Chips! That youtube you posted this morning about the guys from the Iran/Iraq war was so moving! I’m going to bring it to this thread, if you don’t mind.
Chips posted this in Early Morning Chat and I didn’t get to read it until later.
If you guys have a chance, you should definitely give it a watch.
Here is my comment from the earlier thread and the YouTube that Chips posted:

Oh Chips, this was so moving!
I was curious what happened to the girlfriend and son, so I Googled for more info and found this detailed article about the two men’s story. It’s even more amazing than in the documentary film:
Oh MadameSoph, I’m drained after reading that, I thought the video was beyond belief, but it only touched on their stories. I completely missed in the video that Najah was held as a POW for 17 years, and that Saddam ordered the execution of all returning POWs. Good gawd. And then the story about Mina …. no words.
I know, the story about Mina got to me too, and also how Zahed had actually attempted suicide and been found and that’s how he ended up at the center where he met Najah! It was just an amazing story.
I’ve honestly never read anything like it, they are incredible men to be battling on in life after everything they endured, that they found each other and are now like brothers is mind-blowing. Thanks a million for the link, speechless.
Exactly, Hopefruit! The same was true of 1992 and 2000. Both New Hampshire and Iowa are not predictors of which candidate, in both political parties, will end up as the presidential nominees. Most importantly, winning Iowa or New Hampshire is no guarantee for winning the presidency.
He was so amazing that night ~ such class and heart. Never ever will there be another like him. I so hope for my grandkids generation, there is someone who loves and cares and inspires the best in us, the way he does.
Exactly, 99ts! Something is terribly wrong with us Americans! We have such short-term memories. Bill Clinton lost NH in 1992, but he was eventually elected President. George W. Bush lost the NH GOP primary to McCain in 2000, and he too became President. And, finally, Brack Obama lost the 2008 New Hampshire Democratic primary, but he was elected President. He also, in 2008, won NH in the general election. I hope the Bernies are not prematurely celebrating having won the nomination.
It gives them momentum and hope which is what people want – but surely they know they cannot win a general & I can see no point in supporting a candidate who cannot win. I think the dems (and the US) will have some ghastly times in the future if the GOP wins the Presidency – minorities and women will think the past 8 years were a breeze.
Thanks for all these memories tonight, meta. After I saw one of your tweets, I went straight to this song. Only the song title fits, but still reminds me of ’08. And it’s Bruce!
PBO SAYS IT IS A PRIVILEGE TO SERVE AS PRESIDENT…I SAY..WE HAVE BEEN BLESSED! THIS COUNTRY HAS NOT DESERVED HIS INTEGRITY…SHAME ON THIS COUNTRY FOR THE WAY THIS PRESIDENT HAS BEEN TREATED!!!!! THANK YOU META FOR SUCH AMAZING MEMORIES….I’M PRETENDING HE’S NOT LEAVING!
When President Obama’s Grandmother died, I felt so sad for him, sent a card to HI to address found, wrote note to the whole family, President Obama and his sister’s, months later received a hand written note from Maya Soetoro-Ng thanking me for kind words. She must be as wonderful as her brother.
Oh, wow, Anna. What a wonderful gesture on your part and a response in kind. I met Maya in the very early days when she held a small gathering here in SF. She is indeed the most lovely person – very warm, smart, funny and sweet. What a keepsake for you!!
I am so depressed by the Supreme Court’s decision to stay PBO’s orders on climate change. We need Hillary to win so we can get those 2-3 liberal justices on the Court and stop them doing so much harm to our country.
So, Donna, did this guy just pull these numbers our of a hat? I could pull any percentages out of the air and be as right as he is. What complete and utter BS.
Lets hope Hillary Clinton learned to play the long game. By the way, in 1992 and 2008, both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, respectively, did not win the New Hampshire Democratic primary; but they both were elected President.
Maybe we can convince the Republicans to change the rules and let him run again. They’d have four more years to obstruct, four more years of ACA votes, four more years of not actually having to come up with a plan for governing, just criticizing the black guy.
PBO HAS ALREADY SAID HE DOESN’T WANT TO…AND OF COURSE FLOTUS DOESN’T WANT HIM TO..FRANKLY…WHY GO 4 MORE YEARS OF ABUSE…???? THAT’S WHAT IT HAS BEEN. I FEEL GUILTY BECAUSE I HELPED TO GET HIM THERE AND OH MY…ALL OF THE TRASH HE HAS HAD TO PUT UP WITH…………..HE DESERVES A LIFE. HE HAS GIVEN US ALL OF HIMSELF AND INDEED..HE IS THE GREATEST PRESIDENT TO EVER GRACE THE STEPS OF THE WH!….RIGHT NOW I AM SO DISGUSTED…SO THE WORD ‘BALDERDASH’ IS MORE APPROPRIATE AT FAMILY HOUR!
