Happy V-day to you, Dr. Bob!

Loretta Lynch would be the most AWESOME appointment to the Supreme Court ever! (No disrespect to Justice Sotomayor, but IMHO AG Lynch has one of the most soothing voices on the planet.)

Still hoping for Brian Sandoval, just before NV GOP caucus on Feb 23 — let’s see Cruz and Rubio twist themselves into knots trying to appeal to NV (moderate) Republican caucus-goers.

Think that #NotoriousRGB may step down immediately following HRC inauguration as President, and hope that AG Lynch is nominated as her replacement — AG Lynch would then sail through Dem-controlled Senate confirmation process.

I know that a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush, but AG Lynch still has A LOT she will accomplish for the remainder of this year!

Bernie gave an earlier statement which was extremely weak, never mentioning President Obama by name. He referred to him as the “Democratic President.” In this statement though, he says something so inappropriate that I cannot understand why he keeps repeating it. He says if he were President he would only appoint SCOTUS judges who would agree to overturn Citizens United. What potential jurist to the highest court would even make such a declaration during a confirmation hearing? Bernie has a bachelor’s degree in political science. He does not have a law degree, which I believe matters when a president’s oath of office includes upholding the Constitution, the LEGAL framework of our representative democracy.

In contrast, Hillary Clinton’s excellent statement was grounded in her legal training and understanding of the Constitution. Her statement was presidential.

      • February 14, 2016 at 3:14 pm

Well stated. Of course a nominee can’t commit ahead of time to any judicial decision. They would be considered disqualified. One can only infer from their judicial principles how they might decide. That statement by Bernie was simply playing to the BernieBots.

Yes. And if you did not take that High School gov’t class or didn’t take it seriously if you did, then BernieBots believe this is possible. This is the same reason Fox can tell lies and viewers believe them. Lack of knowledge and as a result inability to evaluate the veracity of information.

He loved Tosca Restaurant here in DC. I saw him there on two occasions. I glared at him from across the room. He was not a very shall I say healthy person. He was as wide as he was tall. I only say this because when I saw him I thought to myself this man’s heart will not take him eating that rich food consistently. The maitre d told me that he eats there often.

      My condolences to his family.

Has the CBC, which couldn’t wait to rush to a tv to endorse Hillary, put out a statement about the GOP telling the President of the United States that he doesn’t have the right to nominate someone to fill a vacancy on the Supreme Court?

“Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is reinforcing the Republican political agenda to disrupt governmental functions…Posted by Congressional Black Caucus on Saturday, February 13, 2016

        February 14, 2016 at 2:39 pm

I’m not sure if everyone will be able to read the Facebook post.

“Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is reinforcing the Republican political agenda to disrupt governmental functions when the circumstances do not line up with their philosophy. It is imperative that we have nine members of the United States Supreme Court deciding constitutional issues that are important to the American people. It is absurd to suggest that President Obama should be denied the opportunity to nominate a qualified jurist to replace Justice Scalia on the Supreme Court. The American people should clearly understand that Senate Republicans have a political agenda to pack the Court with conservative justices who would reverse years of progressive jurisprudence.

“The Congressional Black Caucus urges President Obama to expeditiously nominate a replacement for Justice Scalia who has the Scholarship, values and temperament to sit on the highest court of our country and decide cases based on established law rather than a political agenda. We will vigorously confront Senate Republicans at every turn should they dismiss President Obama’s nomination.” –

They can play politics but they shouldn’t play politics. It’s all about politics when it comes to Republicans — in or out of Senate.

I am sure with all the coverage which has been done on Scalia´s death and GOP idiocy concerning PBO´s coming nominations this has been said already but…if it weren´t for the fact that leaving this seat vacant for that long, here is the scenario which I, personally, would find the most gratifying, schadenfreude-wise

Senate stalls nominations being immature like that
GOP looses presidency and senate over this and other things
new democratic POTUS nominates new Justce…one with a degree and experience in practicing constitutional law. I´d have a suggestion there.
    😀
