🙂
G’d evening Nerdy, Chips and TOD!! 🙂 Thanks Nerdy for this excellent recap of our President & FLOTUS’ day!
Anyone planning to watch the NH Dem debate beginning at 9PM? I will follow on Twitter. 🙂
🙂
GE TODville.
To answer HF2, I’m planning to watch Dem debate online — think it’s the first that is taking place during the week (not on Saturday night or Sunday night of a 3-day weekend).
Haven’t seen Rachel since I gave up cable/TV in 2014, am looking forward to her as debate moderator.
This tweet was sent a week ago, but just now saw it — captures Cruz to a tee, LOL.
This is just too perfect. Thanks Arapaho.
Ted “Liar” Cruz
Republicans probably are dreaming about Mitt Romney.
Fred Clark is a blogger on religion that I read regularly, a great liberal Christian. There is one evangelical preacher that he really can’t stand and every single time he refers to this man it is as The Liar Tony Perkins. Always caps. I think we should apply this to Cruz and from now on refer to him always as The Liar Ted Cruz.
Don’t know the context for this outburst…
Also this (don’t know if this is true or not):
You don’t want to know the reason – he was praising John sununu (sp) for knowing about foreign policy in the ME. Ahhhhhhhhhh
Nice to see enthusiastic faces in the audience.
Don’t know if I bear an hour or more of upChuck’s face though.
Rachel seems really hyped-up.
true.
LOL.
How come you didn’t harass Chocolate Moose about his/her ‘#complement’? Why do you only discriminate against me?
twitterese gets lotsa esscuses. you don’t.

You okay?
#onlywatchpbo and since he’s not in it, neither am I
Watching the debate. I’m not fully on either one of their “sides,” yet, although I’ll vote for one of them, of course.
Just to spice it up, I’d like Bernie to turn to Hillary and say, quietly, “Jane, you miserable slut.” Like in the old SNL days. And then Hillary could make a similarly rash comment back to him.
Juice it up, progressive radical socialistic moderate center-left middle-of-the-road Democrats!
QQ…touches J’OB head ..to see if she has a fever…
Ha ha. It’s just a “moment in time.”
😀
:D. easy on the wine there.
Of course. 🙂
The inter-web would go off the chain. 🙂
Oh Lord I pray. 🙂
For Rachel Maddow, the thought of Bernie Sanders’ candidacy making it all the way to the Democratic National Convention in July is “hard to imagine.”
“Bernie Sanders is running this fascinating campaign where he’s all about people being angry and dissatisfied and frustrated. He wants you to be disaffected and frustrated about an economic system that keeps you from ever ascending the ladder,” the debate co-moderator told Playboy in an interview published Thursday ahead of the MSNBC telecast.
While remarking upon Sanders’ success in tapping into people’s emotions as “cathartic” and popular, she cautioned that his “sort of economic populism is a tough sell.”
“The diagnosis is right; the cure isn’t easy,” she said. “My prediction for Bernie: populist hero forever but hard to imagine him still being there at the convention.”