Exactly, Donna! It’s time for the real Democrats to wake up! We must not allow Bernie Sanders to hand the presidency to Donald Trump! Because I was still angry at the Clinton Campaign in 2008, with its dog-whistle racism, I had planned on doing very little to support Hillary. The recent revelations about the Sanders’ campaign, which is focused on running against President Obama’s policies, woke me up. I am now going to devote more effort in supporting Hillary Clinton.
Amazing! So now the “purity progressives” are aligned with the NRA members? I am sorry, but I am not terribly impressed with the Sander’s “Revolutionaries.” After VP Joe Biden decided not to run, I was a strong supporter of Gov. O’Malley. But now that he is out of the race, I will be supporting Hillary Clinton. I just don’t think that the libertarian Ron Paul supporters, who are now supporting Bernie, should be allowed to chose a presidential nominee of the Democratic Party.
Never thought I’d become a Hillary supporter – but Sanders sure has turned me around.
On a very different topic – Is it even possible for an old white woman to learn to braid hair. Best I can do for the grandbabe is plaits – but I would love to braid.
I have to vent. I am so sick of all these people disrespecting PBO. I know the primaries have just started, but these Bernie people are sending me over the edge.
New Hampshire: population 1.327 million. 93% white; Asian and Latino 2 %; all other ethnic groups 1% or less. Not exactly a microcosm of the US, so let’s move on, very little to see here.
Yeah, I heard when they heard their hotel had a heated pool, the family thought they’d swim a lap before Bernie started speaking at 9 p.m. ET, as well. I’m lying, of course.
Census Finds Least Diverse Part of Nation. According to the Census Bureau, Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire all have mostly white populations — in fact, at least 96 percent of the population of each state is white.
Census Finds Least Diverse Part of Nation – ABC News
I think Kasich is the closest to moderate the Republicans have running. I think he would actually give Hillary a tough run due to his civil manner. I am not saying I want him to win as he supports the GOP ideology.
I’m thinking Hillary changed some of her talking points … she’s refined her message. She’s a little more humble, a little more “like us.” Hope that continues.
Hillary is smart enough to have learned from 2008. As you and I both know, tough women learn how to adapt and grow and work steadily toward a goal. PBO said that Hillary is brilliant and a very hard worker and we both know he’s rooting for her. Slowly and steadily she will win this race. And when the time comes, PBO will be her staunchest and most tireless supporter in the field.
Just read about the voting holdups – somehow the US has to sort out its voting – that people have to queue for hours and are then caught in traffic jams trying to get to the poll is 3rd world voting big time. Our governments at all levels actually fund elections – no volunteers, well paid poll clerks.
Never thought this would happen in NH.
In the regular elections we are paid. I attended my Election Judge training today and will be attending training for being Poll Place Manager. We get paid for training and for work. Have been doing it for several years.
Poll watchers are from the political parties and they are volunteers. The workers are paid I think in all the states. Maybe someone from another state can answer.
When the Bernie Fantasy is over, President Obama won’t have any choice but work very hard to rally the “dreamers” who are supporting Bernie. President Obama will have to reeducate them about how hard it is to bring change. Hillary has many qualities but she struggles to inspire like the President. He’ll have to help her in the general election. A lot.
Without a doubt!!!
Tally!
😀 😀 😀
So…… a friend of mine has a pile of money on Leicester for the season. O.o
Chips! That youtube you posted this morning about the guys from the Iran/Iraq war was so moving! I’m going to bring it to this thread, if you don’t mind.
It’s just an extraordinary story MadameSoph, it would make a stunning movie!
Yes!
Congrats, Tally!
Definitely. Hi Tally.
Hi Jackie!
No doubt! Congrats, Tally!
Thanks Judith! 😀
GA/GE TODville.
Can this possibly be true???
Interesting bit of trivia:
I am already getting palpitations because of a presidency without PBO but he deserves the rest and so much more.
//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Hmm. Let’s try that again…
Oh, pf, what a phenomenal memory. Even in defeat, President Obama is such a balm to our soul.
yessssssssssssss….
It is not just about what I can do..it also about what you can do as citizens who love their country can do to change it…Barack Obama
I will never hear that speech without tears welling in my eyes and a heart swelling with pride that we elected and re-elected President Obama.
Ah, you see, POTUS had thought to be humble in ANY case………
Congrats Tally 🙂
YUP, NW!!
Also ….
Right on Judith…

You watch some of these manual counts of the votes in some of the NH precincts, and can’t help but think to yourself:
Please – no hanging chads!
So while the media are braying their asses off about the “winners” or “losers” in tonight’s caucus…
Because he’s a Republican and they want Sanders to win.

