Doing well! At a Death Penalty Conference with my husband. Needless to say Scalia is not missed. He argued that factual innocence is not enough to prevent an execution of an innocent man. He also held up an inmate as a example of those who should be executed for heinous crimes: exonerated this year!
not liking what i’m seeing so far with paul watford’s record. some crazy republicans have been praising him for his “judicial restraint” which is code for satisfying republican/big business interests. i don’t trust watford.
no fan of hillary, but that’s a perfect statement. none of this “he had a brilliant legal mind” idiocy i’m seeing from so many others. scalia was a moron and just bullied anyone who pointed out how nonsensical his arguments often were.
Help, WP won’t stop sending me emailed comments, even though I have not opted too. I’ve logged in and out but still happening. Any clue as to why?
Thanks!
wanna bet the rethug kkklowns today will claim vote for me, I will stop obama from nominating a librul to the court and the stupid flock will give them a standing ovation?
even that they are clearly twisting to fit their wants. 2nd amendment is about militias and that meant what we now call national guard, as it is clearly defined earlier in the constitution. so basically republicans are anti-constitutional in almost every possible way.
The Second Amedment embraced by the obsessed right wing gun advocates has very little to do with the Second Amedment. The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution is all about the rights of states to have “well regulated militias” to ensure the security of the state.
I just answered him back. ” We did speak, we voted President Obama twice. The people spoke, he does his job and you should do yours now.” Close to that anyway.
Great tweet, Jazziz2! Mitch McConnell must be reminded that President Obama is still the President of the United States. The Constitution obligates him to nominate a person to the U.S. Supreme Court to fill the vacancy created by the death of a current Justice. The Constitution also obligates members of the United States Senate, including the majority leaders, to approve, or reject the President’s nominee. The Constitution does NOT, however, allow the Senate majority leader to tell a sitting President not to nominate any one to the U.S. Supreme Court vacancy created by the death of a beloved right wing Justice who was more interested in advancing right wing ideology than he was about advancing JUSTICE.
By letting the American people have a choice in the selection, McConnell of course means that he will do everythign possible to ensure that the people have no choice at all, on this or any other decision of any importance.
According to the names being floated (2 Indians Katyal, Srinivasan….3 AAs A.G. Lynch, DHS Johnson, Holder, and I wouldn’t rule out Kamala Harris (considering her Senate bid is not going as smoothly as everyone thought) this is a very diverse and hugely qualified pool to choose from.
She is blowing all the money she raised on private jets, 5* hotels, and more stupid stuff like she is entitled…while acting like she has already won the seat. It is not a forgone conclusion and people smell blood in the water. Remember Karl Rove spent millions just to try to defeat her in her A.G. race too!
I am not so sure! HRCwill probably avoid pissing-off the GOP in her first term. After President Obama, no one is more hated by the GOP than AG Eric Holder.
I just saw the best tweet. I am on my iPad and don’t know how to post it but it was from Al Giordano. He said the last time the Pope was on this continent Boehner resigned. This time the Pope is in Mexico this happened. Interesting thought.
Oh, chips, that’s the perfect photo to go with Lindsay Graham’s comment. When I read it, I thought, “weren’t we all waiting to hear what Graham had to say. Now we can all sleep peacefully.” I’m sure Lindsay was the first person PBO was going to call for advice.
This is the kind of wonderfully atypical Civil Rights-era story that gets me excited!
Last fall, it was announced that author Margot Lee Shetterly’s book, “Hidden Figures,” which hasn’t actually been published yet (but will be this year via HarperCollins), was been optioned for Ted Melfi to direct (he’s the director of 2014’s acclaimed dramedy “St. Vincent,” which starred Bill Murray, Melissa McCarthy, and Naomi Watts. Terrence Howard played a supporting role in the film, which was Melfi’s feature directorial debut).
Shetterly’s “Hidden Figures” tells the untold true story of the African American women mathematicians – Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson, Dorothy Vaughan, Kathryn Peddrew, Sue Wilder, Eunice Smith and Barbara Holley – who worked at NASA during the Civil Rights era. The book tells their story through the personal accounts of 4 specific women that then-NASA staffers referred to as “the colored computers.” Shetterly, whose father was one of the first African American engineers employed by NASA, is a journalist.
We have all been deeply upset by the way in which Republicans and far lefters have treated our President these past seven years. I have thought about this a lot, and have been deeply upset with all of you. What desertflower said above about the GOP being very transparent, illustrates what has been happening. PBO’s election, as we know, released something ugly in the American society. It had been rumbling beneath the surface for years, but finally came to the top. It is as if we lanced a boil on the body politic. In order to heal, boils have to be lanced. That is not a pretty sight, but I still accept what Judge Brandeis said as truth: “Sunlight is the best disinfectant.” All this HAD to come to the surface for cleansing and cleaning to occur. I am regretful that our wonderful PBO had to be the object, but I believe he had a better idea about what would happen than we did. We were delirious with joy, and didn’t take the long view, which he always has, which is why he has been able to remain calm and steady. Like people here, he is in my prayers every day, for protection and strength. I am reminded sometimes of his Biblical namesake, Barak, who was a wise judge. So is our Barack a wise man. He will treat this situation with his usual grace and wisdom.
Agreed, carolyn…though I must admit, I thought you said that you were mad at all of us and I was confused:) I read it again and understand now…will be “interesting” to see how these people twist themselves into knots trying to defend why a sitting President should not have an appointment made to the SC from a vacancy that happened on his watch….and the very early obstruction of Mitch McConnell to having no vote for a new appointee….I hope that vile excuse for a man gets his keester handed to him. Karma will pay a visit.
I hope so DF, but knowing the way the so called mainstream media operates, most Americans will probably end up siding with the GOP after being told by the media that the President should not be appointing a successor to Scalia during an election year.
It’s a hoot, there’s just never a dull moment. There we were thinking this would be just another Saturday when Manchester United lose, and nothing else would happen.
Well, I love human names for dogs, but Adam was ridiculous and he doesn’t remotely look like an Ali. So, when I saw what he did to my roast chicken it was either: a right ‘Charlie’, or ‘Wanker’. I thought Charlie was better.
I actually considered Wanker for quite some time today, but when I’ve walked him he’s had the habit of straying, and I just didn’t want to be howling “COME BACK WANKER, LOVE YA LOTS, COOCHIE COO” as I passed sedate dog walkers on my amble.
Scary how good she is/has become at it! The devil in me said I should ask her ‘Where’s the pic?’ but then I remember her mank… and decided not to tempt the gods. Plus she seems via her visuals to be in a ….. *funny*-lack-of-sleep mood.
Listen carefully. I am much more interested in what the GOP say now…they can’t contain themselves….PBO is always wise and thoughtful. Does the right thing. Listen carefully, America. Let’s see how you like them now
OMG, JO’B, Trump hasn’t the foggiest idea how SS operates and he probably never met a Social Security recipient in his life. But now he’s created the mythology of evil 106 year-olds collecting benefits from the grave. And hordes of equally ignorant people will believe him.
Remember that story about how Trump tried to have eminent domain used against the senior homeowner in NYC, which he denies? This Social Security thing sounds like something else slum landlords talk about, over dinner.
JOBoomr, seriously I don’t know whether to laugh or cry! The fact that Trump is a leading contender to be the GOP’s Presidential nominee is indisputable evidence of how low the GOP has sunk.
McConnell please read the Constitution where it says the President with the Senates agreement chooses the SC appointments. It does not say to wait for the election of the next President or put it on the ballot for the people to decide.
Thanks LP for sharing HRC statement in Denver. I was initially not very enthused about Hillary Clinton, but I am now all in with her. She clearly understands the Constitutional responsibilities of Presidents and Senators.

