Morning Chips and TODers. Yesterday I had to deal with a lot of Berniebots at our monthly Progressive meeting. There are those who actually believe him to be a better orator than President Obama and have convinced themselves that he draws bigger crowds. I can only conclude that an epidemic of insanity has swept across the country consuming Republicans en masse and a large number of Democrats. To his worshipers, Bernie can get away with any lie, delusion and fantasy, but Hillary’s every word and action is given the strictest scrutiny. That she endures this every day while Bernie gets a pass on everything is a testimony to her strength and to the basic unfairness of the US voters and the media. Frankly, I’m sick to death of this double standard.

GM TOD and JG you nailed it with this one. I know how you feel. I’m getting it from two sides here in Maryland. We have those who support PBO but just want to see someone go further with policy. I can argue this point with them. And then we have those that are driven by #HillaryHate. Most don’t even like Sanders but the hate for Hillary is palpable and there is no arguing the hate and distrust that they have for her so I can only hope that once PBO starts campaigning for her (should she win) some of this hate will dissipate when considering the alternative.

Also, should Bernie win I see PBO doing more down ticket campaigning than Presidential campaigning. Bernie’s crowds generally are not all that impressed with PBO’s accomplishments and although there are PBO supporters among the Bernie crowds they think their guy is all they need to inspire their voters and draw the big guys.

        Hi Donna,

I think the Bernie crowd is even more negative about PBO than that.

I’m really pissed (sorry) at the way Bernie has used white privilege to hide behind black surrogates (Cornel West and Killer Mike) who are on record calling PBO a ‘niggerized’ president and ‘house negro’ so that ol’ Bern doesn’t have to convey the message himself.

IMO, the vast majority of Sanders supporters think PBO is a naive sellout failure who doesn’t deserve credit for any accomplishments, since they were all, to the purists’ minds, mired in weak compromise.

And Sanders cynically uses his black surrogates to siphon black support from Hillary and use Dem apparatus when it’s now useful to him to do so.

The irony of using West and Killer Mike, who perceive PBO as a house negro is rich…as they campaign for their white savior.

Life is funny. I was not at all enthused about “Ready for Hillary”, but along comes a campaign to make her look better by far.

We have grown in our ability to spot double standards through the course of the Obama presidency. Friendly fire is more apparent as well. To her credit, Hillary has kept her compass pointed in the right direction while many around her are losing their minds from all appearances. For my part I believe that President Obama has made his decision about the quality and character of the Democratic candidates and I think he has decided that Hillary Clinton is the right choice. I know who I’d trust to recommend someone.

My take on this is that people really don’t want to think very deeply and that since Reagan they think simple answers to complex problems are “leadership”. Berniebots all over the place here. My mantra is: we have to come together and support the eventual nominee so we can beat the ICK on the other ticket. Stop fighting with each other and focus how bad it would be for middle class and poor Americans to live under another Republican presidency. The Scalia fight puts an exclamation point on this!

Judith, I agree with what you said plus add the point that Bernie’s obsessive ranting about getting money out of politics and using Hillary’s donors against her has registered with many. My son and his wife are caucusing in Reno tomorrow for Bernie. I tried several times to point out Bernie’s faults and Hillary’s pluses and mainly emphasize the fact that I felt she would best protect PBO’s achievements. No take! So today I called him again saying I was sorry if I came off as trying to strong arm him to support Hillary. That my main reason was to preserve the current advancements and I intended to vote for whomever the Dem candidate was. He said that was his intent too. Half of my family is going for Bernie this time with the other half for Hillary. In 2008 and 2012 all ten of us voted for Barack.

Well I have to admit that Jeffrey Toobin has one thing going for him. He is consistently WRONG. He just said the Justice Kennedy was confirmed in 1987. ( it was 1988 ) The last year of the Reagan Admin. Did he possibly say in on purposed to deflect and sing the song of the GOP that no justices should be confirmed in the last year of a Presidency ?

Thought I share this here from a conversation with a co-worker and his niece’s experience with her teacher regarding Black History Month.