I know kennedy’s, bushes are not kennedy’s.
From the article:
Obama rebuilt this nation, under the most difficult of political situations, with unprecedented obstruction. Hope and Change happened. His legacies are remarkable. They should be celebrated. He is loved by his contemporaries and supporters and envied by his opponents for his likability, charisma, finesse and ability to do what he sets out to. The GOP tried to take him down. They made it their goal, vowing to do everything to stop him from being reelected. They disrespected him and tried to undermine his authority.
They failed. He soared. He is the definition of a leader. He will be missed.
Thank you Mr. President.
Thank you, Pf. This is beautifully stated.
yes…it is nice to read a story like this that is unapologetic in their praise of the President..
propane jane-level rant here from al giordano. front page possibility i’d say…
https://storify.com/DemFromCT/al-giordano-on-being-someone-else-s-idea-of-a-prog
4more, I love Giordano’s line, “What they call “Progressive,’ I call liberal, minus the civil rights.” When anyone DEMANDS a purity test, they are violating our civil rights. This, as Giordano says, is authoritarianism. And as Hillary Clinton said to Bernie, “who made you the arbiter of what it means to be a Progressive.?”
Good for her! He’s certainly not hiding his contempt for Democrats any more, it seems.
This was epic, 4more! I too call them “armchair activists”
My fave:
MadameSoph, if you’re around, thank you so much for the links. Left you a message at yesterday’s post: “the president’s history making day”. Hugs!
GE Gazelle.
Haven’t read the article yet (watching Dem debate now), but the tweet hits the right note — Bernie, like Elizabeth Warren, is a single issue candidate — Wall Street fraudsters still on the street, not behind bars.
But swayable voters seem inclined to vote for either Trump or Sanders (the angry white guy!):
GE Arapaho415, thank you so much. Going to read it. I’m determined to make everyone around my sphere exercise critical thinking! 🙂 I’ve decided that’s my fight. It worked in 2008! Yay! Wear them down with critical thinking, I say! I so appreciate all your help, I’m so overloaded at work & it’s impossible for me to keep up with everything, but so grateful to TOD and my family here. xox
From the article:
“Mickey Hirten, the former editor of the Burlington Free Press, who basically agrees with Sanders on the issues, recently wrote of him that he is ideologically inflexible: ‘The rigid, uncompromising ideology of the Orwellian-named Republican Freedom Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives has helped paralyze government. Its members won’t even compromise with the more pragmatic members of the party, preferring no loaf rather than a half. … Add a president as unyielding as Sanders to the political mix and we may look back at the current Congress as the good times.’
Which calls to mind PBO reminding us not to “make the perfect the enemy of the good.”
All-or-nothing inflexibility doesn’t lead to progress, it leads to stalemate.
Thanks arapaho, just got a “Hillary! Wall Street!” email from someone, so I will share this. Very well-written piece.
In case you can’t get back there to that post, here’s also a note I attached to those emails & FB post:
“On a more serious note, I’m sending out a plea to all who can vote in US, please take the time to do some research, critical thinking, and add pragmatism into our lives. The Utopia promised is sugar left out in the rain. It washes quickly down the gutters. Best way to get facts is to look at these candidates’ public records, and then make an informed decision. Don’t vote for a person because “he’s the dude I’d like to have a beer with”. You weren’t invited for libations last time, and were never going to be invited thereafter. It was never about you, except your vote. Exercise that right to vote coupled with informed decisions. The Country is not just about you, but all who reside and strive to make it a better nation.
Peace & love!”
Hi Gazelle,
Yes, I just got home and went back to that post (was actually answering VC on another comment and saw your note). So glad they were helpful. I thanked you for the “That’s the Way of the World” YouTube you posted on the other thread 🙂
I saw a twitter essay the other night about people who “didn’t pay attention to politics until Bernie” by this guy Ben Moser (don’t know much about him beyond this). I’ll post it below.
Awww, I heard about Maurice White on my way home from work, and felt I’d lost a family member, even though I’ve never met him or any member of EW&F. They were a large, uplifting part of my earlier years, gave us joyous sounds, & shaking a leg, of course! 🙂
I’ll look out for the Moser article & read it. Hugs!
This is the thing I don’t like about Bernie. He doesn’t own his hypocrisy. It’s gross.
LOL @your apt animations.
🙂
Love, the animations! You’re amazing, Nerdy.
🙂
Picture picture 😎
Thank you so much NW
🙂
I am not watching the debate. I’ll vote for anyone of the Democratic nominee because the other side is scary and dangerous.
From the essay:
As has been pointed out here numerous times, progressive doesn’t mean anything without progress. To make progress, holding rallies on college campuses and yelling about income inequality are not enough. It takes hard work, the ability to identify common goals with people who are not ideologically co-aligned, and critically, the willingness and ability to compromise. Just harping on purity and rejecting some progress because it in your opinion is not enough progress can make you an ideologue, a debater, a critic, and even an advocate, but it cannot make you a progressive.
Really enjoyed this PF and the comments section below the article were on fire: full of interesting, substantive and also just plain entertaining contributions.
A WOMAN’S WEEK AT THE GYM
This is dedicated to everyone who ever attempted to get into a regular workout routine.
Dear Diary,
For my birthday this year, I purchased a week of personal training at the local health club. Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.
I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Christo, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear.
Friends seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started!
The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.
________________________________
MONDAY:
Started my day at 6:00 am. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Christo waiting for me. He is something of a Greek god– with blond hair, dancing eyes, and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!!
Christo gave me a tour and showed me the machines.. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which he conducted his aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring!
Christo was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, although my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time he was around.
This is going to be a FANTASTIC week!!
________________________________
TUESDAY:
I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Christo made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air then he put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. His rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT! It’s a whole new life for me.
_______________________________
WEDNESDAY:
The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn’t try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot.
Christo was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members. His voice is a little too perky for that early in the morning and when he scolds, he gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying.
My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Christo put me on the stair monster. Why the hell would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Christo told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. He said some other shit too.
_______________________________
THURSDAY:
Asshole was waiting for me with his vampire-like teeth exposed as his thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn’t help being a half an hour late–it took me that long to tie my shoes.
He took me to work out with dumbbells. When he was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. He sent some skinny bitch to find me.
Then, as punishment, he put me on the rowing machine– which I sank.

