You know what would be awesome at this point? Another conservative justice bites the dust (I’ll take conservative black supreme court justices for $400 Alex). Then we would have a 4/3 majority and McConnell would be forced to act.

    ///

and it becomes a 6/3 majority in one stroke. win-win either way. πŸ˜€

Last night after word broke that Justice Scalia had passed away I started to think about President Obama. What drove him to the study of Law, and more specifically what drove him to study Constitutional Law. It is one thing to want to be a Prosecutor or a Defense Attorney, but what drives a person to want to study Constitutional Law, and then want to teach it for ten years, and then interrupting that by becoming President of the United States of America. Sometimes I wish I could read his mind just to be able to understand his thought process.

    • February 14, 2016 at 10:41 am

I think he’s a perfect blend of being endlessly interested in the origins of our nation and wanting to fight for justice and equality on a grand scale. He’s a very deep thinker and a very big dreamer. Cannot WAIT to read his memoirs. OMG.

I cannot wait either, the autobiography of Malcolm X had a profound effect on me and the works of James Baldwin as well. I’m sure his memoirs will hold a place in my heart as well.

        • February 14, 2016 at 10:54 am

I read Autobio of Malcolm X a couple years after it came out and it blew my mind.

Same here. When I came to this country, I was young and I knew ZERO about the struggles of Black America, although Liberia was founded by freed slaves from the U.S. I Was fortunate to attend Southern University in Baton Rouge. Opened my mind to King, X, Langston Hughes, Frederick Douglass, Dubois, Baldwin. It was one of the most pivotal times for me. Learning all that stuff.

But, it really came in handy for the first black President of the United States of America to have a firm grasp of the Constitution.

When I read Audacity of Hope and Dreams of my Father or was it from (?) my Father I realized Barack Obama’s trajectory in his career all started in his days of community organizing. His desire to help the people he was working with involved arming them with knowledge and involving them in the process of helping themselves (the teacher in him coming out). He was led into being a legislator then going to law school, state and national politics all by seeing these positions gave him a better chance of helping more people. Thus this President was led to the position from a purer motive than those wanting power and prestige. I think his long game viewpoint has allowed him to stay on task despite great opposition. Others might judge it was not worthy of the tarnishing of their reputation to keep at it.

The people had their say when they elected President Obama twice. Someone need to remind Mitchell McConnell of that fact.

      • February 14, 2016 at 12:14 pm

2012 we re-elected Barack Obama, that was the people say so.

They are stuck with their entitled sense that he is not legitimate. That means everyone that voted for him is not legitimate by the way. Their privilege is showing. I suppose he is three fifths of a president and that’s why he doesn’t get to appoint someone. Scalia would probably say that the president was able to skate on his qualifications because he is AA and so therefore isn’t up to the task. Wasn’t that his theory. The AA peter principle by Scalia. Shoudn’t be elevated above one’s station because that will result in failure. Guess that’s why no matter the enormous success of this president it has to be described as a failure. Sanders supporters, are you listening?

On the is Valentine’s Day in lieu of flowers and chocolates and a poem, I’m thinking about not falling asleep on the couch with a half empty can of beer teetering on the edge of my stomach, but spending time with my wife over a lovely dinner instead.

There’s a small plaque near the reception desk at my doctor’s office which I daresay few visitors even notice. It reads: “Everyone brings joy to this office – some when they enter, some when they leave. I do wish more of our public servants strove to be more like the former than the latter.

He couldn’t get shit done while he was in Vermont, in the twenty-five years in Washington he got two post offices names changed. And he walks around with a perpetual scowl, I wouldn’t give him a penny either.

Happy Valentines Day to all you lovely people who have saved my sanity more times than you will ever know.

    Love is

Your partner is out snowblowing the driveway in 14 degree BELOW zero weather while you sit inside with a box of tissues
and a bottle of wine trying to drown a cold and celebrate the end of scalia.

Adore and treasure each and everyone here.
Now I need to go back up top and catch up with what I missed.
