GE from down under – we’ve been hearing all about Iowa in my world. One report related to how popular is Rand Paul! – I hadn’t noticed that.

Congrats on first jackie – and a very close 2nd desertflower.

Perfect. At a certain point tonight, Iowa will be in the rear view mirror of rapidly escaping cars and buses and no one will give it a second thought for four more years.

I don’t want our FLOTUS to ever leave the White House. No one will ever be more loving, beautiful, innovative and passionate about making the world a better place for all of us. I’m betting that the White House staff will be weeping when she leaves and it will feel as if the place is bleaker without her.

david axelrod feels that when the opposite party tries to oust the incumbent president… They always become the antithesis of that person.
In this instance, axelrod believes that republicans voters are clinging to trump bc he’s the opposite of Obama.
Big tough guy with bravado and says thing not very well thought out etc.
If you think about it, Me axelrod is correct…
He also points out -how his cabdidate, the senator Obama, did the same to bush.

    • February 1, 2016 at 8:39 am

First of all, the party is not trying to oust PBO – he’s serving his 2 terms and will leave when it ends. Secondly, by the end of GW Bush’s term, his approval ratings were in the toilet, unlike Obama’s. GWB was not only a domestic failure, he was viewed by the international community as a failure and laughing stock.

The only reason the GOP has embraced Trump is that he appeals to the lowest common denominator. He is NOT tough. He is not big. Trump appeals to racism, misogyny, xenophobia in the Republican base, and that’s the ONLY way they can get their voters excited.

      • February 1, 2016 at 8:50 am

Tell David axelrod on cnn? Lol
Also how is Davis Gregory on cnn now? Lol lmao

Axelrod on cnn will say whtever CNN wants him to say, which is some meaningless “both sides” drivel. I’m not beholden to CNN for a gratuity or paycheck so I can speak the darn truth, which I’m doing right now.

Well everybody in America has a different POV and a different perception based on the life’s challenges.
I’m just trying to understand why people are so pissed off from my POV.
I haven’t worked since 2003 so I’m out of touch with the working class.
But I do have real rices and friends and I ask lots of questions.
Plus, everybody thinks that they are the ones who are correct and that the opinion they posit is the correct one.
            America the beautiful!

Indeed jovie. It’s always good to get people’s perspectives. But we cannot always assume that people are being honest with themselves and with you about their reasons for their anger.

    • February 1, 2016 at 9:36 am

I disagree with Axelrod, because when Senator Obama talk about then President Bush he didn’t make up lies about Bush. The Republicans that is all they do. Trump is the opposite of Barack Obama in the way that only matter to Trump supporters, Trump is white and he is a racists like they are. And about the anger, what the hell have they got to be so angry about try living as a black person, a black man, it has always amazed me how the white man has a right to be angry the black man doesn’t, he should be thankful. Last time I look unemployment is still much higher for black community, and I have not mention the safety part. Blacks have to fear criminals and the polices.

Also many of you on this site always ask the question…? What is the country so angry about?
And this is the question I keep asking myself?
I keep asking myself the same question all the time.
As near as I can tell… The white uneducated Male, who is working 40 hours a week and barely making ends meat… Are pissed off… Always has been.
But 9/11, the 08 recession, spending trillions on the Iraq war, and Katrina, really hit Americans hard.
And so the republicans are taking advantage of things they caused and have successfully blamed Obama.
The swift boating is very real and I’m not saying it’s going to work. But it has 2 out if 4 elections so far.
This is the rubber match…. So to speak.😏

The “white uneducated male” that you speak of is not “pissed off” because he’ working 40 hrs week and barely making ends meet.

He’s pissed off because he feels that his privilege as a white male is being eroded because (as he has been told by FOX NEWS and other RW media outlets) that the Black President has been on a mission to destroy the white race, to take their guns, to allow Muslims to rule, to let illegal immigrants freely into the country, to allow women to kill babies before they’re born, to let the blahs do whatever they want, etc…

      • February 1, 2016 at 8:51 am

        Well everybody has an opinion.
        Good morning.

This is what the Limbaughs and the rest of the toxic RW screeching heads have been pushing and have been ever since the Nixon ‘Southern Strategy’ was carried on by the likes of Lee Atwater.

They’ve got Joe Sixpack convinced that Muslim Obama hates “their” country and is giving “their” money to lazy (black) welfare recipients. And they WANT to believe it, despite the fact that any thinking person knows that the decisions to outsource jobs are made in boardrooms or by senior managers. And we all know what color dominates there.

And never mind explaining to these idiots that there is a larger NUMBER of white welfare recipients than black recipients. They then argue that whites on welfare only need it while they’re trying to find work. Blacks are just there to collect the money so they don’t have to.

        Conscious ignorance.

Living in a state that leads the nation in adult film rentals, a Utah Republican lawmaker has proposed a bill that would declare pornography a “public health crisis,” and a national epidemic.

    what is porn?

Watched a current affairs show on TV this evening – something I rarely do – happened on this one accidentally but it was so good that I stayed. There was an amount of discussion about racism and white privilege – and although related to Australia Day, it was obvious that the current level of both in the US has also brought this discussion to the forefront.

There was also discussion of why young men hurt themselves and others when out late drinking on weekends. One of the participants was a long time emergency centre doctor. He spoke of the trauma, the devastation for those hurt & their families & then added “at least, unlike the US, we don’t have to cope with people being shot”. This was followed by sustained applause. There are many trying to reduce the strength of our gun laws. Fortunately with zero success.

we vote in such an archaic way in this country…because voting is the domain of the state…there can be 50 different ways to vote…this should be regulated by the feds…our system needs to be modernize and brought into the 21 century…we can bank electronically..yet we still have caucuses…paper…old machines…etc…

The President had a commission that when around the country a few years ago to talk about voting …etc…and then there is the Brennan report that writes quite a bit about voter suppression and access to the ballot…

i have not heard anything about the President’s task force…but access to the ballot will only get harder…

So do the GOP people only vote once Meta? I read somewhere that the votes for anyone who gets less than 15% go to the front runner. Is that right?

It’s weird to those of us who don’t have primary elections. Our candidates are chosen by party members – or (I think) the state executive for state wide positions (senators). We don’t have any country wide positions.

      • February 1, 2016 at 9:39 am

Yes, the GOP only vote once. It’s the Dems who go through all that viability threshold stuff.

      • February 1, 2016 at 9:41 am

If your candidate doesn’t meet the 15% threshold, then the other candidates vy for your vote. You can also try to persuade those in other camps to join you to bring your number up to 15% and make your candidate viable.
