show when they sung that, little Rudy and Bill Cosby lip singing that song.
POTUS and FLOTUS even got Grandma Robinson laughing.

Hey, is that WH Social Secretary Deesha Dyer sitting next to POTUS?
Wow, Sam Moore! Way cool!

The last show with this POTUS and FLOTUS . 😦
PBO showed out tonight! It was almost more fun watchinghe and Michelle than it was watching the performance. He took the mike at the end to do the shout out part of the last song.

You think POTUS and FLOTUS might played that song later tonight up stairs.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!
every performer seems to want PBO to be an active participant during their music interlude => so gratifying.
I also treasure the love and respect shared by one and all …. cleans out the toxic mess from the ODS people
Cleans out the toxic mess from the ODS people
OMG, that was so much fun.

Just WOW.

Oh my goodness, Judith. What horrible news. I hope your friend has a good support network.
She does, but it’s still going to be wrenching. They were some of my first friends in OFA 2012.
I am so sorry to hear that Judith.
Thank you , Bella! Hard to wrap my brain around it.
very sorry to hear about your loss;
prayers of comfort for all of you and strength to your friend;
may he rest in peace
Appreciate it, Linda.

Thanks, Prettyfoot. This is shaking my sense of security. Can’t quite imagine how my friend must feel. Her kids and grandkids are all around her now, so that helps.

I could have watched this all night. 🙂 Really enjoyed it.
It was a BLAST. So glad we get to see the filming and all those candid moments.
Whether you like Hillary or Bernie, this seems to be a timely reminder!
I’m thinking that the Obama Presidential Library would be a great place to continue the Series
Great idea, GGail!
Please, please, please!!!!!!
I mean, are the Obamas fun or what? COOLEST people in the WH forevah.
meta, they are the best President and First Lady in the White House in a looooooooooong time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and as you know this is just a small list of things that have been unprecedented
writing to the Ayatollah’s to block Iran Deal;
pointing a bony finger in the face of PBO in front of a live camera
Seriously.
Like the one Prince played for the Obamas.
Yes!

Let the church say “Amen”! Tell it idon!!!
I had to say it 🙂 and an Amen right back at you.

Beautiful!
Wow, finally someone connects all the dots. Thank you, DD. A very good piece.

X 1000 or more
Grassley says he’ll meet with President Obama next week, on the SCOTUS nomination. Big of him. Ugh.
Like to be the proverbial fly on the wall. Will he tell him that because of black guy in white house they have thrown the constitution out the window.
Hope the President doesn’t lunch before seeing Grassley because he may lose it after that guy starts talking. Ugh.