So, his sister’s daughter is in the sixth grade. He told us that the girl’s teacher told her class recently that she didn’t see any reason why she had to teach about Black History Month. Reason, she said, the black students couldn’t even name 5 prominent black people, etc.

Apparently some of the other students argued with the teacher. But his niece wrote down everything the teacher said, went home and told her mother. Co-worker said his mom, the girl’s grandmother was having none of it. When her daughter couldn’t cancel a previous engagement she called the school and asked for a parent/ teacher conference.

At the conference, teacher told the girl, she wished the girl had talked to her first. The principal then stepped and told the the teacher the girl did the right thing by going to an adult she trusts. Teacher apologized to the girl and told her she hope she could continue teaching her. Said she mumbled something about being from New York and did not mean any harm by her words.

I was impressed by the little girl’s presence of mind to take notes of what she was saying.

    Have a good day everyone.

    • February 19, 2016 at 9:35 am

If they couldn’t name five prominent black people, maybe that ” teacher” weren’t doing her job which is to teach. If they couldn’t name five prominent blacks isn’t that proof of why we still need to teach Black History? For so long history taught nothing about black people as if black people did nothing to help make this the country what it is. Bravo to that young girl.

      February 19, 2016 at 11:34 am

That was a very brave thing for a sixth grader to do – documenting this wrong and arming her family with the facts to confront it. Hope that teacher gets reprimanded.

SO let me get this straight. Beyonce’s Super Bowl presentation was controversial because she made a sharp statement asking that AA’s not be gunned down before these AA suspects ever had a day in court for their suspected crimes…and are continually gunned down like rabid dogs in the street. Tampa police that request and statement made went too far? These public servants did? Oh. That’s some privilege there….If I was her, Tampa would be off the roster.

      • 57 Sandy1110
        February 19, 2016 at 10:18 am

I’m beyond tired of these thin-skinned, union-protected jerks crying foul whenever someone points out the ugly truth about some in their ranks.

If they held the offenders to account rather than enabling them with a blue wall of protection around them no matter what, there wouldn’t be such a need to make such big statements.

But if they continue to act as if shooting unarmed black teens is just another day on the job, then the protests will and should continue.

I read a tweet last night from the Tampa police(?) that said the information was wrong. They have people to work the event. Don’t know if it was a verified account. for them or not.

    • February 19, 2016 at 10:19 am

If the police will not do their job, get some who will do their job. When did Beyonce say she was against police?.

NOT SURE ABOUT THIS…I THINK THE POLICE CHIEF PUT OUT A STATEMENT SAYING SOMEONE FALSIFIED AND YES THEY DID WORK IT! DIDN’T SEE ANYTHING IN THAT PERFORMANCE BUT WOULD HAVE LIKED IT TO BE MORE FAMILY ORIENTED BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THE SUPERBOWL ATTRACTS…BEYONCE IS AMAZING IN ANYTHING SHE DOES.

Oh, these whiny RW’ers. They’re really shaking in their boots.

Shorter Peggy Noonan: ‘Please don’t do your job, Mr. President. If you do, we’ll be forced to look like obstructionist asshats yet again!’

As if she gives a damn about ‘balance’. There’s no such thing on a 9-justice SCOTUS. The RWers are just freaked out that they could lose their 5-4 majority.

This is another reason they’re pushing Sanders so hard. He gives the GOP the better chance to win the WH.

    • February 19, 2016 at 10:15 am

Thank you Peggy Noonan for your advice, I’m sure the President will appreciate your advice he never asked for. The President said the other day he will will do his job and name a nominee, now let the Republicans do their job.

You know what else I think? It seems there are lots of people you can never please. People who see the glass half empty instead of half full. As PBO always says we have further to go, but then he states the improvements that have been made. I am sure he says that so he is not accused of being naive. I wonder if there is such a thing as perfect in some people’s vocabulary? I meet with a group of women once a week to do artwork. About half of them complain incessantly about everything and anything. The other half seems to enjoy life. It is like whether we see things positively or negatively. I do think this basic personality trait enters into the political scene as well.