Same guy who won NH in 2000 – how did that work out
Exactly, 99ts! Something is terribly wrong with us Americans! We have such short-term memories. Bill Clinton lost NH in 1992, but he was eventually elected President. George W. Another great memory:

Love you, JO’B!
Love you back, dahling!
GET A ROOM!1!1!1!
Ha! The BOARDROOM! (Or, in my case, since it’s NOT 2008, the BORED ROOM. Trying to stay interested.)
LOLz!!
😆 ‘GET A BORED ROOM’ does not have the same ring about it!
No, you are right, big time! Ignore that! 🙂

This is what Bernie’s supporters think of President Obama’s policies.
So, Donna, did this guy just pull these numbers our of a hat? I could pull any percentages out of the air and be as right as he is. What complete and utter BS.
and they’ve followed up with this ridiculous tweet. https://twitter.com/mmurraypolitics/status/697229661038899200
Taking a deep breath
very nice– and exactly right.

Maryl1, I bet, especially considering their Primary prospects, that more than a few in Congress would secretly approve of your idea.
Concur – seriously!!!!
I do, as well!

GE DonnaDem.
Can’t stand upchuck, but there’s this…
And this…
I cannot see how they can be mostly Independent Gun Owners AND Very Liberal. Doesn’t compute.
Trump/Republican voters masquerading as Independents IMO
My thoughts too, Donna.

They forgot – “White —————99%”

And the award for the most quirky random comment of the night……
“is it even possible for an old white woman to learn to braid hair”
😆
grandbabes bring out the quirky – and I note that pf gave a useful reply.
The politics are seriously not worth discussing – cannot believe that the media (including ours) treats the GOP pretenders as possible US President.
check out youtube….there are some very good tutorials
Thanks pf – they have to be seriously basic – I’ll look them up.
Here’s a simple one for a French braid. You could follow the steps and use smaller sections of hair instead of the entire head.
THEY AREN’T SNEAKING NOW..IT’S ON MY FB……………….
I have to vent. I am so sick of all these people disrespecting PBO. I know the primaries have just started, but these Bernie people are sending me over the edge.
I’m voting for Hillary and it is thanks to Bernie supporters.
For all of us Obama folks, Bernie is a non starter.
Thought I’d likely not have any other worthwhile advice for her, but then pf58 posted the video and ….
Yes WE Can …. let’s HOPE that HRC gets the WE, finally …..
good night TOD ….
NH is whiter then Iowa, but we will see about South Carolina, Nevada, and the other states.
New Hampshire: population 1.327 million. 93% white; Asian and Latino 2 %; all other ethnic groups 1% or less. Not exactly a microcosm of the US, so let’s move on, very little to see here.
This!!!!!
HAVE A BLESSED NIGHT EVERYONE..I’M GOING TO GO AND THROW UP NOW!
I’m sorry, but this made me laugh out loud:
Yeah, I heard when they heard their hotel had a heated pool, the family thought they’d swim a lap before Bernie started speaking at 9 p.m. ET, as well. I’m lying, of course.
Of course! {{{{goes in search of wine}}}}

Savor it Bern. Won’t last long.
MSNBC says Kasich won the #2 slot on the R side in NH. #Yawn
From now on, media will promote Kasich ad nauseam. He’s the GOP best hope in the general in my opinion.
That’s what I was thinking. I don’t think he could beat our nominee, but we have to fight hard as though he might.
I think Kasich is the closest to moderate the Republicans have running. I think he would actually give Hillary a tough run due to his civil manner. I am not saying I want him to win as he supports the GOP ideology.
I purposefully will allow you to look at Reince’s embedded tweet yourself – or not. Ugh. #Loser
GE TODville.
I have to admit I literally LOL’d at Chris Hayes.
In fact I’m laughing while typing.
Bernie *Sandwich*???
Best video of this campaign season so far…
Here’s Hillary. Her campaign said earlier “it’s just one contest.” Let’s hear what she says!
Yup, he sure would!
Hillary just sent me an email and now I know why.

thanks marilyn – I had always heard that many of the poll workers are volunteers – does it depend on the state?
Poll watchers are from the political parties and they are volunteers. The workers are paid I think in all the states. Maybe someone from another state can answer.
Then I definitely got that wrong – thanks again
Yes poll workers are paid. My brother went through the training and worked the polls for two election cycles.
The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away. Ha!
New post.