I recorded the GOP debate and am watching it now. As much as I hate Donald Trump I am glad he is there as at least he is setting the record straight about GW not keeping us safe and not going after Osama Bin Laden to a house full of boos. That audience will not believe what is true. Media catering to one side, not correcting untruths, and allowing talking points, as well as asking candidates to repeat what the Constitution says instead of just reading it has dumbed down the electorate.
Gracious as always
As always! I have tremendous respect for this man.
Hi Taiping. How are you?
Doing well! At a Death Penalty Conference with my husband. Needless to say Scalia is not missed. He argued that factual innocence is not enough to prevent an execution of an innocent man. He also held up an inmate as a example of those who should be executed for heinous crimes: exonerated this year!
wait, what?!? i missed that. wow, what a vile man he was!
Good!
I can only imagine the reminiscences Scalia’s death will unleash. At least , he won’t lack for mourners.
Hope he quickly appoints someone exceptional.
I’M WATCHING…PLEASE SAY PRAYERS FOR MY SICK TUMMY TODAY…I HAVE TO GET TO CHURCH TOMORROW…FIRE IT UP MR. PRESIDENT!
Just said a prayer for you, Sue – feel better!

An honest and concise statement of fact by HRC.
We know how Republicans work, it’s okay for them to dishonor the Constitution.
Pitch perfect, Hillary.
Perfect & truthful – sympathy to the family
AM GOING TO GO AND WATCH HIM ON CNN…MY 7UP IS CALLING…GOD BLESS OUR PRESIDENT…HE’S GONNA’ PUT A CRACK IN MT. RUSHMORE! BLESS YOU ALL.!