FRIDAY:
I hate that bastard Christo more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anemic, anorexic, little aerobic instructor. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat him with it.
Christo wanted me to work on my triceps. I don’t have any triceps! And if you don’t want dents in the floor, don’t hand me the damn barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich.
The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn’t it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?
________________________________
SATURDAY:
Satan left a message on my answering machine in his grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing his voice made me want to smash the machine with my planner; however, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of The Weather Channel.

SUNDAY:
I’m having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my husband will choose a gift for me that is fun– like a root canal or a hysterectomy. I still say if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!!
I am crying😂

That’s the questions for all the ‘Obama disappointed me’ emos, and all the ‘he’s divisive’ bigots and all the ‘NRA will primary me’ cowards on the left.
good one.
And Rachel is looking a Chuckie like she can’t believe what’s coming outta his mouth.-smh
Thank you, Nerdy! I can now listen and look at the events the President had today.
🙂
So HRC is “hyper-aggressive”? I’m really trying not to call “blatant misogyny” and “double standard” here but WTF?
somebody needs to do a lip-synch using her face, her words, and Marilyn Monroe’s breathy voice.
That’s the meme for black women. I’m guessing this helps HRC although that probably wasn’t the intent.
Help….I’m in the Mod-squad prison.
Ha! Poor Yardarm.
You have been released, sir.
TY
Here is the Twitter piece I was talking about. There are about 40 tweets in it. This is the first. If you click on it you will go to the whole thing, then just keep clicking “show more” (hope this works):
Inorite?
I swear I had no idea until tonight that Hillary supports capital punishment. Where have I been hiding? Just never heard that before.
Ah, well that’s disappointing, but not surprising – she probably doesn’t want to look “soft”. That will have to be eliminated state by state anyway, until the next census comes (and hopefully folks show up to vote) so we can get a Congress that will eliminate it nationwide.
PBO said he supported Capital Punishment in some instances when running in 2008. Hillary’s answer sounded similar to his at that time. It was also in his book The Audacity of Hope.
i support CP in some circumstances.
GE JO’B.
This is a looong article, but haven’t seen/heard much here in SoCal, where the crime occurred.
It is hard to believe that this might happen in progressive CA:
This is just one of the many reasons I’m not in favor of the death penalty. Yes, I know in my heart that if somebody killed a precious member of my family, I might feel differently … but I’d rather not go with an eye for an eye. Too many “mistakes” made (many due to racism) and you can’t change the consequences when the party is later found innocent after being executed. We’ve got to do better than that as human beings with hearts and minds.
I doubt it would make a difference if it was a family member who was a victim of crime. In the heat of the moment one might well wish the killer dead, but if you are against the death penalty, you are 100% against it. The death penalty is some form of “legalised murder” – yet murder is a crime regardless of who does it – trying to make it legal is so very wrong.
That the so called “pro life” people are also usually supporters of the death penalty says all that needs to be said about contradictions. You cannot be pro life and condone murder by government.
So does President Obama. Both qualify thei support by calling for highest standards in defense. PBO appointed Eric H9lder as Attorney General who was very sparing in charging death penalty cases. But both, I think, did not want this to be an issue over which they could be attacked by RW
This thread is so fun, but I need to shower and eat something so I will just leave with this suggestion for my fellow TODers who have been watching the debate: those of you who drink can take a shot of your favorite adult beverage whenever you hear the word “Establishment!” 🙂
And he didn’t just work on them, he saw them through. Economy is back, auto industry is back, and I and others finally have affordable healthcare (ok, now I really have to go 🙂 )
Someone earlier thought Earth, Wind & Fire performed at the WH, maybe this is the show, but it was at the National Building Museum for the 33rd Annual Christmas in Washington, POTUS & FLOTUS were there, here’s a tid-bit:
They played at the WH in 2009 for the dinner hosted for the National Governors Association.
New Post.