I have nothing positive to say.
So…..I’ll keep quiet, as my mother taught me.
I’ve been working on that for a while, myself! Mum’s the word.
As a friend of mine said, “My mother always said if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything so I’ll just say-it’s nice he’s dead.”
Almost answered a slightly different way, but still working on not saying “stuff” that I’d like to say! 🙂
I am with you, rikyrah!
Was he early? If so, where can I see it?
Still waiting for him.
even that they are clearly twisting to fit their wants. 2nd amendment is about militias and that meant what we now call national guard, as it is clearly defined earlier in the constitution. so basically republicans are anti-constitutional in almost every possible way.
Ti be fair, they do sometimes have a moment for the Tenth Amendment, which they abbreviate in much the same manner as they do the Second.
The Second Amedment embraced by the obsessed right wing gun advocates has very little to do with the Second Amedment. The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution is all about the rights of states to have “well regulated militias” to ensure the security of the state.

PBO is now speaking!
Wow, I remember Katyal as lead counsel in Hamdan v. Rumsfeld
It’s really exciting to imagine such a diverse and modern court. WOOT!!
I’ve been out of the loop re: CA Senate race, what’s happening to Kamala Harris and who’s getting the attention?
She is blowing all the money she raised on private jets, 5* hotels, and more stupid stuff like she is entitled…while acting like she has already won the seat. It is not a forgone conclusion and people smell blood in the water. Remember Karl Rove spent millions just to try to defeat her in her A.G. race too!
That’s really too bad 😦
I think President HRC will nominate AG Eric Holder. So I think he’s covered.
I am not so sure! HRCwill probably avoid pissing-off the GOP in her first term. After President Obama, no one is more hated by the GOP than AG Eric Holder.
Short and pertinent! Thank you, Mr. President.
Eloquent statement from Pres Obama. Puts down the hammer on McConnell “Do your job!”
Unfortunately, McConnell’s job is to undermine the U.S. Government as much as humanly possible.
SOme interesting thoughts….

there you go.

Couldn’t have said it better:
I have to say it: for the sake of the planet, there is KARMA.
So pleased there is a positive side to Scalia.
there is always a positive side to the death of evil.

So excited about this movie. this is my kind of movie. can’t wait.
OMG – I’m such a nerd, I’m going to LOVE this film!
Think about this…for the first time ever since PBO’s election anyway, the GOP is being very transparent.. maybe America will FINALLY pay attention!!
YES. I’m hoping it will backfire on them, big time.
We ALL are! 🙂

I remember the night OBL was killed. I kept saying, “Somebody go and wake up Chips! Somebody!”
I SEE YOU!!!!!
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Pay no attention, Chipsticks! I was on the West Coast of the U.S and I was asleep when Bin Laden was killed
Shhhhh. 😉 ;)Maybe this time we have ‘Adam’ to thank that she wasn’t sleeping .
Don’t even joke about it – Adam (who is now Charlie) does not believe in sleep!1!
You and I can keep each other company through the night then ….. as long as we can synchronize our wake-up times. 😀 😀
Adam (who is now Charlie)
as if the feller is not confused enough already / smh
Well, I love human names for dogs, but Adam was ridiculous and he doesn’t remotely look like an Ali. So, when I saw what he did to my roast chicken it was either: a right ‘Charlie’, or ‘Wanker’. I thought Charlie was better.

Jeb fans boo Trump. Trump says they’re Jeb’s special interests and lobbyists. Jeb fans boo him again a couple times. I’m almost rooting for Jeb!
Trump’s getting booed all over the place, at this debate.

Thanks Mrs O’Boomer. You are the brave one 🙂
It’s so laughable, it’s almost bearable tonight. The audience is taking on Trump. Trump’s not taking it well. *clink*

Live blogging the Republican shitfest
http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/live/2016/feb/13/cbs-republican-debate-south-carolina-live-coverage-antonin-scalia-donald-trump-ted-cruz
Trump is now claiming ownership of illegal immigration as a topic. “If I didn’t bring it up, we wouldn’t even be talking about it.”
Then he turns the Eye of Sauron on to Jeb. “The weakest person on this stage is Jeb Bush.”
“It’s weak to disparage women. It’s weak to denigrate the disabled,” Bush hits back.
Trump: “two days ago he said he would take his pants off and moon everybody.” Unconfirmed.
shitfest

Thanks for bringing this statement forward, lp.
My pleasure….I think she hit the nail on the head, Lynn.
Thanks LP for sharing HRC statement in Denver. I was initially not very enthused about Hillary Clinton, but I am now all in with her. She clearly understands the Constitutional responsibilities of Presidents and Senators.
